HBK is the only guy who outplayed hulk hogan's politicking game and produced a match that even its ridiculousness, it is still worth watching. Nothing could beat HBK in terms of in ring prowess and producing a match.
Austin made the right choice not wrestling Hogan one on one in 2002. He would say different now, but we all know damn well Terry was never gonna put Austin over.
Even if Hogan refused to lose against Austin. Hogan won that political battle against Austin. Hogan went to have a classic against The Rock and went to win the title a month later because Hogan was getting pops like it was 1985. Austin started to fall into the mid card feuds and Austin was getting frustrated that he walk out on mid 2002.
@@sirnetflix7162 Yeah but the thing with the Hogan vs The Rock match is that it is not the best pro wrestling match not even close to top 200 but it is maybe the best sports entertainment match ever. Sometimes all you need are two icons larger thsn life.
Can't really say it was the right choice for Austin. Austin refusing that match meant he was in the mid card of that years Wrestlemania. And he walked out the Raw after Wrestlemania.
According to 83 Weeks podcast with Conrad Thompson, Bischoff said, “Hogan had creative control and only used his creative control card once.” I’m calling bs on that.
I would not be shocked at all, the idea of a heel actually being cool and badass was rare back then, let alone a heel that people would actually enjoy and maybe even think was better than the face. Hogan probably would've put the end to that real quick.
Kurt angle had once said on an interview saying that Hogan had no problem of tapping out to Kurt at king of the ring 2002 and that Hogan wanted to do what’s right for business just to politic himself over.
16:30 you just explained why I hate the money in the bank contract. Also, it does need to be said that yes, HBK was that guy, but when he came back he was the opposite of being that guy. At once point he got in an argument with creative because he had come back only to find out that they had done nothing to develope any up and comers. That was back when they basically had Cena and Orton trading the belt back and forth for what felt like years.
Austin vs Hogan at a Wrestlemania would’ve been HUGE. Maybe bigger than Rock vs Hogan at WrestleMania 18 but Hogan did not want to do the job smh, What we could of had.
I honestly don't know if Hogan VS Austin would've been better. I feel like the Rock was catching lightning in a bottle. I think it's a 100% better left to the imagination
I don't think Austin would have sold the same way Rock did in his match with Hogan. Plus there's the situation as to whether or not Austin gets booed in that match the same way Rock was.
The Bret & Hogan one is wild. These 2 guys would generate some insane dollars at the time & big paychecks for the both of them but Hogan decided not make huge bank by putting over Bret & was more worried about his ego. Yeah i get why Bret still holds a grudge....that was easy money down the drain.
Man I can never imagine a time period where Austin and Hogan would have that match up as a Wrestlemania moment even though the rock vs Hogan mania 18 was still an iconic classic. However when Hogan said that they should’ve had did the match years ago I was like yeah sure you would’ve brother😂😂
Also fun fact most of Randy savage world title wins/ losses have something to do with Hogan or him losing to hogan or to Flair. Hell even when he win the wwf or wcw title Hogan right there hogging his spotlight celebrating with him
It's no wonder Macho was real-life beefing with Hogan and made a diss track about him. Hogan refused to ever let him win clean for 15 whole years??? I'd expose the hell out of him too.
The Hogan/Michaels one still annoys me because Shawn was still a full time wrestler at the time and Hogan was just making appearances here and there barely revelant anymore. He did not need to go over and he also forced Shawn to turn heel when he didn't want to (which is why Shawn immediately went back to being a face after their feud).
Almost all those guys are hall of famers. If he had done business right, folks would look at him the way they look at Ric Flair, who made stars, including many of the same people on that list.
I honestly blame Vince for Hogan's devo mentality. It all starts with him. Especially when he had so much other great talent in the 70's, 80's, and 90's to build up properly. Guys like Macho Man, Iron Shiek, and Big John Studd could have had way bigger pushes than they got due to his selfishness. I also understand folks believe Austin didn't want to lay down for Lesner. But they way I have it understood was. He just didn't want to drorp the title to Lesner on a regular old tv match. He wanted to build towards dropping the title on a ppv. If that honestly was the case. Vince should have given Austin what he wanted. But... years removed. 1 moment where Austin is seen as selfish, is nothing compared to literal GENERATIONS of Hogan's selfish acts. On top of that, he goes and lies on the men who are no longer around to defend themselves against his trash stories too?! Smh Winning that lawsuit against Gawker kept him filthy rich. But I guess even that amount of money still isn't enough to shut the man's mouth up and just enjoy what should be his golden years of life.
Austin wasn't the WWE champion leading up to King of the Ring. The info is a bit muddled up. Austin didn't want to lose to Brock on a random episode of Raw leading up to the PPV. He wanted more weeks of build-up first. Assuming he doesn't walk out in June, he could have done the honours for Brock at the Vengeance PPV. That's more than 1 month to build that match
Iron Sheik and Studd were heels and in that era you didn’t build a company around a heel, and Savage didn’t join the company until after Wrestlemania 1, so he wasn’t even in the picture yet… Hogan was the clear choice because he was already getting a lot of press for his appearances in films and in magazines, he was prior to joining WWF already becoming huge and Vince wanted that as part of his push to go nationwide.
Crazy asf how Hogan had backstage control/Creativity over his character in the classic WWF Days and WCW 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️ what a asshole Hogan was🤷🏾♂️hell still is😭🤣💯
The Austin vs Hogan thing is funny to me, because both of them wouldn't have put each other over. It was going to be a clash of egos. I know everyone gets on Hogan's case because there's so many instances of not putting people over, but that doesn't let anyone else of the hook either. Keep that same energy, is all I'll say.
Austin himself said so. He said the match didn't happen cuz both of them didn't want to do the job. And that's also the reason Austin never came back after retirement like some others. He refused to look like an old man and put over younger stars. (I don't count his match with KO)
Let me tell you something hulk vs Rock was great but they had to convince Hulk to put over the Rock the original plan was to him to face Austin and they didn't want to lose to each other and couldn't agree on certain things plus Austin had a right not to lose the Hogan because when Hogan came into WCW in 94 he took over austins push because Austin was in line for the WCW championship and wcw was relying more on older talent to help with the ratings and because Hogan didn't want to put over a lot of people a lot of people went to WWF or ECW Austin being one of them because of that and being injured and Bischoff was quick to fire him
That isn’t true, Hulk only agreed to put people over if it made sense and would make money and if it didn’t weaken his character (how he makes money)… if you notice the ones he agreed to put over only Billy Kidman doesn’t make sense, not sure how they talked him into that… but other he put over were Warrior, Taker, Yokozuna, Arn Anderson, Paul Wight, Lex Luger, Sting (was forced to take the win), Goldberg, Kidman, the Rock and Lesnar, outside of the Kidman the others make sense as they don’t weaken the Hulk Hogan character.
@@andrewft31he never put Paul wight over cleanly and both times he played his creative control card to change his finish. First was Halloween havoc 1995 which he got changed to a defeat by disqualification and then in world war 3 where he was supposed to be eliminated cleanly by big show only for change the finish mid match to him sliding beneath the ring when savage won the match officially never getting eliminated as a result so he could hog the spotlight while savage celebrated his first wcw title win only for both of them to get booed because of his antics
Hulk only put people over if it didn’t make his character look weak, his character is how he makes money… notice he put over Warrior, Taker, Yokozuna, Luger, Paul Wight, Sting, Goldberg, Rock, Lesnar, these people make sense plus beating Hogan is suppose to be something special, if everyone did it it would lose its meaning… the only person he put over that makes no sense is Billy Kidman, it defies even wrestling logic but Kidman has a win over Hogan
Gonna be honest, Hogan only faults were not putting over bret hart, randy savage(atleast once) and the starrcade 97(sting should had won clean). People gotta understand that most of these stories are ppl that only heard it from butt hurt or bitter wrestlers(Bret Hart, Hbk) or people that dont like Hogan. If more wrestlers today demanded more protection for themselves and want the best booking we would have actual stars not just 2-3
The Starrcade thing, hate to tell you but Sting didn’t want to win it, he was having personal issues (drug addiction) and didn’t want the added responsibility so Hogan used his creative control so that Sting wins the match because to Hogan that was the only ending that made sense due to the buildup so the middle ground was using the Dusty Finish… Sting had to be forced to win the match

@@petersonofleo11 The match itself is nothing special, don't get it twisted. The crowd made it a memorable classic, not the work in the match.

Hogan refused to work with Jake Roberts in the 80's because he was scared of how popular he was becoming as a heel.
I would not be shocked at all, the idea of a heel actually being cool and badass was rare back then, let alone a heel that people would actually enjoy and maybe even think was better than the face. Hogan probably would've put the end to that real quick.
Jake Roberts is helluva unique, ego bolea is so scared that his popularity would be buried due to his character.
Actually Hogan had nothing to do with this, this was Vince cancelling the match… Vince has even admitted it was his idea to not gave the match
I knew Randy Orton was on this list. I mean, Randy Orton is the legend killer, but Hulk Hogan was like “Your no legend killer to me, brother!”
