  • I was on the way to Ireland and Emerald Airlines (the budget arm of Aer Lingus) flies direct from Exeter to Dublin. It was a reasonable price and I've also never flown with Emerald before, so it definitely needed a try.
I also wanted to check just how easy the coach transfer from Dublin Airport into the city can be.
    Departure: Exeter Airport, England, UK
    Destination: Dublin Heuston, Ireland
    Cost:
Flight (bought two weeks in advance) inc 7kg cabin bag: £48.73 / €56,40
Transfer coach: €8,00 (bought on the day)
    Date of Travel: April 2023
Operator: Emerald Airlines / Dublin Express
    Motive power: ATR 72-600 twin-engine turboprop (2013)
Thank you to everyone who watches, comments or subscribes. I really appreciate every one of you.

You can get the 16/41 city buses that come every 5-10 minutes for €2, no need to get the private express bus

Thanks for that. Just the kind of extra information I needed, and should have known before I set out. Great clarification. Very much appreciated 👍
Thank you also for watching 👍

My first glimpse of Exeter Airport. I note the news headlines, but this video really does convey the impact of the collapse of of Flybe .

Yes. I was there a lot when flying out to places for work. It certainly felt much quieter now and the closed shop and restaurant was a telling change.
Thanks as always for keeping faith with the channel. Back on the rails next Friday.

It’s not a matter of keeping faith. Your train experience videos are the best I have found on You Tube. I enjoy your craft in producing them, and your personal response to trains and surroundings.
The videos convey that sense of occasion to which you once referred, and which is so important for a journey. A message I fail to get through to GWR!

Perfect timing for this as we'll be using Emerald for the first time in just a couple of weeks (Dublin to Edinburgh). We've flown Aer Lingus (transatlantic) a number of times; always a thumbs up from us. Have a great weekend!

Love that birdsong at Exeter airport :) Thanks for another excellent trip report!
Oh, the (half Irish) husband wants to know if you got a glass of Liffey water in Dublin...

Ah ha, yes! When I started the edit and I heard the birdsong in my headphones I thought "that shot has to stay in!"
I did not get any Liffey water. I didn't know that was a thing. What's the story there?

      @@JohnnyHooverTravels Liffey water = Guinness

@@ampersand. ahhh... yes I had some when I got to Rosslare at the end of the trip round Ireland. tbh, (and I'll only whisper it) Guinness is not my favourite Irish beer. Local breweries at Galway, Limerick and Cork all had better 🤷‍♂

I've flown on Aer Lingus 3 times before on trips to America and Mainland Europe. I travelled to America 1st Class and I can say that it is very good.

I love small airports, big ones scare me. I guess it's trauma after I couldn't find my friend at De Gaulle airport who was landing at another terminal and her phone died 😅I was there for the first time then 🤭
Thank you for this video 🤗

Thanks for another lovely video. I liked Exeter Airport - if I have to fly I vastly prefer small airports, where it can be matter of a few minutes between the waiting area and the plane. I really don't understand why the official preference is to expand Heathrow or Gatwick, where it can take half an hour ...

Yes, I love Exeter. Of course it is just more cost effective to cluster both airlines and ground services at major hubs. Small regionals have always struggled.
I like to use Exeter whenever I can, but in the South West most routes fly out of Bristol.

Which document we neeed for exeter to belfast ? Passport . Driving licencse or etx

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  10 місяців тому

Not entirely sure. I always use my passport on trips because I have it and therefore always use it. I'd advise checking gov.uk.

Exeter to Belfast you can use your driving licence as it's within the UK CTA (NI & Channel Islands). However, if you wanted to go Dublin or anywhere in Ireland (not NI) you will need a passport.

since when has Emerald been the 'budget arm' of Aer Lingus? they're a franchise operator of Aer Lingus....like SunAir is a Franchisee of BA etc....

It's shocking how run down Exeter has become since City & Regional took over and then Flybe went bust.

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  8 місяців тому +4

Yes it is a little sad. But at least there's still flights to be had and it did look like they we remodelling the shop area so there is still investment going in. It was still a very handy connection from the South West of England to Ireland.
Thanks so much for watching 👍
