This one uses thicker parts for the frame, plus a larger diameter lead screw and backbone.
I did a strength test on this clamp and you can watch that video here:

That John, you just can't shut him up??
WOW, that is a GREAT clamp and pretty easy to build.
Thanks John!!! You really paid attention to detail on this clamp.
Perhaps the most soothing woodworking video ever made! Don't know and don't care if this is the "strongest" homemade clamp. It certainly is strong enough and it's beautiful.
John, what a video production! You certainly went to town. I am stunned at the effort that you have put in. Very well done!
The clamp is superb as well and easy to make. Thank you for sharing.
I'd be happy if the new Star Wars movie is only half as good as this video. Great job. 3 thumbs up.
It is interesting and very useful. Now do the same for his workshop! And beautifully shot video!
Originally from the northern US and moved south 5 years ago...but boy, does the crunch of that -20° snow bring back memories!
I was really waiting for you to look off into the distance with tears in your eyes towards the end there John with the inspiring music and all..
I'm glad to see you took the clamp test video as an opportunity rather than just as a competition.
seeing thick snow makes me jealous. down here in Cornwall we are here enjoying 15°C of sun...
The editing and photography on this video was amazing. Nice job, John.
Man, I wanted to click away so bad... Just wasn't sure I wanted to spend 8 minutes on a tutorial..... But after watching it for two minute I just couldn't turn it off. The way you edited this video it was just so nice and soothing to watch... Great job, you done good.
something about the music. I would watch this all day long. Oh and the clamp is great. Looks very strong.
I've had a really hard day. That calm serene build video was exactly what I needed. Thanks John!
Man John, you editing prowess will leave a guy awestruck.
The gauntlet has been thrown! Canadian Clamp Wars has begun...
KSFWG I'd say Canadian Christmas Clamp Challenge!
Wow there is so much more to those than I thought. Great work John.
If John was born in the 90s he would have demanded a trophy after Matthias's clamp beat his and never attempted to build a stronger one. The challenge of competition is one of the greatest motivators. Nice work.
Best John Heisz video ever? We need a strength test, but the video was perfect, regardless.
You make the construction of a clamp almost like a therapy session.
Merry Christmas from Downunder where today is due to hit 39Degrees C.
You live in a beautiful part of the world.
Thanks :)
Maybe if we compromise, I send you some cold and you sent me some hot :D
I could live with that.
We could definitely have some pipes to transfer temperature around the world! :D
Second time this week I am commenting that a wood working video is actually a short subject art film. The other is Frank Howarth's Christmas Ornament. Very nice, John.
wow, when i though, that woodworing video cant be more satysfying and artistic - boom u again did it John.
Thanks for watching, it was pure pleasure to dive into this clip.
I realised halfway through the video that in fact you're actually not making Christmas presents :D I forgot to read the title, the copious amount of snow in the beginning of the video and the relaxing, smooth music made me think of you being a Santas little helper. Great build by the way!
Not only is the product good but the video has been excellently crafted.....Artistic. Thank you John.
Cool video, great edit and the music made it almost Majestic. Great story mode. Really, really good one John
Thanks Roy :)
John, your videos are like serious therapy for my maker, artist, woodworker sole!
I really liked the style of this video. It really captured your craftsmanship. Two thumbs up!
That was a great video. At first I thought the song choice was strange but toward the end it really made the video. Nice camera angles too.
Awwww The great white north. Love how the snow absorbs the sound and how quit it is after a fresh snow fall.
Canadian summer? I love the new camera, John, that was money well spent. Your videos are so much nicer too, I really think you're growing. Keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see the next one.
Very nice clamp! I'm sure even Mathias would approve
"mumblemumble.....Three and a half turns on the dial........mumblemumble.....I'll show him....."
Finally a clamp I can build without any complicated jigs!!!! awesome video. keep them coming!
Not sure why anyone would dislike this video. It is a brilliant build and production
Good job! I do miss those Canadian winters ... for about a day.
can't say it's the strongest until matthias has tested it haha great editing
I say save the clamps until John's at Matthias' shop. Then Matthias can sacrifice a couple of his. :D
No one sets up video shots better than Heisz. (And Frank Howarth.)
Thanks :)
The clamp reminds me of reinforced concrete. Since concrete doesn't perform well in tension, we put steel (re-bars, that is) on the tensile side of the section, and let the concrete (or in your case, wood) do its thing on the compression side of the section.
Looks to be very strong. A nice, artful presentation. Merry Christmas!
Nice wrap-up/response to the last few videos.
One of your best videos John!
Looks like john has step up his clamp game
1080p 60 fps looks great! Very nice video. Wow!
Furious builds and then there's this. You, Sir, have range! Really good work on the clamp. The grain on that piece of maple is stunning.
It's a thing of rare beauty, the clamp and the video! Thanks John!
I really like this video style, almost therapeutic.
This is so much different than your "talky" videos its kinda amazing that they are done by the same person. Great filming/editing! Loved the project too!
Thanks!
I'm always amazed by the quality of your videos, please don't stop!!
B-roll classic! Nice calm video.
@Matthias: Please let John win next time otherwise we get stuck in clamping movies for the next decade :D
@John: I am convinced. Will try your design next week :P
I'm working on another clamp right now, actually, and the video will be up in a couple of days :)
We're witnessing the equivalent of a clamp space race.
Except there's only one contestant. The other one already inhabited Mars.
I couldn't have said it better myself. This clamp envy is taking over the channel :D
Very calming and captivating video, can't just figure out why.. (thumbs up)
THANK YOU JOHN! IM GONNA BUILD ME A COUPLE OF THESE!! THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO!!!!!!!!
John you are becoming a seasoned artist with your videos but damn man get some moisturizing cream on those hands. This is only the start of our Canadian winter and those things are going to be raw and bleeding by the end of January! Cheers!
I realize this video took hours of video edit , you've done a very nice job doing it.
Liked the way it flowed & the music was a nice touch
Loved the style of this video, John. Thanks for all you do.
Challenge issued Matthias...
Also the Braveheart music makes me want to shout FREEEEEDOM! But I'm not sure how that would play with my coworkers....
Beautiful video.. I think Matthias stepped on your ambition on the last clamps test. You have a great taste for music.
Beautiful. I appreciate all the work you put into making this video, and it was worth it.
What I learned from the video is that John cannot accept a loss and has to do anything/everything to reign supreme. 😃
Losers accept loss.
Winners learn from it and go on to make more awesome stuff :)
Classy video, John. And an appropriately classy comeback.
David Borgelt of course! It's a man thing!!
Thank you, Mr. Heisz. This "wooden clamp" video has reached such great production values that I think woodworking on the web has reached a new level. I especially appreciated the incredibly pleasant music without a loud, aggravating, thumping/thundering bass pounding and the wonderful lack of inane chatter. Also, your clamp is very nice. Let's see if Mattias can do better now! You're both Canadian National Treasures.
now convince Matthias to build a proper push stick :D
Yes! I love this video, music, and clamp! I was imagining this same flame that is wood with a rod in back for stability and strength! Now...I need to make one. Great work.

John Heisz Why is this video not in 24 or 30 fps? Why 60? I legit wanna know. Thank you in advance.
60 FPS is becoming the standard for high quality video.
Ah OK. Lost my camera in a house fire last year and have been discouraged to even keep up to date, being that I spent all my money on the house and can't afford a new set up now. But thanks so much for the update.
This is one of the best videos you've ever made and the music was spot on. BUT the gauntlet has been thrown I'd like to see Mr "Know it All" Wandel make a come back video. #ClampDown #MatthiasWandel
You're a man of many talents John - peaceful relaxing music, great camera work, close-ups and editing, workshop sounds neatly tucked in with the music. Loved the White Christmas-time opening shots, view of waste removal from stationary saw blade, and jar lid opening. Enjoyed the whole experience.
Great video... really nice clamp, the maple in it looks great. Absolutely loving the music too.... awesome 😀
best video i've seen from you to date. thank you
Beautiful video, John! I enjoyed it thoroughly!
Thank you :)
that was a very enjoyable build video with good relaxing music....
well done, sir... well done
You Sir, are have amazing talent and patience. Love how you put things together, its a thing to just watch perfection un-fold.
The sound track was phenomenal. Just the track was amazing in itself, I've never felt this way and had such an emotional experience watching table saw cuts, but the sound of the saw overlaid on top of the soundtrack added grit and intensity to the piece, like canons on the 4th of July! I was nearly in tears with the emotion of it all. And then the music climaxed as the project was completing and... Okay, in all seriousness, I really did like the video and the amount of time you spent making it really showed. Nice work. (And the clamp was cool, too.) Enjoying the rivalry--glad you guys are doing it. In all practicality both clamps are great and fine for any of our needs doing woodwork. Thanks, John, best.
Great vid, only critique has to be those elegant Wandell finger joints, then PLUS your backbone and all thread. Wow, would hold up a Mack truck with that !!!
It is like watching some BBC nature video. Informative, detailed with relaxing music. Very nice.
Loving your design with the thing that goes over the nut, the idea to use a washer on the top and inside is just genius! :)
Thanks :)
Very majestic video John.
I wonder how many videos it will take for him to get over Matthias's clamp beating his old ones lol. :P
Wow that video was relaxing great choice of music.
The crowd chants - REMATCH, REMATCH, REMATCH. They want to see the humble working man prevail !!
Very nice looking clamp. Well thought out. You are Inspiring me to bust a few out.
Uh oh Matthias John has a new long reach and it seems pretty good!!!
Very nice clamp and great work on the video.
Wow what a great video John - amazing shots and editing! Looks like the perfect way to spend a cold snowy day; especially having the time to not rush the build, leveraging your mad skills, and doing it right from start to finish. Booyah!!
Amazing video and editing on this; loved it. Keep it up john!
Thanks :)
really love the cantilevered compression. as usual for one of your proper builds this was beautifully shot and edited.
Wow, I really like this video with just the build & light back round music!!!! Thanks for the creativity in this build video.
I really like the filming and editing. It's so peaceful and relaxing
A soothing clamp build. I may fall asleep watching this tonight! Love it!
Beautifully gorgeous video!
GOOD FOR YOU JOHN!!! YOU SHOW HIM!!!
I love the simplicity of this, for those of us without box joint jigs!
This looks like all out war. Watch out Matthias.
One of my favourites so far, excellent production
*****
Beautiful piece of art !
Well, yours is certainly the best looking now... love the maple and the clear finish
That will for sure beat out Mathias' home made clamp.
Thumbs Up John! Great build as well as great videography! Thanks for inspiring me to build My version in the near future! Have A Super Week!.....Gus
Simple, yet awesome!
Happy holidays, John. And thanks for all the great content this year. Even though you've done this for quite a while now, this year was a marked improvement yet again. Because of various reasons I didn't always have the energy to go out and do stuff myself, but it was nice to watch your videos and get inspired about what to do when I get a chance again and pick up a few tricks of the trade too.
Jewan
Amazing how the music really sets the mood. You could have been building your Walking Dead weapon and I would have found it very relaxing. Great video!
Lol :) Maybe I should re-edit it with some kinder, gentler music :D
i find the music to be an unnecessary distraction
There's always the volume button.
the music is a really nice addition to the presentation - well done as usual!
What IS the Music? Who is it by ? Because I REALLY liked it. It helped me stay focused really well on what you were doing, even in a video. Some classical is like that for me to... I can put on certain composers and start working and be there still 3 days later wondering why I'm so hungry... Hahahaha ! Great Clamp idea, been needing something like these for years. Can't wait to build a few. Thanks !
I like the threaded rod reinforcement and cut out with spline. simpler construction for those of us without box-joint jigs.
Loved the presentation!
Maple is such pretty wood. Great video, John! I appreciate your engineering skills.
From all the people I am watching here on UA-cam you John are the only one that use this construction adhesive.
I would like to see in a future show a comparison between this staff and the plain old carpenters glue, I haven't use anything like that and I don't trust it.
