I'm a Marine veteran that's a little busted up, my wife is a lifelong horse rider. I am an incredibly risk adverse, plans and precautions kind of person, but I want to be able to go horseriding with her one day when it's a possibility. I appreciate this video, I'm trying to understand horse psychology better because the part I'm the most afraid of is my own ignorance and ineptitude. Liked & Subbed, glad to be here. Much love from Ft Worth.
These are such great tips. I absolutely love the stability exercises Emily. As a casual rider turning 67 years young soon, I need all the help I can get to be safer in the saddle. Would enjoy seeing more exercises to assist with this. Collaborative videos are very nice. 💕
Emily’s stability and core muscles tips are great. I know someone who falls off her horses and it’s such an innocuous thing the horse has down, even broke her back. She has done this twice. Just goes to show that there is more to staying in the saddle.
Oh to have a younger body! 4yrs ago when I was going to get on a horse I wanted to try out to purchase, I was shock to discover I could not swing my leg over the cantle without a lot of struggle! I was 69 yrs. old back then. I had not been on a horse in several years. I did buy the horse who I discovered was on the spooky side and also liked to bolt, so we spent our time together doing ground work. One of my major concerns is I don't trust my body strength to stay on if he even thinks about doing something stupid. I will give these exercise a try. Wish me luck.
Me too! I've been doing strengthening exercises, like taking 2 stairs at a time, squats and lunges, bicep curls, upright rows, bicycling etc etc just to stay in shape so I'm strong enough to ride and handle the horses, and to prevent injuries...

Yoga with Adrienne on UA-cam especially her videos for balance and core strength. Last year I set myself to the challenge of yoga everyday no matter what even if it was just 5 minutes. I was amazed at even just 30 days how much younger I felt, my flexibility was massive and my balance I felt so much more confident riding having done so much core and balance work. There's an amazing video of a woman in her 70s with a terrible hunch barely able to walk and after lots of yoga being straight as a board and using balance beams. Just only go to where your body is comfortable don't over extend just gradually each day you'll be amazed at how much younger your body will become.

I live in suburban Chicago at least here I will never be able to afford a horse so I occasionally take lessons and ride whenever I can, usually when traveling. I now know a few moves to try before mounting so I can learn a little about the horse. I’ve heard Ryan talk about riding “leg on, leg off”. So many are using steps now because they feel "pulling" on your horse when mounting, is bad for them. I see you do the traditional mount. What are your thoughts?
I have one to add: make the right decision 😂 I got bucked off last month. Mustang mare, in heat, in water. Backed into the really deep water while going all emotional. I tried to ride her out of it. Big mistake I should have just done a side pull and hold her their until she calms down. Of course currently we don’t have that issue because she is not in heat, but we are still going in and out of water. The moment she gets to excited I do a side pull. Btw the way the water was warm and it was a warm summer day when I got dumped into the water.
Hi this is really aimed at your wife. I found those excersizes do interesting . I am 79 ridden all my life and have been complimented on my very tradition seat. It has been described as a classical position. How ever I am now struggling I had 1 hip replaced 21 June 24 and sadly I need the other one replacing. So no riding for me just watching with envy. However I am determined to get back on when I can. I was particularly interested in the muscel group that lays across the lower belly . As I have gotten older this area is now a un shrinkable bag. So is it more saggy muscel than fat. I am definitely going to give all those excersizes ago. But my right hip which need surgery is a bit to painful for all of them. I am a wee bit worried about being to strenuous as I would hate to make it any worse. However, I do need to rebuild my thigh muscel or I won't be able to take my body weight as I stand in 1 stirrup to allow my other leg to swing over. But that is also very informative regarding restarting an unpredictable horse . My horse is actually a very calm exracer is basically well behaved but can stop and snort. Like a huge straw bale stuck by mistake in the middle of our bridle path and ofcourse un ridden for a good almost 2 years. So a gentle warm up and a attitude tester would be the way forward. Maybe a few lunges with out tack but just reinforcing some ground rules would be the perfect approach. Thank you. I'm even considering joining your group 😁😅😉 I am quiet experienced ridden from the age of 12yrs had my first horse when I was 14yrs . Competed poorly unschool very ambitious bully of a father😝 . ❤ However, having bitterly not fulfilled my fathers ambitions I did go on about 15yrs later to ride as a civilians with a brilliant Army Sergeant. I competed and wonva few things Show jumping and cross country on ex race horses it was a blast but I am farmore sadat these days but still love to ride a horse with some energy it makes me feel young again. I have followed you a lot and I am basicslly up to speed with most if it but for you to address avoiding coming of is a great reminder as its one thing my surgeon had warned me against. So thank you again 😂😊
Hi I have a question, I have a 21 y/o horse. He is a reining horse and he has arthritis near his ring bone. A couple days ago his right leg kept on buckling. What do I do?
You can't fall off the floor either. And you don't fall off a horse, you have unscheduled dismounts. Dead refrigerator boxes and billy goats are great challenges even with a well-trained horse.
Very nice. However, I always wish we could see some ideas about how to stay in the saddle when a well trained horse bucks unexpectedly ... instead of sending one to the hospital. Some advice in old books are to keep your elbows at your hip bones - no chicken wings - and keep your legs straight. If you see someone come off a. horse it is usually because they curl up in a defensive fetal position. Wrong. That causes you to bounce off. Heels down, head up, elbows at your hip bones. One piece of advice that might have saved me many painful weeks of recovery is - never try to get off a bucking horse. Anyone have some more tips?

Good Grief, that's so untrue.🤦🏻♀️ You think that just because they are calm and unstressed, so they can learn, as they are here for schooling! If they were worried & running around scared, would that make you happier?! These horses are in fine health, mentally, emotionally, and physically! They are super lucky to be with such empathetic & caring trainers who can help their owners understand and communicate better with them. They're turned out to play and even get to go on beautiful, wooded trails, too! 🥰

Thank you. I'm even considering joining your group
😁😅😉
I am quiet experienced ridden from the age of 12yrs had my first horse when I was 14yrs .
So thank you again
😂😊
If you have had replacements or have a corroding hip socket can you do these exercises?
Very interesting, even for a non-rider. Does Emily have her own UA-cam channel?
What a nice horse. Horses in real life never look that calm. Cool.
Isn't this real life ?
My horse does, at least to the left. Still working on his relaxation in the canter to the right.
I've been hospitalised four times in my life. All of them were from horse riding. ;D
Links to Emily's content? Thanks!
Can I ask Emily if she has her own UA-cam channel? Also, what kind of certifications does she have, and how does one acquire them?
Hi I have a question, I have a 21 y/o horse. He is a reining horse and he has arthritis near his ring bone. A couple days ago his right leg kept on buckling. What do I do?
I LOVE Emily's Bay Roan, is he or was he a Mustang?
I really don't understand why have the reins so loose. If you have a problem with that or any horse you have very little control?
You are too funny 😅
😃👍
Wonder ? Do you have any tips for poor Olympic rider that fell off his horse while riding for the gold ?😮
Using a mounting block would seem to be a whole lot safer than bouncing around the side of the horse.
He is a pretty boy!
SOME ONE SAID YOU REALLY STAND ASTRIDE YOUR HORSE
The best way to not fall off ... don't get on ... lol
To NEVER fall off again? Stop riding!
😂
That is the most effective way but for most it is not the best way.
Nice session , but I cannot really follow your wife. We must ground handle horse mainly
LOL.
HAHAHAHAHA
Лошадь у вас еле живая понурая: смотрит вниз прямо убитая лошадей надо как-то развлекать :бедняжка: лошадь любит поскпкмть в поле и воду любит :парень красивый :а лошадь замученная неволей
Ryan and Emily thank you. Emily please more hip rotation and glutes tutorials. I followed your on-floor exercises and found I need to do more to stay stable on my horse. This was an eye opener from your professional viewpoint. Ryan, I do glean many pointers from your tutorials but it is nice to get pointers from Emily also.
