Daytona USA 2001 - Three Seven Speedway with Javelin

- Just for fun, a play through of 777 Speedway with the secret Javelin car on Daytona USA 2001 for the Dreamcast (played using DEMUL, which means I can use my Driving Force GT wheel with it)
The Javelin is seriously impossible to control. It slips and slides all over the place. It's like trying to control a shopping trolley that's had a jet engine fitted to it across an ice rink. If I moved the steering wheel more than about 5 degrees to the left or right it automatically puts the Javelin into a slide that's normally unrecoverable - you can see it happen on the third lap, but amazingly I somehow managed to regain control. Because It's so easy to spin out I was finding it easier to just let myself collide with the walls and the CPU cars, rather the risk over-steering and end up with a race ending loss of control.

You might already know this by now, but the narrator of this game, Brian Uhl, went on to do the Super Monkey Ball games.
I love how you've hooked up a wheel for the sake of attempting to turn something that does not turn and it worked.
Yeah, using the wheel gives you that little bit of extra fine control. I was literally barely moving more than a couple of degrees left or right. Anymore than that would put the Javelin into an uncontrollable skid. I find the Unicorn car is almost as prone to go into uncontrollable skids as the Javelin.
@@MrThunderwing I'm horrified to think of using the Unicorn or this on the highest sensitivity. I mean, the Hornet's bad enough at the highest sensitivity...

Hell, next time someone tries to revive that show, use *this* for the Response phase!
I hope that these cars will be included for the 30th anniversary sequel of Daytona USA as console exclusive vehicles.
Dude, I will be genuinely surprised if Sega were to make a 30th anniversary edition of Daytona USA. They don't seem to care about this mighty IP of theirs.

Toshihiro Nagoshi was Design Director on this game and producer on F-Zero GX and AX, so it's probably not a coincidence.

I cheated though and used a VMU save file I downloaded. I couldn't be arsed with faffing about with all the conditions required to unlock everything.

Yes, the rocket car has a _very_ narrow range of left to right movement before it starts to go into a slide that's very hard to recover from (even without touching the brakes). It's easier to just have a slight wall collision and reduce speed that way.

wow how did you upscale it to HD!!!!?
I'm using an emulator which I think was set to 640 x 480. You can play in greater aspect ratios but I'd start getting slowdown, because DEMUL needs a lot of CPU and video card horsepower. The video was then rendered at 1920 x 1080 afterwards.
