I prefer the more frequent small updates. Like where its your life and hey maybe you hung a light, maybe you bought a curtain. Just small little things instead of over the top grand reveal. Usually those kinda glaze over the process to save for time so I like seeing more of the real life hurdles of designing a home. Also we like you as a person so its fun to see your life as well!

I like seeing all the little day to day things you’re doing to your place. That’s how we all update our homes and it’s fun to watch your journey.
I personally would want the living room and kitchen to be the same color since the division isn’t clear..

Such a cute place. I prefer the more frequent updates like a lot of others have mentioned! It’s fun to see it as you go and see the thought process of you picking things out and deciding on stuff rather than a before and after kind of thing.

a few random more functional tips (i grew up with my parents remodeling our old house so i see spaces and instantly go to that mindset)
    1. shower curtain if fabric still needs a plastic backing to prevent mildew and mold - i love the idea of the ceiling certain but maybe do a sheer fabric bc the window lets in a lot of good light
    2. get a bathroom fixture with 2 or 3 bulb spots it makes the place feel so much brighter
    3. outdoor lighting! not only design wise but for safety at night is super important
no wallpaper in bathrooms with showers, the humidity increases chance of mold, maybe a lighter yellow could complement the green nicely?
i can’t wait to see what you do with the place i think more frequent check ins can be fun and then at the end do a bigger video showing it all together. plus with frequent check ins you get more ideas from the audience

You dont actually need plastic backing for a shower curtain, you just need a washable fabric that you can pop in the washer regularly with a cup of vinegar :) just get two shower curtains so you can switch them out while one is in the wash!

I like seeing the process. I mean, sure, there’s something satisfying about the whole instant gratification of seeing a total transformation in twenty minutes, but you miss out on the reality of how many problems come up that need to be solved and such. Seeing the thought process in real time is much more educational and in the end, I think we all appreciate the whole adventure more. But in the end, it’s whatever works best for you which you’ll figure out as your go along. I love that headboard. It’s so practical and cool and interesting. I hope you find one 😃

I think it would be much more conducive to the process of decorating to film more of a day to day style. Then you can show off the new pieces you’ve acquired, because you’ll likely be skipping around the house rather than finishing each room one at a time, right? Loving this content! It’s so exciting ❤

In regards to the line by the bar 4:13 , if you paint an accent color as a strip starting from where the counter starts on the left (looking from inside the kitchen 4:38 ), it can help break up the space and highlight the bar itself. It doesn’t have to be a bold color. Another muted neutral would work too. I you change the ceiling light fixture there, a darker color would capture direct lighting really well. You can also purposefully play with the projection of the paint lines if you don’t like it being one solid parallel strip.

    • @misplacedstyle

Paige have you heard of the channel "Never too small"? they post tours of small homes/sustainable designs and often interview the designers/architects. I love the idea of more frequent little updates here and there, like most people already said. For the bar area I would paint the inside of the arch if that makes sense. For some reason I like the idea of red or chartreuse or something dark and bold. And then hang a piece of art on the wall right above the bar. I think a couple of wall shelves filled with books, pottery, etc. would look nice on the wall next to the bar.

If you don't want to repaint the entire kitchen to match the living room, I'd recommend getting the paint color from the living room matched and painting that one little kitchen wall (and the under side of the "arch" above the bar, both visible at 04:36) with it. That way there isn't a line in the middle of a wall where the two paint colors meet

I would love to see the process, maybe like a weekly house update. Then maybe you can do a separate video focusing on the before and after of a space once it's "done". But the weekly one could just be bits and bobs you've bought for different spaces because few people decorate just one room at a time.

lol snuck another "chartreuse" in there
but yeah you can go ahead and paint the bathroom if you want it dark and moody, but I think you can have the same effect if you have a small lamp replace any overhead lighting as the main source of light (if possible). i think it makes a small room look taller and when you're feeling extra moody you can add candles!!

Both! I LOVE process videos, watching you actually work (though I k ow they are hard to film, or least I find the filming a constant distraction). But you can always just do a wide-angle time lapse. And then I also LOVE before and after reveals, even if I’ve watched the whole process along the way. I think you could edit some talking head stuff where you talk about the decisions you are making along the way, the insights, the ways you are changing your mind, etc, interspersed with time lapse of you actually working.

I’ve never seen an L.A. place this old without a dedicated dining space, even in a one bedroom. Most of them at least have a breakfast nook, which was probably the case with your place. 🤔 I don’t think the bar area is original, especially since the cabinets don’t match anything else in the house and it opens the kitchen up to the living room.

Since you mentioned a wine rack.. you could put up a wall mounted wine rack that spans from the bottom the the arch to the counter top, it would hide the harsh paint transition line. My only concern would be making the space feel too crowded, but it you did a really low-profile simple rack it might work. There's some pretty wooden ones on Etsy. To be honest though, I don't think the paint line really looks bad.

Counter height chair (not the bar height chair). I highly recommend ones that look like a chair, with back and seat cushion. Arms are optional, not as crucial. Foot step is a must, too, for high chair. I made the mistake of getting a counter chair that looks like an Asian stool. Couldn’t sit on it for an hour and my lower back hurt. The step is right under the seat, not conducive to get on and off.

I'd definitely do wallpaper in the curve of the bar to distinguish it as its own area. I'm pretty wallpaper obsessed though and would do it in your bathroom too - I saw another commenter say to avoid it in areas with high humidity but you can lightly brush or spray a sheer matte poly/varnish (like for hardwood floors) over it which will both protect it and make it really easy to wipe down to clean.

I'm getting a vibe from your place as if it could be a reinterpretation of a 1050's LA apartment ala 1950 Humphrey Bogart in the film 'In a Lonely Place'. Art, plants, pillows and drape fabric will bring it alive. Loving the furniture placement in the living room. Also seeing the view to the kitchen area from the living room as an updated "Casa Blanca" re interpretation as well. Plants, brass and low lighting from your cool wooden lamp. Rattan small lamp shades for your sconces could also use a think.

Paige, I feel like the arch over the bar needs to match the living room. So, the wall in the kitchen shared by the living room wall/archway should just match the living room paint color. Then, if you're doing a bold paint color in the kitchen, get some kind of artwork for that wall in the kitchen to match/compliment the paint color you choose! Are you renting? If so how are you handling getting approval on painting, etc.

Ooh - to me the outside area is calling for a skinny German biergarten table & benches. Utilitarian to balance out the romantic nature of all the vines.

I think for the bar area / kitchen, you should lean into the paint line between the living room and the kitchen, use a dark or bold color underneath the arch, and bring it all the way over to the left wall of the kitchen!

Put an art piece over the weird paint line at the bar between the living room and the kitchen! Breaking the line with a visual pop would be super cool!

I’d love to see a seating area beside the garage door for indoor outdoor seating. Like a couple of comfy chairs and a glass coffee table

For the paint line, I think you should put a small vintage piece of art right in the center to make the line itself more distinct!

For that arch/paint line, why not make the arch a feature and paint it a completely different colour.

I would wallpaper the kitchen bar arch or put a piece of art over the paint line to distract and bridge the 2 rooms

I would hang from a screwed in rod a gathered or tied down patterned curtain over the corner where the paint line is. It'll hide the line and give you a reason to add printed pattern and a killer rod.
