Facts they changed the game for hardcore - metal core, they inspired lots of bands yet their sound is still unique to them, no other band could bring this energy just with their sound in the scene.
I can relate to that. But a lot of tragedy has befallen me since this song has came out. Lost a lot of ppl I cared about. Call it survivors guilt, depression, PTSD, whatever. I come back to this song to remind myself of all that I no longer have, when I get too happy. (I'm not military if you're wondering, but that doesn't mean I'm not on a battlefield.)
I saw Poison The Well in 2006 along with The Fall Of Troy and Horse The Band.. they got stuck in traffic so PTW opened the show, and holy shit! What an awesome show! I'll be 50 in 2 years and they still kick ass!
I saw these guys in Pittsburgh when all they had put out was their demo with 4 songs. A guy I knew turned his basement into a venue, booked underground bands, and charge you at the door where you were given a solo cup to drink warm beer. I believe he named it the “spider lounge”. Very fond memories of that spot and I still have a copy of their signed demo.
I remember this album being released, about 2 decades ago. I was listening to this song and knowing how broken I was. And now 16 years later, FUCK, I'm still broken. STRONGER, but broken.
I didn't hate this album when it came out but didn't love it either. In 2021 I listened to it again today and fell in love with it. Well before its time, and aged like fine wine.
Poison The Well transcend 'genres' they make great music, powerful, emotive, artistic, inspired & inspirational. The 'You come before you' album is a masterpiece and this song one of the highlights for sure.
Still barely hold a candle to The Opposite Of December IMO Musicians only get one of those caliber albums in a lifetime...straight from the soul,,not made for an audience, but rather as an outlet (like Otep Sevas Tra)
Went to see AFI in early 2004 during the Sing the Sorrow tour, AFI was one of my favorite, if not favorite bands at the time. Poison the Well, who I had never heard of, was one of the openers and when they played this song I had to make a note of at least one lyric so I could look them up on the internet when I got home. Nearly 20 years later and I'm still listening to Poison the Well a lot more regularly than I am AFI.
It's upsetting how overlooked this band.. this album was. Dude, I tried to spin this to my hipster ass friends, I just always accepted it as something that was very special to me on a personal level.
This song literally saved my life. I was going through real hard stuff in 2017 but between the lyrics and this video and the older man that reminds me of my grandpa I knew I had to keep going. I would listen/watch this on repeat every night for about 3 months til I didn’t want to kill myself anymore and realized there’s a lot in life to love.
Follow up, I’m still here. I hope you guys are too. Thank any of you for the support, life is tough but we all have a reason to keep fighting the good fight.
Poison The Well is the best emotional metalcore band of all time for me. And this album is a masterpiece. I'm so sad they split up before I had the chance to see them live. Love from Italy ❤

I remember going to see these guys in Glasgow about 10-12 years ago. I had just seen one of my other favourite bands, converge and managed to get backstage to meet them and they couldn't have been more arrogant and dismissive of a young fan. This is only mentioned as to show the stark contrast of the next week when i managed to meet these guys and I have to say Big Jeff is one of the nicest people i've ever met. Happy 18th birthday, YCBY! So hard to believe that this album is this old already. It still holds up to anything put out today. Not counting greatest hits albums, this is easily my number 1 favorite of all time!
I hardly toss around the word beautiful, but this song embodies that definition. I remember one cold autumn many years ago, before I slept this song came on late, I remember just sitting and listening. It was cold in our house, the warmth of the fire went away, the TV screen flickered brightly with the music video, and the street lights were off. Much of the song's lyrics and the musical atmosphere buzzed in my mind before I slept. I tried reciting the lyrics but all I could do was hum. The next day, I bought the album and has been my favorite ever since.
Man I remember as a young teen I had their black hoodie with the stitched birds and skull on it and I was going on a run and this guy In a big pick up truck stopped at the intersection I was crossing and was like yo dude where did you get that hoodie!! So I told him the website but he literally asked to buy it off me because he loved the band so much. I declined lol but I was so stoked that some random stranger recognized the band at the time because post hard-core and hard-core music felt so underground to me.. I'm Pretty sure a girlfriend ended up stealing that Hoodie though... man the memories of this band are eternal I'm so greatful for what they pioneered in music for all these bands today. Never forget the legends!!!
DownSetSilhouette SAme here. I got into them in 2002 and graduated in 2003. They came by during the summer following graduation and played in a small club here in Oklahoma City with Thrice, Moments in Grace. Darkest Hour was also supposed to play, but they skipped OK lol.
This album brings me back to 2004 and all the happy memories I associate it with, like a window into my own adolescence, carefree and full of good feelings. I spent that year in a relationship with a beautiful and lovely girl who was way out of my league, what a dream that time in my life was. The world held such amazing allure and promise, life was perfect. I am forever grateful for this band for helping make something very special to me personally.
I was about 20-21 when this album dropped. This track always caught me in the feels. I'll be 40 next year and it still brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. I just lost my brother about 2 weeks ago. He wasn't ever a huge PTW fan, but this song will FOREVER remind me of him.

39 years old, and I agree! Stirs up some hard truths. Saw them 03, 04 ish could be off a year or two, but I beleive is was Poison the well, Dillinger, Hopesfall and Scarlet. Uncle doctors Columbia SC. Damn...
Man they get sceniest scene kid ever for this video 😅 Great song, great album, great band. They were never hard enough for “real” hardcore and too real for the mallcore scene.
This song has the best hold on me. I can never forget the lyrics, the instruments, the beat and the harmony out of my head. For me it hits so much emotion and the words are gathered in such a manner. This truly is an adventure, one we can all enjoy nicely. Just my two cents.
Saw them live 100000 years ago or whatever it was now down in Ft Lauderdale and was backstage talking shit with them, super cool dudes and best hardcore band ever
One of my favorite songs. Favorite album. Been listening to this since came out back in 2003. Makes me feel old, but it's never left my playlist or cd case haha

they truly are, almost pisses me off not more people know about them.

In the scene they are very popular. It is important that we gatekeep them. I don't want zoomers to listen to them lol

Oh yeah, this album was fantastic.
This song never fails to make me sad. Reminds me of being 16, coming home from school and having my entire life ahead of me. Where has the time gone?
Same but enjoy life while we are here and enjoy the future!

Has a Deftones feel to it.
This song has always touched my heart from the first day I heard it. I still visit often for the feels.
39 years old, and I agree! Stirs up some hard truths. Saw them 03, 04 ish could be off a year or two, but I beleive is was Poison the well, Dillinger, Hopesfall and Scarlet. Uncle doctors Columbia SC. Damn...

I fell in love with this song when it played on headbangers ball when it came out in 2003. I was 14. I’m 31 now, and this song still gets me.

Man they get sceniest scene kid ever for this video 😅
Great song, great album, great band. They were never hard enough for “real” hardcore and too real for the mallcore scene.
I saw them play with A.F.I. and Stereophonics in liek 2004.
It was a good show. I got them to sign my shorts.
I remembered this band and put it on youtube... I felt like 2006 for a few seconds. The human mind is really amazing. Good times;
2018? I'm proud of you 🍻 cheers

What a time to be alive.
Still one of the greatest songs. 🖤
Stick to the side roads. They help interesting thoughts - great way of saying take the path least traveled and think for yourself. Love this band!
swear to god when ever this song comes on the radio (which is very very rare) it turns my whole day around. my favorite track by these guys....so far.
Damn again 😢
This song has the best hold on me. I can never forget the lyrics, the instruments, the beat and the harmony out of my head. For me it hits so much emotion and the words are gathered in such a manner. This truly is an adventure, one we can all enjoy nicely. Just my two cents.
Going to see them this Monday!!! Faaaaaack ya
HELL YEAH NOW LETS BRING BACK "CAST IRON HIKE" AND GET THIS TOUR GOING!!!!!!
Opposite of December will always be the best album
The most underrated band

You and me both. This whole album, in fact, I have needed it many times since it came out.
