At one point during my 'search' for a career, I thought I would apprentice with a neon sign maker. I found a shop, made arrangements for partial support with a government retraining program and then all that was needed was to have the shop owner sign the paperwork. When he found out that he would have to pay me minimum wage he balked because in his words: "Why should I have to pay you when it's my time, my glass, and my gas?" And that was the end of my nascent glass blowing career but I never forgot that phrase, "...my time, my glass, and my gas."
The amount of misinformation one individual can spout in a single comment astounds me. Well, firstly, how are they garbage or bad for health? Neon is a inert, _noble_ gas, it is chemically irreactive as it has a stable amount of chemical potential energy, thus, it doesn't have any effect on the health of your body or in the environment. If you're referring to the glass tubing's recycleablity, be it known that it saves more than 300~ kg of CO² being released into the atmosphere, and it isa great industry, as the material can be transformed into a variety of products. To your second claim, if they never had been invented, important chemical and physical knowledge would never have been discovered, plasma displays would also be impossible, and a multitude of things wuld simply not exist, reducing the overall quality of life of people.
Do you have a favorite tube sizes/ diameter to work with? and clear or colorized? I think being a layman to this art, those were silly questions. now that I've gained a little more understanding of the topic, I would be more curious what gasses you like the most, and what effect is one of your favorites, discharge / low pressure setups, etc.
Neon signs and lights are so cool and can really brighten the atmosphere of a place but they have become so expensive that people are forced to switch to LED or not buy them at all. I think if the price for them went down, they will start reappearing in streets and businesses.
I doubt that will ever change. Custom neon lights are work intensive and take hours - there is no getting around that. LED is quick and easy - it's just circuit boards - hence the much cheaper cost. Neon certainly gives a MUCH better result than any LED sign i've ever seen
@@pascalecnto68 ive seen a lot of companies do neon signs of these flexible led strips that you can bend however you want which takes less time, effort and cheaper materials but are still $500 so I take back what I said because it’s expensive either way
@@pascalecnto68 I haven’t seen one in rl but from what I’ve seen online they look pretty neon bright to me and I’ve seen a lot of influencers and famous people get them as well and from pictures and videos they look really bright
I wish there was like one documentary that actually talked more about the concept of neon lights and their history and what they mean to society blah blah blah and all that.
Q. Chen true. But the technique they use and the amount of work and skill that goes into this makes it worthy of that price tag. :) it’s definitely an investment but these lights can last a really really long time and at this point, are pretty unique to have since most places have moved on to less expensive options. But I feel ya, I’d rather buy a car than a fancy neon chandelier as well ;)
where the fuck is the ZEN stuff coming from out of the blue........... yeah neon really zen really THE thing i think of when thinking Yoga and zen crap. .... oh no not really
Did anyone tell this guy neon is dangerous inefficient and bad for the environment, it contains mercury. Does he knows that LEDs are a lot easier to work with and less risk of injury and environmental impact, is this guy still living in the 60s?
Neon lamps do not contain mercury, they contain neon. The mercury ones are usually called fluorescent lamps. And you miss the point completely, this is not about efficiency or safety, it's about making beautiful things.
Finally, a stoner who still got his priorities straight.
Amrithanand finally woke up and able to read this lit comment, just to continue searching something, just something on UA-cam..
these guys would kill it in the custom watercooling business with that glass bending skill
What you watercool with glass tubes????
Interesting, they did not use aluminium, thanks.
Not all the people know how much work there is behind a neon work, thank you for sharing this video!
I still think that $2800 for that puny little piece they showed is a ripoff.

"...my time, my glass, and my gas." - He sounds like an ass, but I think you had to pass.
Seems like he should have been running a school and not an internship.
miss seeing neon lights..usually its LED now

Nacho TV I agree Nacho!

How to make ham, first you soak in a salty brine then smoke until cured. It does look relaxing and the creativity of the light artists is excellent.
I just found neon lights more attractive than the cold LED
Where can i get the neon lights for the use in a psychedelic event ?
What was the name of the music?
THIS IS SO SATISFYING
Awesome video, very cool video, I thought the music was apt and worked well.
me too. i think the song in the middle was by Nils Frahm, but not certain.
A Goku neon sign would look dope 💯 🙌🏻😁
very high quality production. cool stuff
Las Vegas is such a neon-passionate town! Brightness beats the fuck!
I bet a chinese worker sees this and laughs.
That's not a fair comparison. We can't have slave labor in the West like China can.
3:30 name of music?
Loved it, but the music was a bit loud in places
Christian J. Rowe OIE
Lindo demais eu também sou profissional do neon aqui no Brasil
Now I know why my neon collection, 20 pieces and counting cost so much.
$2800 for that piece seems ridiculous though.
I'm surprised you haven't made one yourself at this point.
3:27 why was this sequence needed. like dude its a spaghetti light.
1:26 sounded like a portal gun
I wish there was like one documentary that actually talked more about the concept of neon lights and their history and what they mean to society blah blah blah and all that.
I'm making one, hopefully it will be out next year.
Very cool.

Good music video but the narrator was too loud
If I were to go there, my dress code would be so strict!
Awesome!

just an ad?
Everything is an ad.
Joep van Aert a tide ad
No? The video explores a concept that an artist is very passionate about. Also, it’s just a cool process in general
Wow!
I would have thought it would cost more than 2800 tbh
Plot: hippie makes lights. Not just any lights, cool & retro neon lights!
Matt is brillant ,vid
wow $2800 dollars for a lampshade shape. At that price I expect it to be symetrical. Not nearly.

Make meth pipes jk 🤣
You will be out of business very soon considering LED strips are cheaper, better, easier.
I wonder if any idiot actually bought that $100 lamp for $2,800
100 dollar, lol :p
On a side note I think the 2800 is quite steep.
it get it that he works real hard and all that but he doesn't make any sence when he speaks
Really bad background music mix, just tell the story, stop with the 'Hero' music crap.
Yeah... men shouldn’t have pig tails.
