Don't say: "I prefer tea than coffee." It's a mistake. ❌😱

    Now you know how to speak English better. Do you often hear others use PREFER incorrectly? Let me know below, and see you next time! ⬇️⬇️⬇️🙂

    Well, I have a question
    What's the different between I prefer drinking Tea and I prefer to drink Tea ???

    • @sorrygregory-yourchannelto6658
      @sorrygregory-yourchannelto6658  2 роки тому +1

      Hey. The difference is so slight that it is ignored by most people, including native speakers. You can use both forms interchangeably. The below is probably the answer to your question:
      - We prefer TO stay in a hotel (eg. instead of staying in a flat)
      - We prefer stayING in a hotel (we have already spent some time in a hotel)

    Can we use prefer over??

    • @sorrygregory-yourchannelto6658
      @sorrygregory-yourchannelto6658  2 роки тому +2

      The use of “prefer OVER” in place of “prefer TO” (as in “I prefer apples over oranges”) is a relatively recent phenomenon (the expression only started gaining a little bit of ground in American literature in the 1940s and was almost non-existent in British literature until around 1980). Nonetheless, prefer TO 10x MORE common than “prefer OVER”.
      It is worth mentioning, however, that “over” has become quite popular in connection with “prefer” in the passive voice. For instance,
      "This policy is preferred to/over that policy."
      Still, prefer TO is much more popular than prefer OVER :) Hope it helps.

    I like tea more than coffee but coffee smells better than tea. Tea aroma is very subtle whilts coffee aroma is dominating. - pls correct me if I am wrong.
