I've been doing this for years. Something that I've started doing a couple of years ago, was to create "Themes", such as SteamPunk, or Water, or Cyber, etc. Then I create subfolders with people, clothing, props, environments, and so on. Then if needed I can sub-category down from there, but, I can put the items all in those categories, so when I'm building a scene I have all the grouped items together. There is also a glitch of some sort, where you will get multiples of the same item icons in category folders. If you delete one, it deletes both. I've even had up to three duplicates. It's annoying, but not a deal breaker. I also have 3 User databases in that folder, and I think that is one of the things that's causing it. But, if you delete one database, it gets rid of a lot of your work. I don't know why DazStudio is splitting and/or duplicating them that way. I wish there was a way to open them up in Notepad++ or CSV file and combine all three together to get rid of the dupes, but, there seems to be no way to do so.
Any chance this would work with Smart Tab. About to get a larger C drive. Would be nice to copy and paste my daz folder and then update meta. Redownloading years of daz...... uhg
So does this backup method save all my custom models I’ve made in blender and custom textures in photoshop or just my categories I’ve assigned them to?
No, Smart Content and Categories are database entries in Daz Studio. The backup Jay mentions will make sure those can be recreated. Your customisations are files, you'll have to back them up manually.
Hi thanks for the video. Please i have been trying to download daz studio for more than a week but stlll the download is not completing. I went to daz forum and saw many od such complain overthere and no response to any of the complains. You guys are cracking our heads. Why is your software so complicated to download?????? Why cant daz make the download easy like how blender and the others are easy to download????? Am trying again to downloa and if it fails once again, I might forego daz altogether and dont want anything to do with it.
The best way to get Daz Studio installed on your system is via Install Manager. It's a launcher app that lets you install the app, Starter Essentials as well as content you purchase from the store. Once downloaded, it will show a list of things that are necessary for the app to work. Once finished, you'll be able to run Daz Studio. This link should start the download for your operating system: daz3d.com/get_install_manager

I find that I cannot rename any of these sub-categories after I've created them. Is that normal?
