Jimmy I don’t think they moved the house, they just dug the basement later on when they added water and sewer and heat they needed space underneath the house to work. They stayed away from the outside of the foundation so they didn’t under mine the original foundation. Being a stone mason and restoring a bunch of old structures I have seen hundreds of houses done that way . Thanks for sharing
According to records found on a family tree on Ancestry, the tombstone at 11:36 was Polly Chittenden, born 5 February 1770 Guilford, New Haven, Connecticut, and died 26 December 1838 Durham, Greene, New York. Her husband was Curtis Baldwin, son of Abiel Baldwin and Mehtiabel Johnson. Curtis and Polly married on April 15th 1789. 8 children of theirs are listed, all born in Durham, N Y: Betsy, Samuel, David, Curtis, Polly, a second Betsy, Julia, and Anson.
A lot of people would see endless repairs and dilapidated buildings. Jimmy sees opportunities, shops, and old world charm. Property looks amazing. The views as well
With all that land you should consider doing some flower rows! For our farm we till up a good 3 rows about 20 feet long and plant native wildflowers in them. They help a ton with the local fauna for both bugs and birds! Plus it's really pretty and nice to setup a lawn chair and enjoy the sun amongst a sea of flowers too.
Its really too bad that the previous owner cut down all those old trees. Some of them were probably as old as the original house. It's also worth noting that the trees surroundiung a house on a farm style propoerty are there for wind breaks to diminish the effect of high winds during heavy storms and winter months. Now that property is effectively unprotected. @Jimmy, I hope you have an opportunity to plant some new established trees around this house.
Agreed, and the sooner, the better. Trees grow slowly, so give them as much time as you can. This home renovation will drag on for years and years--don't wait until the end to plant the trees.
Brent Hull is your guy Jimmy, for his expertise in period properties, and Richard from finish carpentry. It's going to be a fascinating project, whatever you decide to do with it.
The little hut off to the side would make a great honey house for an apiary. You could start keeping honey bees on that side of the property. What a beautiful renovation this is going to be I can’t wait to see what you do with it.
I loved how your partner took the shotgun parts with a grin! So funny! The property is beautiful and the graveyard is definitely a bonus. I throughly enjoyed your introduction and presentation. Thank you!
New Yorkers always have this vibe that gives me low grade anxiety like they are pissed off but not really and they are actually just having a normal day and that’s just their natural disposition. Love the channel, just found it tonight.
Talk about going back in time ? Looking forward to the finished product...I know will be an amazing place when you finish it...Before and after will be amazing to 👀 see 👍✌✅
This is going to be a fun ride. Your so lucky to live where old homes like this are plenty. Not in southeast Alabama. Mentally here is Tera down and build new
Welcome to the neighborhood! I watched the previous owner clearing the land - I thought it was to start a small farm. Glad the house will get some love.
Thank You Jimmy Diresta…your videos allow me to find solace in a hectic world…your appreciation for history and your drive to preserve and restore is commendable, touché sir, touché!
I was thinking exactly the same thing. I often say that a renovation is far more challenging than a new construction because as an owner you are divided between te desire to keep what is old and the obligation to keep your building standing. Laura knows something about it from what I’ve seen. I hope that Jimmy will find a nice name for this property and that he will not have any bad surprises (in French we say "falling on a bone" which seems perfectly appropriate in this case).
Absolutely love old historic places! Graveyards, to me, are the local histories! You can learn a lot of an area from tomb stones. I’m jealous! Thank you for the tour!
This would be an awesome UA-cam series. We would get to see more of your skills and craftmanship, and see the restoration of the place. I hope you do decide to do that.
Jimmy, Our family cabin in Williamsport PA was built in 1853 and the exterior walls are the same as you have there. They are 2" wood slabs stood vertically. The entire building sits on a stacked stone foundation which is still perfectly level. I look forward to this new series.
I have a dear friend that grew up in Williamsport. Graduated HS in the 60’s. Told of some classmates that still had outhouses! She wants to move back eventually
@@samanthab1923 We still have an outhouse at one of the cabins. We had another that was washed away in 2011 Floods which we did not replace. We used to have christmas light strung down to and inside the outhouse. I use to joke all the time it was the place that looked like christmas all year long, but never smelt like it.
Spray all those tombstones with D2. It is amazing stuff. Not harmful for the stones and makes them like new! If I owned the property, I would probably clean up the old cemetery first and leave the house go. I love old cemeteries.
Y just imagine jimmy making BBQ and a bonfire in the middle of the cemetery!!!! Jajajaj creepy as hell no way I am going to the party!! Jejej much love fro Puerto Rico 🇵🇷!!
My mother returned from a european vacation in the early 70's with a raft of brass gravestone rubbings. I'm pretty sure this practice has been stopped due to the amount of wear a steady stream of tourist would cause on gravestones, but in the case of your graveyard it might be something to consider to bring the beauty and historic significance to light. Potentially stunning wall art.
Jimmy been watching you for over ten years. I am so excited. Watched the episodes several times already. It's going to be insane fun. Congratulations. Hope to visit the house one day. Best of luck. Be safe.
Very kewl! With your skills and imagination, we're both in for a lot of fun ahead; I'll be watching. Thanks for sharing that great new purchase with us and some of your plans.
It's beautiful but overwhelming if you think about everything. In bite-size pieces I can digest it. I do love it! ........It would be a great "This Old House" season.
Amazing! The barn basement is my dream shop, love the wide benches next to the windows. You could make anything in there!! I gotta say though, flip your boat over. You want it sitting on it’s gunwales, not the keel.
Thank you so much as for me it’s like a dream come true as I have always wanted to have my own cemetery and I gardened at my cities huge cemetery but sadly not enough funding to keep it as it should have been. This will be my new favourite program to watch and I can’t wait to see the changes you are going to make as this property is so Devine and to be able to put in the trees you want as well is unbelievable. Exciting
Love videos where you talk about stuff. You have a POV and experiences that I’m not around a lot - so hearing about how you see things is interesting and educational.
My kids (and myself) love the Making Fun show. I got excited to find your YT channel. So, until the powers that be get their act together, we'll be adding this channel to our rotation!
I grew up a half mile from this place on Susquehanna turnpike just across from Mansard Ave where Teator Rd leads to. As kids we use to ride bikes over by there to go swimming at Browns hole. Myself and all of my friends were always so interested in the graveyard but we never went into it. I remember last year watching the previous owner clearing trees and burning brush almost every day on my way to a few jobs I had in Preston Hollow.
Good luck with your new adventures here. I remember that cellar in New York , smaller than your outhouse, where you began your you tube channel. Now you can have so much opportunities for the future projects. Love from Scotland 😁
That house is gonna be strong and comfortable when Jimmmy gets done upgrading it. Jimmy I hope you get good luck for freeing the bird. I know that bird will never forget about you.😊
What a FUN project!! Just to help - a Graveyard was normally on church grounds. what you have, my friend, is a cemetery...looking forward to seeing what you do to it!!
We bought a farm in West Virginia. The 1890s part of the farmhouse has similar construction to that of your new house. 1" thick tongue and groove planks that run vertically from sill to plate, and a layer of "Novelty Siding" running horizontally on the outside. "Plank Frame" construction, apparently popular across the northeast before building codes. 17 layers of newspaper were the insulation/wallpaper. The floor joists are 6" hand hewn beams. I need to crawl into the foundation space and run a support beam perpendicular to the joists. The floor is rather bouncy. Looking forward to your restoration/fixing up of your new property. So much potential!
@@MrClarkisgod Not necessarily true. Everyone has ancestors from hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Just because they don't live in the area, doesn't mean they don't exist.

Holy shit the property looked so much nicer with all the trees. Whoever removed those is a psychopath
Absolutely criminal
exactly my first thought
Yup. It’s all I could think about.
UGH
It did look better but all the trees looked dead. While the trees in the distance were still green. Maybe they were diseased.

Love that idea👍
Would be enjoyed by the deer too!
The house construction is called double boarding. It's just 2 boards staggered one in front of the other so they didn't use studs for framing.
I feel like I've been trolled. No way is this going to be a new SERIES! Can't wait! ❤
