3D Electronic Christmas Tree Kit Build

- I found this kit on Amazon and could not resist buying one so I could build it. It was pretty straight forward and I like the final product. It uses cycling LEDs that cycle through three colors. This was not a paid endorsement. I purchased this item for my own interest and thought I would share my experience building it.

I noticed these were from your amsr videos! They’re so cute!
It's the same tree he uses as decor in his asmr videos! Oh my heart !😍 god bless you!
shut up john
I will now buy one for a friend, thanks for an excellent demonstration.
you should do something like this on your asmr channel!!
no he shouldn't

Just bought one of these, hopefully I will introduce my son to electronics and we will build it together...😊
Just put this together today. First time doing something like this in 20 years. Was fun and my 6year old son loves it.
what adorable trees!!
its ugly
You truly are an amazing person! Keep it up!
no
Sir, you just looks like my cute math teacher! Both of you are sooo kind!
your math teacher died
@@cruzeroeby8846 its just so sad and poor that you were just born as a body without soul

This is so cool!
His voice is exactly like I thought it would
First time ever soldering wanted to practice for a different project I have in mind. 28 out of 37 (I think there's 37 total) lights are working... SO I say that's a success.
You might just have some leds backwards. I did that on a couple. It was difficult to determine their polarity
@@tmc200527 Thanks for the advice and video! Really helped me out
So cool
Omg i wish i had one of those
I bought this x-mas tree but it's cloned or something. At the base of the tree, there is 5v usb port instead of battery holder like you have.
Completed the soldering. One side of the tree leds are flashing, but the other side it's not.
Also I get extra pcb (the side with gap in the top part), I don't know if it will function or not. Does it need both sides to work?
Thank you!
I assembled tree and it all works but even if switch is off it blinks anyway! I don't understand where I mistaken
Maybe you have a solder bridge under the switch? Did you install the two batter jumpers correctly. You could try removing the switch and then see if it still turns on with the batteries installed.
@@tmc200527 i think switch is malfunctioning. When is on light is strong, when is off light is a little weak. And when it is on and I put on off for a second light is really weak and it becomes a little stronger after a second
I tried to make one, but after making all of this, nothing happen. I press the button and it doesn't light. Do you know what can be wrong?
I don't know how much experience you have with electronics or soldering but some of the parts need to be installed with the correct orientation. The same for the transistors and the capacitors. If you look at the bottom of the Christmas tree halves there are plus and minus markings that have to align with the markings on the base.
How long do you think it would take a 10 yr old to make this?
just finished mine, In one of the PCBs three LEDs of each side won't light.. what could it be? Thanks
If one of the boards is working visual compare the two to make sure you are not missing a component. Check to make sure you did not miss a solder joint to a component. On mine all the transistors have the flat side down. Do you mean you have a total of six diodes not working on one board? Sometimes you can have what they call a cold solder joint that you did not heat enough and will be dull in appearance and not make a good electrical contact to the solder pad on the board. I know the leds are very small but maybe you installed one backwards. Check closely with a magnifying glass if you have one. Everyone can make a mistake in electronics so just take you time and you'll figure it out. Troubleshooting is part of the process when doing a project like this. I think I caught myself making a mistake too. Good luck. Hope this helps. If you have a meter you can check voltages on the two boards to see what is different to stir you in the right direction to find the problem.
@@tmc200527 I checked, no component is missing, no capacitors or transistors are backwards... a bit frustrating. Thanks for your help.
Not much help identifying parts, for example, which resistors are which?
It's called a multimeter...
Very cute :)
no its not
I think I will buy it but substitute the LEDs for other ones. I quite like the form of it, but the RGB stuff is just a bit too busy for me!
Nice video as always.
@@Riskteven yes, but the RGB LEDs that come with this kit can't be controlled, they just do their flickery RGB thing, which didn't look good
I was wondering if there were larger ones available but I don't know if it would throw the proportions off on the look of the small tree. I found some on Sparkfun that are 10mm size. www.sparkfun.com/products/11452 The lead spacing might be wider so they might not fit. I think the ones in the kit are 3mm size?
Did the kit bring a soddering tool
❤❤❤
I finally got an ad
Can you control the speed?
I'm not certain to what extent the transistor circuit with the electrolytic capacitors are controlling the frequency of the LED turning on and off but they have these LEDs in larger sizes and different cycling speeds. I found this one on Sparkfun www.sparkfun.com/products/11452. The data sheet just shows an IC with no identification and a timing diagram. cdn.sparkfun.com/datasheets/Components/LED/changingLED.pdf
