  • Hey, everyone.
Are you ready for another MTP episode? In this one, I speak with DharmaPunk about his experiences with arcade shooters.
We went with more of a casual, conversational approach as opposed to the typical Q&A style and I feel this worked a lot nicer.
Be sure to check out DharmaPunk's channel here: / @dharmapunkgames
Thanks so much, Christian! It was a blast talking with you!
Enjoy the video, and we'll be in touch soon!

Really enjoyed this chat - I remember watching the Rayforce vid and relating sooo much 😂 Nice to see the tables turned a bit to get some more Shmuptopia lore for the annals too 🎉 What a great series 🤘

I’m all about the lore as well!!! RayForce vid was my intro as well and I knew this dude was another long-lost space brother!!!

Thanks as always man! Shmuptopia's dark backstory is slowly surfacing and ideally we see more from Christian before long.

Ah man, thanks for listening scowsh and for watching the original video. After getting an opportunity to talk with Dace, I'm feeling even more inspired to create something new!

@@SpidersSTG Long-lost space brother hahaha, love it! We should get some virtual (unless you're in Texas?) coffee sometime and talk shop.

Loving this so far! Christian is such a good, solid dude I very selfishly wish was putting out more stuff, but even just his comments on various videos in the shmup-o-sphere are always blessings:)
Had to stop real quick and just “YES!” at the idea he put forth of the “mental sandbox”. I love that so much in a way that not only can shmups reveal things about how our mind is, but also as a place we can do work, explore, and test. Still an hour to go so I expect more comments incoming, but just stellar stuff so far you guys!!!

Always happy to hear you enjoy these episodes. Yeah, it's wild how much space there is to explore not only the game but ourselves and everything in between. Enjoy the remainder!

Ayeee, you're too kind, thanks man! We need to talk more about the mental sandbox as I feel like you, Dace, and myself all have a lot of ideas that aren't necessarily talked about much, but I bet would make for a great conversation. Remind me to tell you about my method of training "clutch moments" that involves darts and a burning pizza (seriously).

@ I am intrigued!!I have a video I’m working on about 3 out that goes heavy into the “inner mind” meditation aspect… might be cool to pour our heads into a pool and see how it all flows

Great stuff. Thanks to both of you!
I can relate to the Rayforce story. It's the same thing that happened to me with Mushihimesama. Finding solutions to problems and creating "my route" was a big part of the experience that I didn't see at first. It's almost like a fighting game "crossover" again. FG players like games where they can express themselves through the gameplay. I get that vibe with shmups, too. Sure, you can tap to dodge or move to a certain position, but maybe you feel more comfortable with a different solution. I think that's how players develop their style.
As for "soft eyes" - that's also something that happens in fighting games. You want to look at your opponent's character to see how they move. I also think it happens in music. When you play guitar or bass and you zone out, the fretboard kind of becomes irrelevant because you know where your fingers need to go to hit the right note and you know how much force you need to bend the string to get the exact sound you want.
    Anyway. Great conversation!

Always great to have you here, Timo! I totally hear you on the creating your own route. I personally don't mind staying in a game for much longer if it means I get to figure things out myself in a way that is meaningful to me instead of relying on simply watching how someone else does it. Definitely 100% on the fretboard, too!
