Willow is very a symbolic tree for Ukrainians. * Metaphor - Willow is the Ukrainian Yggdrasil, the sacred tree from which the world was born (pre-Christian Slavic mythology). * Metaphor - Willow - a very hardy plant, very flexible, it is difficult to break (similar to the symbol of mistletoe in the Celtic mythology) * Metaphor - Willow is one of one of first (in Ukraine) spring trees (willow wakes up first from the soil, and is a symbol of the revival of Nature after death (winter like a "death" of Nture). And it is a metaphor for the revival of Ukraine after 70 years of Russian Communists and 200 years of occupation by the Russian Empire. * Metaphor - The lone willow is a metaphor that the countries of Western Civilization knew about the Holodomor, but continued to buy grain from the Soviet Union in 1932-1933.

The shock and horror that happened in Ukraine can happen anywhere if crazy tyrants obsessed with sick ideas are allowed to come to power. This is the main lesson that humanity should learn from this tragedy.

If you are interested you can read about Vinnytsia massacre, Sandarmokh, Bykivnia graves, Dem'ianiv Laz, Salina (tract), Chronology of Ukrainian language suppression. The Soviet government persecuted the Ukrainian intelligentsia: artists, scientists, activists, politicians. They were either sent to the Gulag or destroyed on the spot, later punitive psychiatry began to be used.
