If you actually didn't know, the bottle that looked like blood is a merbromin solution used for antiseptic purposes, which was very available in Switzerland but isn't sold there anymore because it used mercury
So like iodine?
@@gabeboyd5528 It basically had the same use, but it was easier to obtain in Switzerland at the time it was used. It's since been banned in several countries because it's mercury based and mercury poisoning was a concern, so now iodine or other solutions are the go-to.
Someone else here mentioned it is also known as mercurochrome. I remember as a child in the U.S. preferring it to tincture of Iodine as it was painless while the tincture stung and burned when applied to an open wound.
Ah, see. And there’s me thinking it was Lugols solution. I have some at home and it’s of a similar colour.
I deadass thought it was iodine by the way it was stored in another case
I know French and paused before you told us what things were to figure it out myself!!
still no candy. 😢 *sighs in hobbit*
just when I think you can't get any cooler you bring out the ✨secret door✨
but why hide it, no one besides yourself will know were it is in an emergency
@@Haydenwern4113No one knows how to use it if it’s in a different language, they probably have medical supplies that they actually use somewhere else
I love that they all perfectly fit in and entirely different container 🤩
the red and blue pencil is actually a common german school supply, used in the first few grades to learn grammar and pronunciation basically using blue for one syllable, red for the next one etc. It’s helpful but pretty annoying changing sides all the time.
Still no candy imagen your in war and a guy is afraid of needles
Doctor: I’ll give you a candy
Soldier:ok..
Doctor:good boy
The reddish liquid was probably iodine
All of these just scream Switzerland. The three languages, the font, the tiny swiss coat of arms… It might be because i’ve seen these before here in switzerland but they just feel like home.
I'm wondering if that Coramin is even legal to own...
In the past, amphetamines were all the rage in military medicine.
Eat all of it has to be good for you since it’s a medics bag
soap is important...
The ampoule before the pencil looks like providone-iodine complex solution (disinfectant) to me.
So in short you got a cauterization kit? Cause that is what I'm getting from this...I might be wrong though 🤔
i can imagine the sound of bombs that is why there are ear plugs but blood (????)
Can i feed them to my mouth? Asking for a friend.

If used, replace: Nikethamide, it's toxic dose is very close to the therapeutic dose, so it is not currently recommended for widespread use. All bandages. Merbromin, it can cause mercury toxicity and/or death. Alternatives lacking the toxicity of merbromin are silver sulfadiazine and gentian violet. I personally would replace the soap, I don't think you have to. Earplugs.
If you plan on using those as material for real emergencies, label them and replace what is needed. Which is pretty much everything. You never know, though. If you want good supplies, just get all that but new and not toxic (if it is), and some chocolate+ice (for wounds and too keep the chocolate from melting.)

The writing is in German, French and Italian, which are all national languages of Switzerland (along with Rhaeto-Romanic, which a handful of people still speak in the east, but to little to be included in the labeling). The German name comes first in the labeling of your medical kit, probably because it origins/ was made for someone from the German area :)
It said the city name Flawil as the production site on one of the labels. That's in the German speaking part. I'm not entirely sure but likely Canton Zürich.
@@AppleHeinz not too far from Zurich, but Flawil is actually in the canton St. Gallen :)

for those curious, the blue and red pencil is just that, a pencil that has 2 sides which use different coloured writing, extremely useful during many things and in this case, writing down information and colour coding it for notes, relay or other needs is extremely useful during wartime instead of having to use 2 different pencils
the rest of the stuff seems to be bandages of many types (including bandaids aswell), gauzes, disinfectants, cleaning stuff, pins of different times etc.
These specific colors used to be common for editing and proofreading on paper. The red was for first drafts (typewritten or handwritten) because it’s easy to see. The blue is for marking up final (especially typeset) drafts, because it won’t show up on a photocopier or most photographic processes - so it doesn’t ruin the page. Maybe they included one because it was a widely available colored pencil.
I’m guessing that pencil might have been used for triage. Red dead, blue treat.
Wait, making notes in a different colour is actually beneficial? And I thought my grade 1 writing teacher was full of baloney!
@@davejones9469 colour coding!

Grey tin roll with pink and blue rolls: Heftpflaster=bandaids;
Coramin: Google says it's medicine for signs of fatigue during physical exertion;
Rectangular squishy package: Verbandpatronen=bandage cartridges;
tin box 1: Gazekompressen=gauze compresses; tin box 2: Seife=soap; tin box 3: Sicherheitsnadeln=safety pins + Verbandklammern=bandage clips;
"four and three packs of these": Gazebinde gepresst=gauze bandages compressed;
blue package: dreieckiges Verbandtuch=triangular bandage cloth;
white packages: elastische Binde= elastic bandage; hydrophile Gazebinde=hydrophilic gauze bandages;
red Fluid in the little bottle: Solutio Merbromini=Mercurochrome=Antiseptic (contained mercury);
blue and red pencil: no idea;
writing on the matches: outside: "Militär Kantinen"=military canteen; inside: "so gut... weil aus Holz"= so good... because made from wood;
giant white plastic box: Verbandwatte= bandage cotton;
I hope it helps someone :)

As a Swiss person it was very interesting to see what our medical supplies looked like back then and what kinds of things were used during the war! Regarding chocolate (even though its not related to the medical field), in Switzerland there are official guidelines about what to pack in an emergency backpack in the case of evacuation - one of the essential items listed is chocolate :)
It's energy and morale boost multifunctionality earns it a place in any pack bigger than a fanny pack.

@@-Dez- In another commentary thread above this one, someone translated. 😊
@@nozee77 Thank you!
@@-Dez- first aid supplies. mostly bandaids and such things
It's cool to see they included all the main languages on the boxes! I speak Italian so based on what it's written the blue and pink things at the start are bandaids, the blue rectangular boxes contain "triangular" tissues (don't know what that's for, maybe as a bandage alternative or to save space?) And the red vial contains an antiseptic solution 😊
if i remember correctly from first aid training the tiangular things are less to put directly on a wound and more for general protection of an already treated area. Theyre also huge so you can use them anywhere from protecting a wonky finger bandadge to holding a broken arm in position
@@nelegrund5041 yeah! I recently just graduated a first aid class(like, last week recent lol) and triangle bandages are used to hold arms still and create a splint :3
@@nelegrund5041 in my first aid class they also taught us that they are good for securing objects that have pierced through a person if they are large enough. (Good for limbs).

TF2? XD
Since I saw a comment wanting translations of what's written on these medical supplies, I tried my very best to translate from German (native language) to English:
Heftpflaster - Adhesive tape/bandaid
Coramin (stimulates blood circulation and breathing from what I read online)
Verbandspatrone - litterally translates to bandage cartridge, so some kind of bandage/gauze roll
Gazekompresse - gauze dressing pad
Seife - soap, but that's obvious
Tin box with "Sicherheitsnadeln" and "Verbandsklammern" - safety pins and bandage clips
I could not see the lable of the long gauze packs unfortunately
Hydrophile Gauzebinde - hydrophilic gauze
Dreieckiges Verbandstuch - triangle shaped bandage cloth
Elastische Binde - elastic gauze/bandage
Verbandwatte - bandage cotton
You're fantastic thank you!
What were the pink and blue ones
@@JamesTDG the adhesive tape, it was inside the container of the tape.
Dang now I can’t use my knowledge of German to do this 😭 thanks though this stuff is cool
That's what I gathered from the French, too. The long gauze packs look like another size of the hydrophilic gauze

The blue things I think are those swaddles for when you break your arm.
Coramine is still available today, and is a nicotine derivative. Climbers use it, but you can't use it in professional sports.
That red stuff goes on wounds to stop them going bad.
Sadly, no candy. You could make your own version, and take it to the movies. I think I would.
It’s not just for that they’re actually very versatile, in first aid lessons they taught us how to stop bleeding, bind stuff with it and I lot of stuff I mostly forgot 😅
Don't know if is useful or not, but
Translation from Italian + some things I found:
1) metal tube with red and blue thing: "cerotto adesivo", "sticky bandaid". The blue one is 4cm × 1¼ m(?) (1.6in × 4.10ft) , the red one 5cm × 1m (2in × 3,3ft)
2) Coramin apparently is used to make you breathe if you have damaged lungs
3) "cartuccie per fasciature", literally "bandage cartridges" although I think the corret English term is "cohesive bandages"
4) "compresse di garza al vioformio", gauze patches with clioquinol, an antibacterial drug
5) well... soap
6) "spilli di sicurezza"="security pins", and "fermagli per fasciature"="bandage clips"
7/8) only written in German and French but I think "bande de gaze hydrophile" means "hydrophilic gauze bandage" the 4 big ones are 10cm × 10m (3.9in × 32ft) and the 3 little one 5cm × 10m (2in × 32ft)
9) "fazzoletto triangolare", triangular napkin
10) benda elastica, "elastic bandage"
11) "benda di garza idrofila" "hydrophilic gauze bandage"
12) well... earplugs
13) iodine I think
14) well... pencil
15) well... matches
16) "cotone idrofilo", "hydrophilic cotton"
17) only written in German and French again, I think something hydrophilic and sterilized but I don't know what

It is though?
Scott, the glass ampule doesn't contain blood. it's a vial of Iodine, you cover it in gauze and squeeze it to break the ampule.
it's an old way of storing iodine, a disinfectant still used today.
I’d be surprised if it contained iodine given that it’s labelled “merbromin”. It’s still a disinfectant though.
Ooo, yo uso de ese para curar los abcesos de mi gato y como enjuage para unas heridas de la boca, es muy útil 👍
@@ragnkja yeah for those curious but too lazy to Google: Merbromin is a super potent antiseptic containing both MERcury and BROMINe. It used to be used quite widely because of its effectiveness at killing bacteria and long lasting effect. It also dyes your skin deep red, which makes it really easy to see if you've got full coverage, but also takes ages to wash off. It was eventually banned in most western countries because of the mercury content and a lack of recent safety tests.
In do think it's more bromine and not iodine in which case : Scott, do us a favor and don't break that ? Pretty please ?

Paracetamol exists in fizzy tablet form, to dissolve in water, and those taste absolutely horrible.
That was interesting. It’s mainly a first aid kit. The packages are printed in the 3 official languages of Switzerland, German, French and Italian. They contain mainly different types of wound bandages and disinfectants, for example the 2 blue things contain triangular bandages (Dreiecktuch) for broken arms and such and the glass ampoule contains merbromin, a red antiseptic solution you can put on minor wounds and scrapes.
Interesting...my thought was that the ampoule contained iodine. And perhaps no surprise, iodine is also used as a disinfectant for cleaning minor wounds and scrapes.
Mercurochrome

As everyone in the comments already explained, yes the text is German French and Italian. I googled what the red substance in the tiny container was. The chemical Merbromini was used to treat small wound like scratches, burns, ect. It was also used for other kinds of wounds like disinfecting the umbilical cord. Be assured that it's not blood but it will turn the skin red and won't come off after washing multiple times ( it will probably go away but not right away). Hope that this helped.
