Yes I do believe Tepper told Canales to bench Young because he wants his franchise to look a little less like a laughing stock in the NFL. Tepper is also the kind of owner that seems like he makes all the decisions about the team but wants none of the recognition for it especially when it goes bad.
It makes no sense for Tepper to bench Bryce given his investment in him. You think he likes the PR hit he gets from this decision?
@@unc54 Tepper is the same guy who fired both Rhule and Reich with multiple 8 figures left on their contracts. He's clearly temperamental, impatient, and egomaniacal.
Meddling owners are why some teams are hot garbage.
clear example look at the bengals ownership
Quote of the day right here
Rich is being a little dense here
I think Rich is sometimes a little dense about this sort of thing but I think both he and Samson make decent points. Either way, Tepper is a meddler and a trainwreck.
Rich knows the owners pay his NFL network salary lol…. Gotta talk about it, but he can’t say it out loud
He's trying to spin it as a controversial decision but it isn't one. Yes there is a large sunk cost, but so what. Crying over a sunk cost isn't going to make him a franchise QB
This is where I think Rich is being a little phony. It's in his best interest to maintain relationships with the owners of the NFL so I believe he's less inclined to trash and very trash-worthy owner.
@@wholetthewolfout I mean if anything benching Bryce points to Tepper not meddling because Tepper of all people knows the investment who put into him and he knows that when news breaks he'll be blamed because he's an easy scapegoat.
Is Eisen being remotely serious here? There is no way that a rookie HC is making that decision. This is a decision made by ownership. Tepper has a history of meddling and being short tempered. He fired a Super Bowl winning OC in Frank Reich after less than a season.
He also got rid of Steve Wilks after he turned around Rhules mess
This is where I think Rich is being a little phony. It's in his best interest to maintain relationships with the owners of the NFL so I believe he's less inclined to trash and very trash-worthy owner.
OK, but have you considered the possibility that Tepper is listening to the criticisms of him being too "hands on" and so has given Canales free reign to make team lineup decisions? As much as Tepper is short tempered, he is also egotistical, and benching his first overall draft pick two weeks into season 2 doesn’t exactly make him look good.
You’re wrong
@@beingandtime “benching his #1 pick doesn’t make him look good” neither does firing a coach after 11 games, or firing a coach with a multi year extension that he just signed, or picking up Darnold’s fifth year before he played a down for you and then benching him before he played that fifth year, or firing your interim who’s turned the franchise around mid season. At some point panthers fans will stop trying to give Tepper the benefit of the doubt lmaoooo.
How is the owner not a HUGE part of this?! Why would a coach bench a QB in week 2 unless the back up is someone young that you believe in. Andy Dalton is none of those
Bryce has regressed. He's beyond terrible. He needed to be benched. Any person who actually watched the games should say the same
No way on earth Canales changed his mind overnight from looking at film of Bryce Young. Tepper made the decision to bench him.
Have you watched the film of Bryce. Dude doesn't even look like he can be a backup.
OR Canales was lying to media about what he saw in Bryce - possibly truth in the middle.
It sounds like David Teppers style .
Rich really seems off with this sort of stuff...no shot Tepper didnt sign off on this
I mean every owner would need to sign off on a move like this. It's a franchise-altering move. But that doesn't mean that it was Canales' decision.
Rich is a shill for the Network, he can't say certain things.
Doesn’t matter who made the decision Bryce DESERVED to be benched.
That fast?? Like QBs in the early first round don't get benched this quick
@@benburnside5049 it has happened before. The issues is the tape doesn’t lie. Bryce has bad mechanics , poor decision making , and is having issues reading the defense. I am sure last year rattled him and that’s not his fault however the OLine the first two games is graded 5th in pass blocking in the NFL. Bryce looks incredibly uncomfortable out there and keeping him out there is not going to change it.
@@benburnside5049 He has a worse QBR of Jamarcus Russel with a top-5 performing o-line. He deserved to get benched.
Much respect to the coach. Saying I’m going to do what is best for the team. Fire me. Coach has to win.
Next year Tepper will draft Shedeur Sanders & hire Coach Prime .... oh, like he won't
He won't. But i hope he drafts Shedeur and runs him out of the league within 3 years so we never have to hear of him again.
Who said Shedeur would show up and not pull an Eli, go back to Colorado and re-enter the draft in 2026?
Any top tier college QB prospect is looking at the mess in Charlotte and thinking that there's no way they would want any part of it.
Unfortunately I think you have it right. The next worst decision.
If we drafted Sanders Id stop watching football.
Dave Canales watched the tape. I don’t understand how anyone could watch the tape and think “yeah this kid will get better and help our offense produce the way we imagined it to”. No. Bryce is absolutely terrified to throw past his line of scrimmage, with a better O-line and better offensive weapons. Sure it could be this current coaching staff that made him worse but its much more likely that everything that happened last year ruined his confidence. He is a cerebral QB, and possibly the farthest thing from an athletic QB, with a broken confidence. Even if my dumbass was the coach I would start Andy.
idk how this is the only person with this take when it's clear as day. Tepper is the worst owner in league history. This is obviously his call😂
So if the Panthers start looking good with Dalton are you going to give Tepper credit? Because according to you this is his move.
it's somehow more likely that the year 1 coach in week 2 was able to convince the owner to bench his #1 overall draft pick QB, than it is for the owner - who is known for making knee jerk decisions like this - to have said to pull the plug? C'mon Rich you're being disingenuous now. I get that there may be some conflict of interest going on here, but accountability matters. Those fans deserve better quite frankly.
The Panthers are fucked until Tepper is gone. They will never win under him. End of story.
I mean its definitely a possibility the coach was solely responsible in benching Young, but I just don't find it likely given Tepper's track record.
If it was Tepper, then it's ironically the smartest decision he's ever made.
Maybe so, but then it makes his decision to go with Bryce over CJ equally as stupid and idiotic.
Rich , you know damn well the owner called Canelas and said bench the kid now!
rookie coaches don't make that decision
Why does Rich find it so hard to believe that David Tepper was a part of this? We all know his reputation of getting involved in things and being a hot head.
Carolina will have the number 1 pick and will get their guy next year.
You don’t double down on bad decisions and if the locker room are saying that your QB isn’t up to it then you move on!!!🏈🏈🏈
The line has protected well and the receivers have gotten up the last two weeks. Watch the tape. Bryce is missing guys, not adjusting to blitzing looks, not making good reads and jump passing/throwing picks. At some point you have to put a guy another guy in there to see this offensive system function.
It’s all good we just need to tweak a thing or two, Like maybe new ownership, an entire new scouting department , a new general manager, maybe 20 good players, a new stadium. Cheaper beer prices. Like I said just a few minor tweaks.
Genius some things can't be fixed
Rich has to put on the Shield logo and act confused. I get, man. I’d do the same thing. Don’t risk it
I think Rich is trying a bit too hard to find out or justify what happened with Bryce Young. Bryce Young has problems and it is clear this QB needs way more time or need to be with another team.
Needs a fresh start with another organization, the only way that he can salvage any sort of playing career in the NFL.
I believe the technique being used here is sarcasm
We need a new owner
How is Rich ignoring reports that Frank Reich wanted Stroud and Tepper want Young.
This entire conversation shows the issues in Carolina, even with the horrific scores and benching of Bryce Young, the talk of the town is still whether Tepper is involved with the football decision making, again. And now Bryce gets to stare down the cloud of conflicting information from the bench, not knowing for certain if his coach, or his duplicitous owner pulled the plug on him. I’d love for anyone to take some accountability and speak some truth around the building. Panthers are football Chernobyl and everyday we are beholden to its misery. Can’t wait to get a 3rd rounder or some bs for Bryce in less than 12 months
Its not crazy rich trust me
I dont think this is how it went down at all. Canales was on the verge of losing the locker room, he had to make a change
Tepper is the worse owner in decades. Thanks for ruining an entire franchise. This is what vulture capitalists do.
So the Commanders' owner gets forced out just over a year ago, and Tepper is suddenly the worst in decades? Give me a break.
Rich is a star-worshiper. He's ready to pay Bryce $60M because "that's where the market is" and "he's next up."
Two things can be true. Tepper meddles and makes impulsive decisions AND Bryce threw at least three jump passes last game and can't make throws he made in high school any longer. Was it the wrong move ultimately? Would Young have corrected things with more time on the field?
David Tepper is 90% of the problem, and Bryce Young is 10% of the problem in Carolina. First, owners who think they know about a sport (unless they played in a sport) don't know what they are doing. Tepper made the decision to draft Young at about the same time he hired Frank Reich. Well, Reich didn't last half a season. But that's another story. Tepper is showing that he is seriously incompetent. He makes decisions he can't comprehend. Now, let's get to Young. When you look at elite QBs of the past (Peyton Manning, Phillip Rivers, Dan Marino, etc.), they showed something that Young as NOT shown....leadership qualities. Even former Panthers QBs Jake Delhomme and Cam Newton had take-charge leadership traits. The Panthers rallied around them. Young looks like a broken man in Carolina. he doesn't exude confidence. Young may have excellent talent, but unless you can command the huddle and take charge, the team will not (and has not) respond to you. Andy Dalton will not take the Panthers to the playoffs, but maybe he can light a spark that can make them competitive.
How to fix Bryce Young: make him grow 6 inches.
Tepper should flip his team for a nifty profit and move on to his next venture to screw up.
They don't sit, prep and develop QBs anymore. They all want success now so the development has been passed down to college teams that run pro-style systems. Sometimes that works but more often than not nowadays they just aren't ready yet. Tbh this has also been part of the reason for the rise in inflated QB salaries, leaving little headroom to pay the rest of the team. As a league they gotta do better
Of course Tepper was adamant Bryce was out! He saw a Panthers fan with a bag over his head. He saw Panthers fans booing and gesticulating! Tepper was done with the humiliation. We gave you an o-line, new targets, and a new QB-whisperer coach. And you haven't thrown a TD in 8 games? Tepper was totally D O N E.
More likely other players let Canales know he was losing the locker room. Last game, rest of team was not happy about Young
Samson thinks exactly the way I do. We all know how impetuous he is, why is this hard to believe?
Because it logically makes no sense for Tepper of all people to bench Bryce this early and more importantly the dude has no sources and is just going off feelings the same way you are.
So this dude who doesn't know Tepper or has any sources in Carolina is blowing hot air and you guys just buy it because you don't like Tepper? Why the heck would Tepper demand Bryce to be benched after the investment he put into him, especially knowing that people would blame him? If anything he'd be pushing Canales to keep him out there until there is no denying Bryce ain't it.
Take into account recent history and you’ll quickly find how wrongheaded your argument is. Tepper has torched his own investments many times before. Past performance is the best indicator of future behavior. He had no issue torching his investment in Darnold or Rhule or Frank. I get it’s more investment but his track record speaks for itself. You’re convincing yourself that a billionaire changed his stripes in less than a year. That doesn’t make sense to me at all.
@@FarOutAtl He gave Rhule 3 seasons and allowed him to bring in Darnold who stayed for 2 years. Maybe admit you're not perfectly informed on things
@@unc54 he fired Rhule less than 3 seasons into a 7 year contract. and Darnold got benched in the off-season after his first year with the panthers. what are you on about, champ?
Bryce needed to be benched. whose this guy. TOO easy for the gm and owner because bryce is playing horrible
come on rich you're more logical than this lol. David tepper threw a drink on a fan and you doubt him being impetuous? lol
Rich comes off naive often.
Tepper is the problem. Always will be.
YEP 👍 YEP!! David tepper must make things up with the fan base ultra fast . David tepper must fixed things by number one get rid of Bryce Young. Then improve our team all the way around by allowing Dan Morgan and Dave canales to make decisions for the team. Stay out of it. Get out draft picks back with smart moves and go get a QB for hire this season and let's go back to the draft and land a solid player . A play maker. Fix defense and offensive line. Get a wide receiver top notch then get a BADASS QB
Complete, embarrassing nonsense, Rich. First, the Teppers LOVE Bryce, he won a dinner party with them to be #1 overall. Next, it is IMPOSSIBLE to evaluate your roster with QB play this bad. Young is 1-20 on third down. It is essentially CFL rules for CAR. Morgan and the HC have not a clue if their RB, WR, or TE rooms are functional given how horrid the QB play has been. The defense? Trash or, what do they look like with an actual lead?
Being their D has given up a TD on opening drives in both games, I'd say they're not that good. At that point, the score is 0-0.
