- Francisco Beltran Buencamino (born 1883- died 1952), is a Filipino composer who performed as concert pianist during the American colonial period.
Born on November 5, 1883 in Bulacan, Buencamino, Sr. is a son of a musically inclined couple, Fortunato Buencamino, a church organist and a band master and Luisa Beltran, a singer.
He studied music composition and harmony at Liceo de Manila which unfortunately, he was not able to finish. He also taught at the Ateneo de Manila and Centro Escolar de Señoritas. At Centro Escolar de Señoritas, he founded its Conservatory of Music. He also created the Buencamino Music Academy in 1930. Nicanor Abelardo was one of his students. Expanding his career, he also ventured into musical direction and scoring, composing music for Sampaguita Pictures, LVN, and Excelsior. He also wrote several sarswela and kundiman. He died on October 16, 1952.
As a musician
Buencamino created several piano compositions which includes vocal works and piano solos and duets as well as piano pieces for children. Among his many piano works are "Mayon", a descriptive fantasy for piano and orchestra (also arranged for solo piano), and "Ang Larawan" for piano and orchestra (also arranged for two pianos) which are in the romantic bravura style of Liszt.

NB. Finally, I present you one of the almost-forgotten masterpieces from the Philippines' almost-forgotten composers.
To be honest, I terribly am envious of the composers mentioned that have an obvious Philippine influence in their masterpieces, as I can't possibly make something as grand and as patriotic as they can. Even my "Little Waltz No. 2" is not enough, and I'm having ideas for a "Concert Waltz in B-flat minor", that to which I still cannot realize just yet.
If you have any sheet music of Philippine classical pieces like this, let me know. Now is the time for the Philippines to show their music as magnificent as this.
NB. Thank you for the 100,000 views!!! :D
My great Grand Uncle.
he doesn't even have a wiki page dedicated to him, how sad. he's such a great talent.
Does this masterpiece has a lyrics?
WTF this is so good and very difficult to play at the same time
Lucky, the Phillipines have composers Buencamino. I'm kind of envious.
ahAHAHAH I'm proudly a filipino!!!!! whohoooOO where are you from? visit the philippines sometime!
Does it have lyrics?
@@discover3432A fellow Southeast Asian myself, an Indonesian-we barely have classical masters, let alone have late/post-Romantic composers! We have folks like Amir Pasaribu or Jazeed Djamin, which are barely known by the general population... nonetheless, contributing not many to exciting repertoires or notable mentions to showcase to the world.
My teacher on music teaches us this im glad that ph have a composer like this

Does this masterpiece has a lyrics?
this is a treasure not just for the Filipino composers and pianists but also to all Filipino citizens. Hope to see more. Its actually rare to watch this kind of video (Audio + Sheet music) of Filipino composers. It's so nice to listen and analyze the flow of the music at the same time.
thanks for this upload! ^_^
Does it have a lyrics po?
@@alaszaucthrvielle2196 Classical music po ito. Wala po itong lyrics hehe 😅
My favorite Buencamino pieces are "Harana" (Serenade), "Maligayang Bati" (A Happy Greeting), and "Hawig-Hawig" (Variations on a Theme). Unfortunately I haven't seen any good recordings of these three pieces.
Perhaps I might make another audio + sheet music video of Filipino piano pieces, only if they're abundant! But, please, if you see other sheet music, please call me. I'm terribly anxious to know other pieces as beautiful as this.
And thank you very much for subscribing, Kuya. Please tune in to my channel. More audio + sheet music videos to come. :D
you are the equivalent of IMSLP.... ahAHHA IMSLPilipino
I have the music sheet of Aliwan by Francisco Buencamino for Piano 1 but it has marks by my piano teacher from years ago. Sa UP Conservatory ata nanggaling yung scores.
Does this masterpiece has a lyrics?
@@alaszaucthrvielle2196 no there are no lyrics in this piece.
Amazing effortless interpretation of Cecile for a very difficult piano piece.
Thanks Buencamino
Cecile Licad.. the one and only
yung, impressive!
This piece is so hard the chordal progression the scales, arpeggios takes years to master this piece.
Can you email pls the manuscript.. really want to play them here in brunei.. your correct... filipinos will forget it if not shared and played always
Keith Amores You don't need the manuscript but except the modern clean one. Manuscripts are harder to read especially that most of the composers have bad note hand writing.
It's a great movie
Oh, OK, you're referencing the 2017 MMFF movie entry. Really, I want to see it, though. XD
homaygad. Cecile Licad really plays it well.
SYA YATA UNG BALIMBING SA MOVIE HEN. LUNA.
Hindi po. Pero dahil pareho po silang taga San Miguel, Bulacan, magka angkan po siguro.
Magkamag-anak lahat ng Buencamino na artista at musikero

This is probably what an aged Chopin would sound like
In some parts it sounds like the first movement from the firsr Tchaikovsky piano concerto
It exactly sounds a bit like Tchaikovsky but still Buencamino...
If Philippines are heaven, then Godowsky’s spirit rests in heaven.
can you post a link to a downloadable sheet music? :-)
