I’m annoyed at how he used the UK flag 🇬🇧 for the English person because the UK has 4 countries in. This is the England flag 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

What did I think about America when we lived in Europe? Tbh, not much.
But in 2017, on our, felt like forever, lasting road trip almost around the States (New York, East Coast down south, "Route 66" west and from there, West coast up to Seattle, WA), I thought of the US as one big country.
And since we met all kinds of people along our way, I found America to be very diverse - kinda my view on Europe. But I was deeply impressed by the Amish people. Talked a lot to some Amish peers.

I love your vibes together and your reactions to these. I especially like to see your totally different reactions to these. hilarious 😂. Just watching you two is watching two stereotypes of an american and a finn from the north 🤗. And no...still don't get the thing about guns in America. No disrespect. #finnishmama

I want to say it as politely as possible - a distinction must be made between Americans who have traveled a lot and those who have never left their country. While the first group realized that America is very far from being the best country in the world, the second group continues to be ignorant, uncritical, selfish, and believes in the sacred saying 'America is the best country in the world with the most freedoms'. - A beautiful fairy tale, but just a fairy tale!

Well, even a lot (not all, but a lot) in the first category go all out in english everywhere. So, they are still a VERY long way from being respectful of anything or anyone that is not themselves. Americans are VERY unpopular if you ask people who are not fluent in english. Now, part of the reason for that is that some 3rd world countries where people are even more uneducated really go under the radar and are not talked about a lot. Meanwhile the USA, which brags a lot, and is noisy overall, wants to attract all eyes in the world, and end up really standing out in the worst way as a result. If people knew as much about all countries in the world as they know about noisy USA, i am not even sure the USA would be in the top 10 of most hated countries. When it is officially number 1 right now. So, part of it is deserved, part of it is not, if i try to be more objective.

I'm a Finn living in the UK and let me tell you there's no one general British accent, same as there's not just one American accent either. Sure, some ways of saying things point to one or the other country, but there's a huge variety of accents inside the UK. Some easier to understand than others 😁

A few years ago, i tried to talk to a british with a weird accent. I could hardly understand a thing. I know that i never have the occasion to actually speak english, and hence suck at speaking/listening, but this really disheartened me. Don't ask why many french suck at english. But well, the british sucks at everything, so that's ok.

@@nox8730 Do you think it could be down to the attitude, you not getting to speak English with the Britons? 🤣 I can't agree with you though, most of the British people I know are just awesome, and very good at many things. (Foreign languages excluded, seems that native English speakers rarely bother with that, so anyone who at least tries gets a bonus point in my books.)

    • @nox8730
      @nox8730 2 роки тому

@@durabelle Yes, when i say 'suck at everything', i was summing things up. I meant, they suck at languages (and a few other things, but you are Finn, so you won't understand our private trolls, notably about rugby). They are, by far, the worst country in Europe regarding foreign languages. Way worse than France. (Congratulations though, Finland is obviously amongst the top countries). Actually, there are 4 or 5 countries in Europe that are worse than France, but english speakers tend to rank SOLELY and specifically regarding proficiency only in their sacrosanct mandatory (according to them) elite language (annoys everyone a lot).
French and spanish are globalized languages too, but if Spain ranks behind France in language proficiency, they still rank much higher than the UK. I seriously won't listen to any english speaking a** who dares talk about how the french suck so much at languages. This, again, comes down to what we have been calling 'french-bashing'. This is a really big trend in english speaking countries (especially the USA, and especially since France opposed the war in Irak in 2003) since the time when our relations with the USA were very tense, from the 40's to the 70's.
As for why i didn't have an opportunity to speak english (actually, literally once in a decade), it is because english is utterly useless where i live. And i mean, it is utterly useless. Everything is in french, and when i mean everything, it is everything, and you wouldn't find even a subtitled film if you looked for one. This is the very reason why i come on english speaking UA-cam. I would have lost everything i learned a long time ago otherwise (plus, if i am to learn a language i need to respect it, and hence, to work on it). Note that i am perfectly fine with everything being in french. We won the Hundred Years war, we don't have to submit to their cultural war (and we know they hate it, but we don't care, the more they insist the more obnoxious they are to us. The day it will become mandatory to speak french in the UK we will consider working more on our english). But at the same time, it takes massive efforts merely not to lose my proficiency. So, yeah, it is unsurprising the french would suck at english. And most french people would actually ask you "yeah, so what?". I know more people proficient in spanish than english.
This is why american tourists who won't bother to even say "bonjour" end up believing the french are rude.

the premise of the video you are watching is false, how many times do you see people say their true feeling on camera and when being interviewed by the "object" (here an American) you are supposed to be criticizing (good or bad); Most people will remain very mild in their replies while when in their intimacy (with friends and family) they won't be as moderate as they are not being filmed and won't risk to hurt by being really honest.
I would say trivial things like 'loud, enthusiastic, self centered" etc... while in reality i could write an essay about Americans after so many years of observation. This video isn't a reflection of what we think about Americans, not even the slightest.

The logic expressed for the need for guns is so flawed. Look around the world for goodness sake: no other country has this ridiculous mindset and are therefore much safer places.

      You’re missing my point

Remove the guns from "the threats" and then: no need for your own gun. BUT this process takes willingness to start the process and then decades. Frankly: not happening during my lifetime.

@@donsland1610 I understand your point but don’t think you understand mine
I don’t have control over the government and most good Americans don’t
You said my logic was flawed so I explained it but it seems to me you did don’t get the difference between Europe and America
      America allows for guns
I gave the reason why Americans would wanna have guns (the ones who aren’t doing crazy things)
I didn’t give a reason why America shouldn’t ban guns
The point is if guns aren’t banned I’d recommend everyone to have a gun because why’d you allow the threat to have something you don’t have that can easily harm you. I wasn’t defending guns being legal I was defending good citizens getting a gun for protection.

I dislike this Ben right away. He says he wants to ask Europeans what they think about americans, but he goes and simply uses english everywhere, as if it was natural that the second rate plebeians out there would use his distinguished language instead of their own.......... That's filthy. He is looking for biased people. If he really wanted to know, he would either learn some european languages, or ask the help of an interpreter in each country so that the people could answer in their own language and be more honest as a result, and so that he could show some actual respect to them.

    - Germans - 91%
    - Serbs, Croats & Turks - 2% each
    - Poles, Han (Chinese), Bosniaks, Albanians - 0,5% each
    - Slovenes, Czechs, Chechens, Kurds, Afgans - 0,2% each
