I bought a Graveyard

- This is the first installment of the Graveyard House make over! This house was first build in 1793 (so I am told) as you can see it was gutted for renovation by the previous owner. This creates a blank slate for me and Howard (my Biz Partner) to make it any way I chose! In this series I will be tackling all the challenges it takes to rebuild this old house! Thank You and enjoy the ride!!!
love and respect!

Holy shit the property looked so much nicer with all the trees. Whoever removed those is a psychopath
Absolutely criminal
exactly my first thought
Yup. It’s all I could think about.
UGH
It did look better but all the trees looked dead. While the trees in the distance were still green. Maybe they were diseased.
If you see an old man wrapped in shredded linens, saying "return the slab", promptly return the slab.
But what’s his offer
"I got a baaaaaad feeling about this!"
😂😂😂
Jimmy I don’t think they moved the house, they just dug the basement later on when they added water and sewer and heat they needed space underneath the house to work. They stayed away from the outside of the foundation so they didn’t under mine the original foundation. Being a stone mason and restoring a bunch of old structures I have seen hundreds of houses done that way .
Thanks for sharing
It's like the house has defeated every DIY guy in the area and is now taking on the final boss.
Brent Hull is your guy Jimmy, for his expertise in period properties, and Richard from finish carpentry. It's going to be a fascinating project, whatever you decide to do with it.
This is the most I've seen Jimmy talk, even if you added up all the other videos he's ever done! I love it! He's a character.
I feel like I've been trolled. No way is this going to be a new SERIES! Can't wait! ❤
If you listen to his podcast he has been talking about it for months
@@rockstarfan886 apparently I dont.
Its really too bad that the previous owner cut down all those old trees. Some of them were probably as old as the original house. It's also worth noting that the trees surroundiung a house on a farm style propoerty are there for wind breaks to diminish the effect of high winds during heavy storms and winter months. Now that property is effectively unprotected. @Jimmy, I hope you have an opportunity to plant some new established trees around this house.
Planting new trees would be step one imo. The wide open space is very erie
Agreed, and the sooner, the better. Trees grow slowly, so give them as much time as you can. This home renovation will drag on for years and years--don't wait until the end to plant the trees.
I would assume that a previous owner sold the trees for lumber…
New Yorkers always have this vibe that gives me low grade anxiety like they are pissed off but not really and they are actually just having a normal day and that’s just their natural disposition. Love the channel, just found it tonight.
😂😂😂✊🏼✊🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🎄🎄 thank you!
The house construction is called double boarding. It's just 2 boards staggered one in front of the other so they didn't use studs for framing.
As my old Dad used to say when we passed a cemetary ," At least the neighbors are quiet... " I can't wait to see how you fix it up.
My dad always said confidently “this is the dead centre of town”
My dad always said that place must be really popular, everyone is dieing to get in there.
@@jeffjackson2871That’s the one I always heard 😂
A lot of people would see endless repairs and dilapidated buildings. Jimmy sees opportunities, shops, and old world charm. Property looks amazing. The views as well
When you buys a house without a foundation you are fairly nuts :) But will make for a great video.
With all that land you should consider doing some flower rows!
For our farm we till up a good 3 rows about 20 feet long and plant native wildflowers in them. They help a ton with the local fauna for both bugs and birds!
Plus it's really pretty and nice to setup a lawn chair and enjoy the sun amongst a sea of flowers too.
Love that idea👍
Would be enjoyed by the deer too!
The little hut off to the side would make a great honey house for an apiary. You could start keeping honey bees on that side of the property. What a beautiful renovation this is going to be I can’t wait to see what you do with it.
This is the expert DIYer's dream come true. Can't wait for this series..
“Jimmy’s Old House” series. Looking forward to it!!
This is going to be an amazing series. Seems like the NY version of Laura Kampf’s, Liselotte.
Can’t wait to come along for the journey.
I was thinking exactly the same thing. I often say that a renovation is far more challenging than a new construction because as an owner you are divided between te desire to keep what is old and the obligation to keep your building standing. Laura knows something about it from what I’ve seen. I hope that Jimmy will find a nice name for this property and that he will not have any bad surprises (in French we say "falling on a bone" which seems perfectly appropriate in this case).
@@th.l.7768 "Falling on a bone." I have got to remember that line!
Where in NY is this?
@@samanthab1923 Green County. I think its somewhere along State Rt 145.
@@tree_carcass_mangler Thank you 👋 beautiful country
The old country music worked well with this presentation !!! Almost a nightmare remodel !!!
"This old house, with Jimmy Diresta" can't wait!
Congrats! I'm sold, can't wait to watch more. That barn would definitely be an awesome maker space.
Such a cool property!!
I loved how your partner took the shotgun parts with a grin! So funny! The property is beautiful and the graveyard is definitely a bonus. I throughly enjoyed your introduction and presentation. Thank you!
I know where me and the boys are gonna ask to go fishing next!!!! Love the look of that house!
Spray all those tombstones with D2. It is amazing stuff. Not harmful for the stones and makes them like new! If I owned the property, I would probably clean up the old cemetery first and leave the house go. I love old cemeteries.
"I bought a Graveyard" Very on brand. The house and barn are just a bonus. 😂
Jimmy, that lower section of the barn would be perfect for a small microbrewery!
Jimmy, Our family cabin in Williamsport PA was built in 1853 and the exterior walls are the same as you have there. They are 2" wood slabs stood vertically. The entire building sits on a stacked stone foundation which is still perfectly level. I look forward to this new series.
I have a dear friend that grew up in Williamsport. Graduated HS in the 60’s. Told of some classmates that still had outhouses! She wants to move back eventually
@@samanthab1923 We still have an outhouse at one of the cabins. We had another that was washed away in 2011 Floods which we did not replace. We used to have christmas light strung down to and inside the outhouse. I use to joke all the time it was the place that looked like christmas all year long, but never smelt like it.
I could see and would watch an entire season of TOH. Hope Kevin is watching!
This would be an awesome UA-cam series. We would get to see more of your skills and craftmanship, and see the restoration of the place. I hope you do decide to do that.
Talk about going back in time ? Looking forward to the finished product...I know will be an amazing place when you finish it...Before and after will be amazing to 👀 see 👍✌✅
Glorious! Definitely plant some trees back! ✌️😘
You're definetly the right man for the job! The basement barn shop certainly has pottery shop vibes.
My kids (and myself) love the Making Fun show. I got excited to find your YT channel. So, until the powers that be get their act together, we'll be adding this channel to our rotation!
Thank you! thank you! 😊❤️
Welcome to the neighborhood! I watched the previous owner clearing the land - I thought it was to start a small farm. Glad the house will get some love.
Looks like a lifetime of projects and content.
That view on a patio in the shade... I'd never leave
It was like watching this old house. Waiting for the guys to show up and jump in and help you
Who DOESN’T want a house with a free graveyard? Those old stone grave markers are awesome. Congrats on such a great acquisition!
Ca va nous promettre une série de belles vidéos !! Merci Jimmy !!
Looks like a massive undertaking, or is it a grave error ;)
Ohhhhhhh my!
😂😂😂
I see what you did there...LOL😁😁🙃😉
This old house by Diresta, I'm so excited for this series!!
My mother returned from a european vacation in the early 70's with a raft of brass gravestone rubbings. I'm pretty sure this practice has been stopped due to the amount of wear a steady stream of tourist would cause on gravestones, but in the case of your graveyard it might be something to consider to bring the beauty and historic significance to light. Potentially stunning wall art.
I like the shape of the graveyard, its like someone layed a giant clothes iron there.
I like that your license plates have gone from “I MAKE” to “I MADE”. Well done
That house is gonna be strong and comfortable when Jimmmy gets done upgrading it. Jimmy I hope you get good luck for freeing the bird. I know that bird will never forget about you.😊
Amazing! The barn basement is my dream shop, love the wide benches next to the windows. You could make anything in there!! I gotta say though, flip your boat over. You want it sitting on it’s gunwales, not the keel.
15:00 That part is open as that is where they would load the hay from outside into the barn loft. At one point it had a door of some kind.
Probably the most talented makers on UA-cam now has a restoration project! Couldn't be happier!
At what point does 'grave robbing' become 'archeology'?
...asking for a friend.
LETS GET STARTET :D
Your friend should ask The British Museum.
Minimum 50 years, and legal permission.
Whenever any relatives who would complain are now dead.
@@MrClarkisgod Not necessarily true. Everyone has ancestors from hundreds and hundreds of years ago. Just because they don't live in the area, doesn't mean they don't exist.
Betcha this is just as big a project as 'Acorn to Arabella' !
I'm in for this Series , 4 Sure !!!
It's beautiful. Especially the barn and house... Even the "Hut" is pretty. So much potential
I can't wait to see the progress on this house and property!
Netflix would 100% option this as a TV show.
If anyone will do this restoration right it will be you sir ! I look forward to this journey !
Different content direction with you the central character. I dig it man.
Your new place is near where my mother's family has lived for the past 200+ years.
Love the opening, pulling in with the Benz, and the whole style with the camera man. Didn't even watch the whole thing yet.
I could watch this video a hundred times. I love house renovation videos. I LOVE Laura Kampf's series. I can't wait for yours!
I hope this series continues. The wife and I are having fun watching it. 👍
What a FUN project!! Just to help - a Graveyard was normally on church grounds. what you have, my friend, is a cemetery...looking forward to seeing what you do to it!!
Some of your best work Jimmy I love it when you talk to the camera love your personality in these videos
I hope you list all those graves on Find-A-Grave. One way to read those old stones is to fill the engraving with corn starch or shaving cream. Make a list, take photos. There may be people researching their family tress who have rellies there. And please plant trees.
Exciting! Such a pity all those beautiful trees have been removed. Looking forward to this series.
DOH - Diresta’s Old House
Can’t wait to see the end result and will watch it the whole way through!
Should make for a lot of YT and IG posts. Looking forward to it. Thumbs up!
I grew up a half mile from this place on Susquehanna turnpike just across from Mansard Ave where Teator Rd leads to. As kids we use to ride bikes over by there to go swimming at Browns hole. Myself and all of my friends were always so interested in the graveyard but we never went into it. I remember last year watching the previous owner clearing trees and burning brush almost every day on my way to a few jobs I had in Preston Hollow.
Your addiction has reached a new low. I can't believe you had to buy that whole house just for that one band saw. 😂 I can't wait to see what you do with this cool property!
Ask Brent Hull about the framing construction, he has an encyclopaedic knowledge of architecture, and construction.
Good luck, I'm looking forward to following the progress of your project 👍
Looking forward to it. Somehow have been missing your updates but glad to see you back in my feed..
One of the most fun past videos for me was your house your, the things you have are so interesting. I can’t wait to see what ends up here!
Good luck with your new adventures here. I remember that cellar in New York , smaller than your outhouse, where you began your you tube channel.
Now you can have so much opportunities for the future projects.
Love from Scotland 😁
If you are a gardener use that hay for compost, I Love how much shop space you have. They look like they were dead trees, maybe emerald ash borer
Good thing you’re a tinkerer, plenty to keep you busy there!
Man there is a ton of content on that property! Can't wait!
This is going to be a fun ride. Your so lucky to live where old homes like this are plenty. Not in southeast Alabama. Mentally here is Tera down and build new
Did anyone notice the aerial view from the opening shot of the graveyard, it’s in the shape of a boat? There are so many things that will definitely make more content for your channel but you are not getting younger Jimmy. We do expect to see more epoxy projects from those mummies.
No not at all. Thank YOU for showing us round. Can't wait to see what you do with it.
Oh man I cannot wait to see you breathe new life into this place. Someone else would have torn it down and started again.
Make no bones about it ,I’m really looking forward to seeing this series 😁
Ive been watching your posts for a while, this post is sooo good, it will have a million stories, cheers !
Damn Jimmy! You got yourself a real project. Can't wait to see your vision come to life!
here's an idea for you, you could cast from the grave stones in concrete, with some kind of alginate casting, which will not harm the original grave stones, and use them for the patio, one of my brothers is trying to get permission to do exactly the same in london, for a patio on his london home.
something unique.
I hope you do a youtube series where we can see all your work. I know it would be very interesting.
Your idea to renovate will be Amazing, can't wait you to start working on it. wish you good luck.
Hi @Jimmy my friend! This is going to be a really awesome project. If Aaron Mattia were still alive he would probably say "Jimmy what are you up to 🤣? But why not "! Greeting Bulat Schmiede from germany (Bulat the Blacksmith)😊🤙
The sideways 2x is back in the day without indoor plumbing or electric, there was no need to do it the way we do today. It keeps the walls thinner. Then lathe went over the 2x and plaster over that.
3:26 "make this a whole new bedroom and you can come in from the back" :D
You are so brave!!! Haha! Good luck friend.
5:37 "There's a lot of content in here."
I'll say. Looking forward to the, um, journey :) And also, the wide-angle/fisheye lens is good for the big view, but it also makes this investment property look even more like a circus funhouse with the curved walls.
Jimmy Diresta and Jesse Muller need to collab on this build! 🤔
Looked so much better with the trees
It's beautiful but overwhelming if you think about everything. In bite-size pieces I can digest it. I do love it! ........It would be a great "This Old House" season.
This is really cool. Someone call Kevin O'Conner!
How exciting!!! I love this kind of stuff!!!! Looking forward to the next video!!
Thank You Jimmy Diresta…your videos allow me to find solace in a hectic world…your appreciation for history and your drive to preserve and restore is commendable, touché sir, touché!
If you mist the headstones with water, it’s easier to read them. I discovered this up in Middlesex County when I discovered an old graveyard in the woods and was doing some rubbings and it started to drizzle.
so, that board framing style I think is called barge framing. I've seen some of it in the louisiana area.
I've seen interior walls built with non-dimensional 2x4s on the flat. I guess it makes sense if you consider there would be lath and up to 3/4 inch of plaster on both sides. That makes the total wall thickness approximately 4-1/2 inches, the same as standard 2x4 construction with 1/2 inch drywall.
GREAT GREAT BOUGHT , I LOVE IT , ITS AMAZING THE VIEWS, IF I WERE NEAR I AM GLAD TO HELP THE REMODELING , I WILL FOLLOW YOU WORK , EXCELENT PROJECT , BIG HUG FROM MEXICO 👍🇲🇽
Cool adventure, enjoyed it.
