These are great, and I am so thankful to you for posting all these videos, they have been invaluable to me. There is one thing that I think should be added to these add ons, and this one is actually a safety issue for the 850 series. Along with replacing the window sprayers, you should definitely replace the drivers side wiper arm. I don't know if you have experienced this issue, but over time the wiper, for some reason develops a "dead spot" directly in the drivers field of vision, where the wiper does not wipe away water from the windshield. Replacing the wiper arm with one from any s70 or v70 will fix this issue. Thank you again, and keep up the good work!
Just snagged a bunch of goodies from Pick and Pull today for my 1997 850 R! I hope your nationwide tour is going great man!!!! Always love your tutorial videos!! You've taught me so much!!
Love, love, love your videos!!! Car repairs have always intimidated me, and your videos have inspired me to try tackling some repairs I need on my 97 850R... dash mounts, ABS/TRAC light, some of the improvements in this video, odometer gear, and many others. THANK YOU so very much for sharing your knowledge with everyone! By the way, I want to share information with you about a moldable silicone product called Sugru (it's online) that is temperature-, pressure-, and weather-resistant, and it self-cures in 24 hours. I can imagine so many possibilities with this stuff for my own projects, and thought you could see its potential as well. When my order comes in, I'm planning on making a new handle for my oil dip stick and using it to make repairs to the dash trim around the alarm light. I know I sound like an advertisement for this stuff, but I wanted to give back to you in some way. Again, thank you for all the great advice and the videos!
Very helpful Volvo videos! I own several 1998 to 2000 Volvos and a few Volvo parts cars and do all the maintenance myself with your help. You can't beat the purchase price of a few hundred dollars for a great riding, handling and comfortable car. From a 77 year old junk yard dog with Volsheimers.
Drivers side foglight assembly and bulb repair is my next project after i install the new heater core and firewall coupling coupler valve which should arrive this Friday! ^_^ Another awesome video man!
Greetings from England! I drive a Volvo V40 at the moment & have enjoyed driving & working on it. Petrol is expensive here so I'm on the lookout for a V70 2.4 D5 diesel. I have heard nothing but good things about these cars, but I already know that Volvo's rule!
One other item I was able to add to my stock '95 850 Wagon was the rear speakers that I pulled off a V70. They were the one's on the rear pillar, next to the tailgate window. It's pre-wired, so it was just a plug and play. Now I have better sound.
After waiting almost seven years, UA-cam finally decides to suggest this video, four days after I learned about and ordered the adjustable intermittent wiper relay. Although it seems I now need to find out if V70 sprayers fit a 940.
Thanks Robert, great, informal DIY, I like your style. My 855R has much already included, but thanks to you will be getting the V70 shields, washer nozzles, wiper delay & trip computer. I also did the V70 tails, & have a mint set of 850 tails stored. Cool goatie BTW, - same as the one I have worn since 2000!
Richard Gregory If you are going to do the trip computer, you can actually swap the cluster out for the 1998 x70 cluster with the trip features. It will give your interior a newer look and dump the odometer failure issues. I will post a video of that upgrade soon.
Cool, thank you again. Only issue, does that mean I lose the stock boost gauge? There is none in the 70 T5 cars. I much prefer the dash from the 70 cars, although I prefer the exterior of the 8s - and the Volvo build.
Yes you will but that think doesn't tell you much anyway. You can easily install a real boost gauge for under $20. I am working on a cluster mod that will put a boost gauge inside that x70 cluster.
I'll wait to hear the outcome of the new mod! I probably need an aftermarket one anyway, it's destined to be a high torque sleeper so will have adjustable boost amongst the many mods. Do you mean just replace the cluster, or the dash itself? I remember the V70 had a more organic look. I was considering a custom leather retrim.
Just the cluster. You can have a separate boost gauge, my mod will be installing a boost gauge in the x70 cluster. All those cars need boost gauges anyway.
Got the Volvo mat. Did the rubber hood release hack. Sprayers updated. Got the extra turn signal side lights. Got VW wiper relay. Finally upgraded the sound system to the Premium. Got the Volvo Radio codes for the upgrade no problem; in a day from the Volvo.com site. Both S70s are Robert DIY certified specs. :) Added breaklight spoilers to both S70s. Doing the LED interior bulb upgrade in both. DOWNGRADED hood release to the rubber pin release instead of that cheap plastic crap. Thanks Robert! Every time I do a parts run I always think. WWRG?(#WhatWouldRobertGet) or "guys wait a minute.....I must consult "the ROBERT!" Maybe one day you can meet the twins. Goonter (98 S70 Base) Helmoot (00 S70 GLET). Thanks for your continued help and knowledge. #ImaGoHead
Nice vid Robert. Always enjoy your resourcefulness. Great tips! I think your black wagon would look great with some tint! Just had my 95 850 T-wagon (burgundy) done and it changes the looks completely! (check state laws of course). Cost me about $250, but well worth it. Also protects cargo.
LOL, this is the only car that I have not tinted yet. Haven't worked in a few years so the budget is real tight. Here in Albuquerque it's no big deal because the sun is so hot. I got my last dd (daily driver) tinted here (Volvo 960 ), they did a great job for $160. I actually need it for night driving, lights behind me hurt my eyes a lot. 35% Works for me but I'd like to put 20% or 25% on this car. I tinted my 740, yellow 850, and my daughter's red S70 GLT. When I did my yellow 850 I purchased some good pre-cut tint but the back glass tint had a crease in it so I left it off.
My scanguage always shuts itself off while driving my 98 s70 GLT. It works fine for resetting codes but it doesn't stay on if it is not interacted with. It works in all other cars just fine.
I like the s70 the best ! the 850 remind me of the 940 inside... Robert here in NY we don't have these type places we can go and pull parts as now its an insurance thing here . no one out in the yards they bring the parts back to you while you wait..yes... so most parts start at $50 and up! so I think some one need to start selling on UA-cam and eBay here as most of these parts are not going to be had for a descent price .. I use ebay but my hitch cost me $150 bucks and the sedan bars (top) go for about $100 bucks or more.
I fetch used parts for cost plus $25. I sent a guy a hitch last week for $90, then he had to purchase the draw, ball & dust cap. Likely cost him $135 after all said and done. Shipped a guy a newish MAF for $75, not to bad when they cost $195 new. The parts I get usually come with a 7 month warranty.
I have recently purchased a manufacture date Jan 2000 V-70 XC SE, it is silver with factory limo-tint in the back, maximum legal tint in front, a set of BBS mesh style Volvo 18's from some 2008 Volvo at the wrecking yard, it has the heated seats, the roof racks, but no turbo and no traction control. It has 140,000 miles on it, the first owner put 25,000 a year on it for four years, the second owner put 40,000 miles on it over the next 13 years, got I'll, and let it sit for four years before he sold his house with the car included. I bought the Volvo V-70 XC SE from the new home-owner.
Robert DIY Well, they're better than the old 240 single squirters ;-) You wouldn't happen to know how to wire in the TRACS switch for a car that originally did not have TRACS, do you? My ABS modules has already been replaced with a unit with TRACS and I even have the switch, but the harness does not have the connector for the switch, so I have to wire it up (no stranger to wiring).
+looncraz TRACKS is useless in these cars. I think it's more than just adding some wires and a module but I could be wrong. I'm not the person that could help you there. Maybe you can go to the junk yard and spend 30 hours figuring it out.
Robert DIY I found TRACS to be very useful for the first second of acceleration - or in snow/mud. Basically just limited slip. On dry pavement, though, you'd get terrible torque steer once it turned off and the tires turned to smoke. Without a turbo to make that happen, though, I think TRACS would be more useful. AFAICT, there's nothing more than activating the TRACS now. Junkyards are dangerous for me due to bee and wasp allergies. And I can never seem to find one with a Volvo in it...
I'm having trouble finding the security cover for my yellow T-5R Wagon been looking for years even the dealers don't have new ones they stopped making them I do need to get the roof rails those should be easier to find. I'm trying to sourse a set of automatic adjusting headlights and the interior switch from Europe they came standard out there by law.
I have seen a security cover in the salvage yard. I shopped for months to find mine. I'll try to remember to let you know if I see another one. Roof rails are easy to get. Hard to find the cross bars. Auto headlights? Never heard of those. Thanks for watching.
Hey Robert! Thanks for all the videos - I have a 97 950 sedan and have learned so much about this car by watching your videos. Thank you! I was wondering if you would know where to get some roof rails for a sedan? I have searched pretty much everywhere but can't seem to find them!
Great video Robert! I have done some of your adds in my 850. I would like to know how to install the programmable intermittent wiper relay. Thanks again!
The relays that I use are from VW's. If you find a VW with a wiper stalk that doesn't have the intermittent wiper slider on it, it likely has the programmable relay. Some VW's from '91 through '02. Most have .99 stamped on them. After you get the relay you go under the dash, pull your relay and install the replacement.
Thanks to this video I was able to recognize and grab a bumper cover from the junkyard. It was laying, rolled up in the back. I thought it was just some any other mat. How does the velcro attach to the car?
Hi Robert Thank you for your videos! Very interesting! I am having difficulties identifying the windshield trim (in video - @1:23). From which generation V70 is it? Can it be bought separately from a part's dealer? Is there a part number for it? Is it being clipped in or is it glued to the windshield? Are there any alternatives to it? Like gluing a simple strap of rubber along the windshield?
The weather trim is from the same base model which are the P80 Volvo's, the newest cars which are the S70 sedan and V70 wagon built from '97 through '00. The trim can be purchase from the sealer at about $175 US per side. Video links for the instructions for the removal and installation are found in the remarks sections of the video.
hi Robert, congratulations for your channel, this is Pablo from Spain, proudly owner of a 850 T5R olive green, im huge fan of your videos. i want to ask if its possible to make video for cargo cover repair, i have one like yours in the video with the same problem, good shape but not retracting and i would like to repair and install...tutorials in the net are very confusing and not clear, hope you can show your repair method. thanks in advance and keep ut the good job, youre king of volvos 850 best car of history!!!:D:D
thank you my friend, i already saw that through volvospeed but for me it is very confusing, im not expert...i guess im not able to follow that tutorial...thanks anyway Robert if someday you make one video..i will see. God bless you.
Sorry 4 my english. If its possible Robert i would thank you very much..i don know many people here with t5r...i bought the cover last week from an old V70 and im waiting... first repair and then install. Im not in a hurry if you have some free time to make it more detailled (like you explain in your videos) i would be very grateful to you. Thank.you Robert the volvo master!!!! Kind regards.
I have a 1997 volvo 850 without the turbo. I grabbed an info switch (trip computer) from I believe an s70. We plugged the info switch in but it didn't work. What did we do wrong?
Hi Robert watch all your videos I have two Volvos a V70 and a 850r us in the UK having problems getting spares how is it in the USA I got lthe throttle cable in the UK!!!
When are you going to send me the pricing and information on the upgraded front bumper cover with the front spoiler. I'm wanting to put one on our base model.
Thanks Robert! I assume that means that rails cannot be installed to support the crossbars on this model; rather crossbars can only be installed via the door jam holes.
Hi Robert, Is your MP3 solution in this video a custom mod or is there a kit that can be purchased? If it is custom, where does it connect in the back? Thanks, Phil
+vlr7 I have not made the video for it yet, but here is a tutorial that I wrote for it a few years ago. - atthetipwebs.com/technologyinstructions/cargo_cover_real_repair.htm
Hi Robert, I have been trying to find your Vid on the Antenna Switch wiring and fitting . Unfortunately your link keeps on bringing up this one. Have you a new link plz. cheers Joe.
Hi Again, No I clicked on your links above. and came back here. But on your new advice there i searched for Install Antenna Switch 850 and found it.ok. cheers Joe. PS. Most of these can Also be done on the C70 99 - 2005.. joe.
Hi Robert, love the videos. I'm trying to get my 98 Volvo v70 running again. I referred to your videos on how to install the timing belt. My question: what do I check now? I think my marks are correct but when trying to start car, it won't kick over. I hear it trying, everything is spinning, but no real sound from the engine. I have a full tank of gas. Also, if my marks are off by 1 or 2 mm will that also cause the car not to kick over? Do u have a cell I could call you on?
Ruqayyah Ali Hi Raqayyah, are you saying that you replaced the timing belt? If so, did you roll the motor over manually before you tried to start the car? My contact info is on my website.
Hi Robert, great informative videos, I have a 1998 V70 with 1997 850 Engine, am in The Bahamas, could you recommend a junk yard that I can reach out to when in search or parts for my baby, am having an a/c wiring issue, looking for wiring harness.
Hi Robert, I've seen a bunch of your videos and they're all very helpful. I was wondering if there was anything special you had to do to make your scangauge 2 work? I have a 2002 v70. When I plug the scangauge in it powers on, however it usually turns off after about 30 seconds, and only displays the volts and nothing for mpg average or instantaneous. Is there maybe something wrong with my car that is causing this to happen? Thanks for your time
+Justin Andersen There are setting that you can make to make the gauge work differently. The Scangauge website and instructions should help you with that. If you need to, contact their customer service.
+Robert DIY yeah, the ones that catch the water from the windshield in the channel so it doesn't drip in the open window, I have an 850, can't see how to attach it or what to look for at a junk yard
Dear Robert! I want to install the trip computer on my 1995 850. It has the Yazaki instrument cluster. Do you have the trip computer for this cluster, or a VDO cluster with trip computer to sell? Thanks again
Yuri Bevilacqua I may. From what I have read, the '98 x70 cluster with trip is suppose to be plug and play for your car. The hard thing is finding one with mileage that is close or correct. Have you read the actual mileage or do you know how many miles the car has?
Robert DIY It has to be a 1995. I tried to install a 1996 and the speedometer does not work plus the ABS light goes on. The 1995 speedometer receive a analog pulse from speed sensor on transmission, and the 1996 receive a digital pulse from ABS module. My cluster indicates around 144000 miles. But I guess it is not a big problem. The engine and transmission was rebuided a couple of months ago.
Yuri Bevilacqua Well, the '98 cluster is a Yazaki brand and I was told by a guy with a '95 equipped with a Yazaki cluster that he dropped in a cluster from a V70. I don't have a trip but I can keep my eye out of one if you'd like.
Hi Rob, great vid; two questions. Which VW relay should I use for the intermittent wiper, is it the 99 one? Regarding the pull up safety net, I have R seats in my volvo with the net that hooks in to the roof, I'm missing the roof anchors, I have got hold of the front ones, but can't figure how they fit. Can you tell me? Thanks in advance
Kristian Adams The VW relay is the .99 one. However, there is another one that works. If you are in the junk yard and see a VW built prior to '01, that does NOT have the delay wiper switch/slider on the stalk, it has a relay that will work. As for the net anchors, they are threaded through the top handles. I can so a video of them.
Robert how do you take off the 70 series Windshield trim and install it on a 850 thanks (From My favorite Volvo 850 and 70 series add on improvement features (updated) - Auto Information Series)
Hi Robert, another great informative video. Gonna get those upgraded windscreen sprayers. Im looking at a CD player like the one in the vid but it doesnt have Premium Sound System written on it, can you tell me if that is an SC-805? Looks just like it.
Hey Robert, is the wiring already inside the fender to add a set of those side marker lights? what is the most common color and will they blink with the turn signals and stay on with parking lights?
Some cars are wired and some are not. No rhyme or reason, but you can tell when looking through the hinge area of the door. Some people wire them to the parking light wire that flash with the turn signals. That is the proper way and that is how I did mine. Some wire them to the running parking light and have them on all the time (not sure why). The wire connector is the same as the connector for the door open lights on the edge of the doors. atthetipwebs.com/technologyinstructions/volvo_850_side_marker_lights.htm
Robert. Do you know what I can do to get my radio to light up at night? The presets buttons and most of the bottom is dark. thanks for your continued help!
Robert, regarding the window trim with the channel for water, do I use the existing clips to hold them in place on my 95 wagon or do I need to get the clips off the one I find in a junk yard if I can find them? I don't have the luggage rack, they just run the length of the car. Thanks.
Great video, I harbour the same opinions about these mods! is it tricky to install the headlights? I stole the switch off a scrap car and the headlights but nothing else..
I have a 1996 850 wagon base model and I'd like to add the trip computer info switch. Do I need to buy a new trip computer and install it into my cluster or do I just need to add the info switch?
Hi Robert. I have A Volvo V 70 1997 2.5 na non turbo yesterday I went to the Junkyard and got A Info center switch. and installed it. But nothing happen. I can is in my display that it have all the features in the display if I use A flashlight. the contact is from A Volvo V70 97 . Do you Know if there is something missing. The Back of the Switch is Yellow and the plug in the Harness is also Yellow Thank´s For all your video´s they are Very Helpful
Hey Robert! Question about trip counter. I have 97, S70 TDI that got crashed but it was with a lot of features. Got my self 97 V70 TDI but i don't have many features. So i want to take those S70 features on my V70. Mostly miss trip counter, so can i get it on my V70. Thanks a lot for you're help!
Can I put the trip computer on a Volvo 850 that doesn't have it from another Volvo 850 that has it? And if I can, what are the steps for achieving this?
@@RobertDIY I did watch the video about installing the trip computer, but since mine doesn't have the trip computer stock, I was wondering how is the wiring going to happen. (Before taking the dashboard apart, you know...)
hi robert, my '95 850 has the trip computer, but it only shows the time of day, no other items will show up when i turn the knob. the display test works fully during the ignition bulb check, but as i said, only the time will display while driving. any suggestions?
Hi Robert, I was wondering. I snagged a pair of taillights from the scrap yard off of an 01 v70. It seems the light housings are about a half an inch shorter. Did you have to do any modification to the new tail lights to get them to fit properly? Thanks again for all your videos, they've helped me through a few jams!
It seems that I got the wrong model rear tail lights. I didn't realize there was a break in production styles from 2000 to 2001, which would explain why the tail lights I got off the v70 are shorter. Thanks again for all your videos, looks like I have more excursions to the scrap yards in the future (pretty 2001 cars seem to be rare to find around me lately, but I will persist!)
If you ask me, the 1997 shared alot of components with the 1997 V70, which sometimes makes it difficult to get the right part, since many part (like chassi) dont fit. Many parts stores gives you the 1997 V70 part believing it will fit. The last pure 850 is the 1996. I got a 1996 855, with a B5252S (no turbo, 10 valve) with 227 000 miles on it. (Owned cars, SAAB 9-5 times 3, SAAB 900 times 2, SAAB 9-3, Volvo 740 times 2, Volvo 855, Volvo V70). Cheers from Sweden.
+Robert DIY Last year of the 850 was 1997, first year of the S/V70 was 1997, at least here in Sweden. Therefore some autoparts stores sells the S/V 70 paret as parts for the 850, and some of them don't fit.
Hey Rob, I've got an 03 v70 and the emblem in the middle of the steering wheel is circular and the color has faded. Can only find the rectangular ones anywhere. Do these versions even pop out, or would a grille emblem work?
Alright, fair enough. One of the only questions you hadn't already answered in all your videos for me. ha. Here's another one - I got a b4 servo upgrade for the transmission(rough shifting 2-3), is there anywhere other than the dealer I could get the software for my tcm updated? They want 130 an hour + software package.
Cool, I've got a shop in Ithaca that specializes, probably take a day trip out and get it flushed and upgraded. Thanks for all your tips, getting me into fixing my own car and saving a lot at the mechanic (who hates my car anyway)
I havent found one yet.but I got 98 Volvo v70 xc turbo and I have put over 5,000 worth of parts and maintenance on myself just from watching you and went from buying the car at 100,000 to 473,000 just last mouth...you a hero man keep up the good work and advice
aleksander kurilenko Well, would the fact that I have been able to build a 400+ video data base on them be an indication? No man, my 20 year old car is perfect. LOL
aleksander kurilenko Well, here's the deal, I don't think there is any better 20 year old car to purchase, drive, and keep repaired. I have driven this car across country 4 times since May. They can last 500,000 miles if properly maintained. Mine has 268,000 right now and I was about to head across the country in it again. It's fun to drive since Turbo, somewhat easy to repair, and parts are still easy to get.
i can vouche that those cargo mats would fit in the 70 sires. also i gotta question if you don't mind, any idea on cup-holders? the factory ones are god-awful.
I can dig it.. but why not just get the Android app called Torque Pro. Then you can buy a 25.00 OBDII bluetooth dongle and off you go. You can run codes/reset and monitor anything the engine management system can detect. The app is like 5.99
Robert DIY Pretty hip so far.You will dig them! My buddy had one hooked to his 12 sec 1991 745, daily driver. Also works in his 330xi with a permanent, 7" in dash tablet setup. I use one for egad my three 850's. I use android.. There are apps for Apple but I have no idea which or what is best. bestandroidappsfor.com/utility/the-best-android-obd-ii-apps Cheers and thanks for all the inspirational videos
Wait, wait, wait,..... about window trim: "If you get them new they're about a buck fifty apiece. If you go to a salvage yard.... you only spend about ten dollars for those." hmmmmm
+Louis PüŠtank I don't get how people complain about hills. As the old song says... "What goes up, must come down". Check your average speed. When I'm doing highway travel, I usually average about 23.5. I get around 28 mpg on the highway (72 mph average).
+Robert DIY Not a complaint, I just have kind of a heavy foot, even on the down hill parts. On my trip up to Washington from California I averaged about 63 mph with 25.3 mpg, which I don't think is too bad. I was really pushing it up those mountains. That turbo charged 5 cylinder is so much more fun than the 4 banger Camry I was in before....
Hey Louis, wasn't really knocking you about the hills thing. I really like my I5 Turbo. I would think you would get a little better highway mileage. Do you run Volvo plugs.
+Robert DIY Not sure what plugs, it's on my list though.... I had a mechanic give it a good lookover and the plugs weren't mentioned on things that need servicing so I think they must be in good shape still. You prefer the OEM plugs?
Bought my 99 S70 back in 2002. Learned more about my car in 15 minutes than I have in the 21 years that I've had it. Thanks Robert. Amazing video.
Glad to help

Very helpful Volvo videos! I own several 1998 to 2000 Volvos and a few Volvo parts cars and do all the maintenance myself with your help. You can't beat the purchase price of a few hundred dollars for a great riding, handling and comfortable car. From a 77 year old junk yard dog with Volsheimers.

Drivers side foglight assembly and bulb repair is my next project after i install the new heater core and firewall coupling coupler valve which should arrive this Friday! ^_^ Another awesome video man!

+Ricky P. Most wagons already have them. My guess is that someone removed yours.
After waiting almost seven years, UA-cam finally decides to suggest this video, four days after I learned about and ordered the adjustable intermittent wiper relay. Although it seems I now need to find out if V70 sprayers fit a 940.
ouch
Robert, you are a treasure and greatly appreciated. I have a '89 780 and original owner. Any video support for our marque? Take care

Thanks Rob, yeah a vid of bother front and rear anchor points would be good, I imagine the rears are pretty straight forward
huh?
Thanks for sharing your mods.
Lots of cool ideas !
Thomas Drozd Thanks for watching.
Great channel! Glad I found you Robert.
Thanks for watching.
LOL, thanks for sharing.
10:14 for anyone wondering that cargo mat fits in the sedan (854) I have one in my 854 and it fits perfectly
Thanks for sharing
not bad..i just bought 97 s60..ur video's are very helpful
+victor sandoval Huh? I don't think they make the S60R until 2004.
That cargo floor mat does fit sedans as well, I have the same one in my car.
They make one for the sedans
Again, great video! Do you have a video showing how to install KEYLESS ENTRY for a 1996 850? Thanks!
No I don't.
My scanguage always shuts itself off while driving my 98 s70 GLT. It works fine for resetting codes but it doesn't stay on if it is not interacted with. It works in all other cars just fine.
Change the setting in setup.
Which setting? I have the sleep event set to 0 RPM.
Nice. If it's an XC, it should have a turbo.
ua-cam.com/video/ArBg_eyCT9w/v-deo.html
You are correct! And I am embarrassed!
By the time this video was over I had ordered those updated wiper nozzles - for $11 ea, new :p.
Had no idea those were available for my car!
+looncraz yrs sir. I do NOT like those dual squirters.
Robert DIY Well, they're better than the old 240 single squirters ;-)
You wouldn't happen to know how to wire in the TRACS switch for a car that originally did not have TRACS, do you?
I think they have limited slip, am I wrong?
I'm having trouble finding the security cover for my yellow T-5R Wagon been looking for years even the dealers don't have new ones they stopped making them I do need to get the roof rails those should be easier to find. I'm trying to sourse a set of automatic adjusting headlights and the interior switch from Europe they came standard out there by law.
I have seen a security cover in the salvage yard. I shopped for months to find mine. I'll try to remember to let you know if I see another one.
Roof rails are easy to get. Hard to find the cross bars.
Auto headlights? Never heard of those.
Thanks for watching.
Great ideas here Robert, thanks. Keep 'em coming.
Will do.
I have a set but they are rough. People sell them from time to time.
Robert, you are the best. Thank you!
+Kirstin Morrell Thanks for watching.
Great video Robert! I have done some of your adds in my 850. I would like to know how to install the programmable intermittent wiper relay.
Thanks again!
Yuri Bevilacqua Unplug the existing one and plug in the replacement. No instructions really needed. If you need a relay let me know, I have one.
Robert DIY can you get them from volvo? any specific model volvo we can go to in the junk yard to get one?
The relays that I use are from VW's. If you find a VW with a wiper stalk that doesn't have the intermittent wiper slider on it, it likely has the programmable relay. Some VW's from '91 through '02. Most have .99 stamped on them. After you get the relay you go under the dash, pull your relay and install the replacement.
Thanks to this video I was able to recognize and grab a bumper cover from the junkyard. It was laying, rolled up in the back. I thought it was just some any other mat. How does the velcro attach to the car?
Velcro strip.
Great job Robert!
Thanks
Awesome information & tutorial 👏 👌 👍🏿 😀
Thanks for watching
Hi Robert
Thank you for your videos!
Great video! Thanks!
thanks

+Paulinho Souza I'll try to do an overview video soon. Mine has unwound over the past week.
Paulinho Souza I posted the instructions on the link I sent but most people like the videos.
I have a 1997 volvo 850 without the turbo. I grabbed an info switch (trip computer) from I believe an s70. We plugged the info switch in but it didn't work. What did we do wrong?
Huh? You either need the trip computer display from a 850 cluster or you need the entire cluster from a '98 x70.
I like your stuff
thank you very much.
Hi Robert watch all your videos I have two Volvos a V70 and a 850r us in the UK having problems getting spares how is it in the USA I got lthe throttle cable in the UK!!!

Robert- Can roof rails be installed on a 2000 S70, like you did on your wagon? If so, you know which model rails would fit?
Thanks for the help!
+Dahnie Brandes the roof cross bars mount in the little holes at the top of the door jams.
Thanks Robert! I assume that means that rails cannot be installed to support the crossbars on this model; rather crossbars can only be installed via the door jam holes.
Anything is possible. I have seen a picture of the rails on a sedan. Not sure how they attached.
Hi Robert,
Is your MP3 solution in this video a custom mod or is there a kit that can be purchased? If it is custom, where does it connect in the back?
Thanks, Phil
Phil, there is a MP3 mod video that I have uploaded. You can purchase a stereo adapter to connect devices.
So there is a cutoff fir 98 models where you can swap the cluster without needing to swap the computers?
correct
Nice video! You mentioned you fixed your luggage cover roll with some pvc pipe? Can you share some info? Thanks!

I don't understand your question.
Can you do a video on how to swap the windshield trim? Can't find that anywhere
Along the sides?

Robert DIY please, I would like to put one of these in my '95 850.
Thank you for your support.
The trip or the x70 cluster?

Hi Robert, another great informative video. Gonna get those upgraded windscreen sprayers. Im looking at a CD player like the one in the vid but it doesnt have Premium Sound System written on it, can you tell me if that is an SC-805? Looks just like it.
SC-815 or SC-816.
Great, cheers.

Did I understand you correctly that with a 1996 850 you just have to install the info switch to get the other features from the digital clock readout?
+Pete B No, you will need the trip display & switch. You can also install a '98 x70 cluster & switch from a car that has both.
Clean that mat with some Bleche-White tire cleaner. Let it sit for a good 10 minutes and then blast it with the water hose. Good as new
Cool, thanks for sharing.

+selim demir . Never did it on a 960 but the same may work.
Robert, regarding the window trim with the channel for water, do I use the existing clips to hold them in place on my 95 wagon or do I need to get the clips off the one I find in a junk yard if I can find them? I don't have the luggage rack, they just run the length of the car. Thanks.
Ricky P. Doesn't matter. If your current clips are not rusted, use them.

Hey Charles, not sure I follow you. What kind of car are you planning on putting them on?
Robert DIY my fault. I was planning on putting them on my 850 like you did in your video.
Hi Robert - do you know if the ScanGauge will work with a Volvo V90? (I'm guessing it does not - but that's only a guess).

im getting a 1997 Volvo next week is that a good year it has 98 thousand miles on it
+MECHOTE MCDOWELL I will pass 300,000 in mine in 3 days.
In the US the '97 was the last 850 and the '98 was the beginning of the x70 cars. No part issues here.
+Robert DIY
Last year of the 850 was 1997, first year of the S/V70 was 1997, at least here in Sweden. Therefore some autoparts stores sells the S/V 70 paret as parts for the 850, and some of them don't fit.
I'd recommend the steering wheel from Swedish/European models. Personally think they are nicer than US.
+kocaarik lol, where will I get one of those?

aleksander kurilenko Well, would the fact that I have been able to build a 400+ video data base on them be an indication? No man, my 20 year old car is perfect. LOL

aleksander kurilenko Well, here's the deal, I don't think there is any better 20 year old car to purchase, drive, and keep repaired. I have driven this car across country 4 times since May. They can last 500,000 miles if properly maintained. Mine has 268,000 right now and I was about to head across the country in it again. It's fun to drive since Turbo, somewhat easy to repair, and parts are still easy to get.
Upvoting so you can reach 850 upvotes, if you know what I mean ;P
Thanks.
i can vouche that those cargo mats would fit in the 70 sires.
also i gotta question if you don't mind, any idea on cup-holders? the factory ones are god-awful.
Kevin Carlson For what vehicle? The ones for the 850 and x70 cars are not that bad.
98 s70, they are spindly and don't hold much.
also they break.
Lol, you should see the ones in the 900 series cars.
im an american dammit, i need american- sized cup holders.
ROTF, My daughter totaled my 960 messing with the cup holder in that car.
I can dig it.. but why not just get the Android app called Torque Pro. Then you can buy a 25.00 OBDII bluetooth dongle and off you go.
You can run codes/reset and monitor anything the engine management system can detect. The app is like 5.99
Well, I had my OBD-2 tool long before smart phone car apps were out. :?
If you'd like, you can mail me one and I'll do a video for it.
Robert DIY No worries.. was just trying to save her a few bux. :) as you were.
I hope to get one of those tools soon and do a review on it.

Is 19.2 acceptable gas milage?
Highway or city? What is the average speed?
Wait, wait, wait,..... about window trim: "If you get them new they're about a buck fifty apiece. If you go to a salvage yard.... you only spend about ten dollars for those." hmmmmm
+B Welkinator LOL
+B Welkinator hahahah its so true though.
i bought both sides 3 weeks ago from salvage yard for $18
my info display is only half working any ideas?
aaron schmitt Likely the cluster going bad. Is it a 850?
V70xc 1998 nothing changes with a turn of the switch. I can see the clock odometer but not the stuff you showed on the left side mpg stuff etc
aaron schmitt Probably a bad switch. If you need help getting one let me know.
Dear Santa: Here is my Christmas list... :-)
+Rick “Cre8tv” MG LOL, that would be fun. My useful add on's are growing.
Trip computer is for VDO instrument cluster only. NA 850 cannot use it.
Some NA cars have vdo clusters.
@@RobertDIY I see, then I am the unlucky one. My NA didn't come with VDO cluster 😔
19.2 mpg?! I was worried my 22.5 mpg was a little low. A lot of highway driving but there's lots of hills.
Only.
