I don’t understand all the negative comments on here because the man has a hobby he loves. Kudos to the man for being more than just a musical artist. Obviously an artist through and through. Awesome layout!!
His layout has been featured in Model Railroader twice. I have both issues. He would build the buildings after concerts. He would take the kits with him and build them in motels after he did a show. He recently moved his layout from California to the UK.
My Dad had model trains his whole life.Any house we lived in had to have a big basement for his train layout. Many people have the same passion, as obviously, Rod does.
Did yiu know Rod was ‘discovered on a train platform in London ? He was singing and a record label dude heard him and the rest is history! See the connection there? Trains ?
Model Railroading really is for everyone. Many people are shocked that such star power could be model train enthusiasts but im actually shocked it isn't more popular in Hollywood.
I am glad for Rod that his train layout safely made the trip from California to Brittian! Rod had American trains previously but now I see he also has a British Rail Deltic diesel locomotive and other British trains. "Keep On Tracking Rod!". Roger Daltrey is also a train buff and is starting a Model Railway Museum in Kent, England.
I had no clue that Rod Stewart is a model railroad enthusiast! I've been one since my early childhood; my father had built a layout for my oldest brother for Christmas when he was five, so the layout was part of the family long before I was (I'm 77 now). I vowed I would have my own layout when I grew up and I kept the promise to myself. While my brother's layout was O Scale, I lived in an apartment and then a small house, so I hadn't room for a large layout. I made the 200 buildings on it from kits (and a bit of kit bashing), had 13 switch tracks on it, a trolley running down the business district downtown, a farm, and over 500 people milling around various spots on it. It broke my heart when I finally had to give it up due to downsizing, but I'll never forget the many hours I spent creating it (like all model railroaders, I never did really finish it) and making up stories to go with the people, to keep my youngest son amused while I worked on it. I am probably one of Rod's biggest fans; I've seen him in concert many times and own most of his music either on CDs and/or MP3s. Now I have yet another reason to love him!!!
Rod Stewart is amazing. We all got to see and read what he was doing with a featured article in Model Railroader magazine. His HO model layout is awesome and the article explained most of the scenery and buildings were built up by Stewart. It said in the article that Stewart would take some of his hobby projects on the Road with him and spend time building them in his hotel rooms when not performing on stage. Thanks for this video and take care.
Rod has had two feature articles on his layout in Model Railroader Magazine. His layout is HUGE. He takes projects on tour to work on when he has spare time.
Thx for the update! I remember the Model Railroad issue that highlighted his layout a few years back. Also remember the part about the apron Rod would wear when working on projects while on tour so he wouldn't lose any small parts to the ground.
God love you and Jules, Rod! Model trains are such fun. It's an amazing and completely addictive hobby, which I have just started. I cannot match your incredible layouts - long way to go yet! - but it's all about the journey!😊
I had no idea about Rod's love for trains. What I have always known, is that he was one of grittiest and most soulful rock vocalists in history. Very cool vid!!
The World's GREATEST Hobby and a quite serious and expensive hobby at that which is filled with technology. Us modelers don't "play" with trains like kids, we RUN trains and there's a very distinct difference. Rod built a stunning HUGE layout in his home that's been featured in Model Railroader Magazine so it's quite serious and a joyous hobby to be in.
The more more I watch the news, the more I like watching trains... I'll bet they're both really popular with the grandkids too... I'd have never wanted to leave that room.
I always knew that Rod Steward liked trains and was a modeler. I didn't know Jools Holland did too. Holland was the original keyboard play in the band Squeeze. Squeeze had hits like "Cool for Cats", "Tempted", and "Another Nail in My Heart". I loved seeing those Chicago & Northwestern F-units. I saw a lot of them in commuter service when I was growing up in the Chicago area.
It's funny, I first got into Blondes Have More Fun while I building a large part of a model train layout back in 1991! When I hear that album today, I think back to that fun time spent in my old basement!
Wow! Were those CNW F7a and b units pulling that freight consist?! I actually bumped into Rod Stewart walking down Michigan Ave a couple decades ago now. Awesome dude. Most people that love trains are 🙂.
As a life-long model train guy I have all respect for Rod. I was asked once who helped my built my large N scale layout. I said, nobody helped me, I did every single thing myself. And I have to say, it's a work of fuckin art! Also, don't call it a train set. A train set is what you put around a Christmas tree. I have a model railroad.
Lionel is more of a "toy" train, not to scale at all. But he did pretty much save Lionel trains from going out of business, for those who like that type of train.
I can’t help but to remember Rod Stewarts very earliest MTV music video “Hot Legs”. The video was shot at what appeared to be a railroad station and on the rail tracks. It was an excellent music video. Thanks Rod!
Huh. Wouldn't have guessed, but not surprised. Seems like if it gets brought up in conversation, most people know someone who has trains. That looks like an awesome layout- he must've worked on it for many years.
There are NO "Hobo's" in Britain unless you want to end up in jail, or the morgue. You're not even allowed on a Railway track, & ALL railways in Britain are fenced for safety & security reasons by LAW.
Hi Rod my name is Neil schwerdt in west valley city Utah. I do HO my layout is 18 x15 and it is Montana rail link from 1987 through 2023 . Hope you are having fun with your layout. My grandma got me started with them she had it go around her Christmas tree.😊
Love the MRL "Blue train"! That Montana cowboy (and his son) have done well: Washington Marine Group. Own Cates Tugs in Vancouver, BC and keep their THREE yachts there on their own dock next to Lonsdale Quay. Visited often.
Back in the 1980's during a lunch hour, I saw Rod Stewart entering and later leaving FAO Schwarz in the GM Building. Was he there for the model trains?
Rod is a master model builder. His work is featured in a couple issues of model Railroader, among others. Simply magnificent.
Rod Stewart was already a legend in my book, now finding out he's a train fan...SUPER LEGEND.
What ? Is he famous for something ELSE beside his model railroad ?
I don’t understand all the negative comments on here because the man has a hobby he loves. Kudos to the man for being more than just a musical artist. Obviously an artist through and through. Awesome layout!!
Glad that we still have Rod alive and kicking
His layout has been featured in Model Railroader twice. I have both issues. He would build the buildings after concerts. He would take the kits with him and build them in motels after he did a show. He recently moved his layout from California to the UK.
Rod Stewart, Jules Holland and also Pete Waterman - all railway modelling - me too - love it! Peter U.K.
Think Phil Collins is too
I always like when you see Rod and his trains..
My Dad had model trains his whole life.Any house we lived in had to have a big basement for his train layout. Many people have the same passion, as obviously, Rod does.
My wife and I love rod what he has done to his layout is his own work he is very down to earth person with a heart of gold and genuine
When on the road he would rent an extra room, have the bed removed and a table brought in so he could work on a building to relax.
TRUE!
That’s fascinating! I’ve been a a fan since the 70’s and just find out about his train hobby today! 😮
Did yiu know Rod was ‘discovered on a train platform in London ? He was singing and a record label dude heard him and the rest is history! See the connection there? Trains ?
I can recall his layout was shown on Model Railroader probably 10yrs ago? Its incredibly impressive. A man with heart!
Glad to see Rod is an American rail fan. I spotted his C&NW locos immediately. I'm a retired CNW/UP engineer.
Model Railroading really is for everyone. Many people are shocked that such star power could be model train enthusiasts but im actually shocked it isn't more popular in Hollywood.

Rod grew up with his bedroom window overlooking Highgate Sidings in London (now a depot for Tube trains)

Great hobby. Good job on his railroad--very realistic.

Not a huge Rod Stewart fan but this was a great story. You did a great job spotlighting his life. And I think Rod is still worth the ticket.
I read somewhere years ago that Rod Stewart was more excited about being on the cover of Model Railroad magazine than Rolling Stones magazine.
Well good for him then because Rolling Stones Magazine is shite.
love your trains rod your one hell of a rocker god bless you buddy
Rod has had two feature articles on his layout in Model Railroader Magazine. His layout is HUGE. He takes projects on tour to work on when he has spare time.
I like how he mixes British and American trains.
I'm kind of wondering if he does OO or HO or both.
I think Rod is on the 'right track' with this hobby ! Outstanding !!
It's stoking his enthusiasm!
I've seen his work in Model Railroader. He's very enthusiastic.
Thx for the update! I remember the Model Railroad issue that highlighted his layout a few years back. Also remember the part about the apron Rod would wear when working on projects while on tour so he wouldn't lose any small parts to the ground.
I got that issue also, amazing work!
I remember that article too. Thought it was great that he was all setup to take his gear on tour so he could still work on structures.
Curt Berg - I think Micro Mark used to offer one in their catalog. I think it was called a "Jeweler's Apron".
Rod Stewart must have become a rock star in order to support his model train habit.😁🤣
Johnny Cash was also into model trains. Lionel. I got to play trains with him when I was a kid at his home. It had an awesome layout.
God love you and Jules, Rod! Model trains are such fun. It's an amazing and completely addictive hobby, which I have just started. I cannot match your incredible layouts - long way to go yet! - but it's all about the journey!😊
As long as you have fun!
@@canuckprogressive.3435 Too right!!
Magnificent model railroad and a great singer!
I had no idea about Rod's love for trains. What I have always known, is that he was one of grittiest and most soulful rock vocalists in history.
Very cool vid!!
What an epic masterpiece of modelling Rod’s layout is. Superb!
Yeah Rod is one heck of a modeler when it comes to building buildings. And yes he has one awesome model railroad.
He didn’t party (much), he spent his time doing his hobby. He’s actually very good too.
Thanks to Rod for coming out of the closet. I too will be coming out of the closet, but only with another arm full of trains.
The best hobby and all should embrace it openly. Thank you for sharing your fabulous layout.
The GREATEST Hobby in the World! I model HO scale, OO-scale and O-scale and LOVE IT ❤❤‼️
@@bhigdaddymark Marklin HO for me. Love Europe.
Obviously a great way for him to unwind from the stress of touring and being a star in general. 👍

Trainiacs Unite!
Never would have thought it. Interesting.
Every passion is the joy of life, and many passions are the power of youth. Our Idol Sir Rod Stewart teaches how to enjoy life to stay young.👋🙂👍👏💯🥇💖🌹❤
Well said!!
The more more I watch the news, the more I like watching trains... I'll bet they're both really popular with the grandkids too... I'd have never wanted to leave that room.
Love both model trains and Rod Stewart!
I got to ditch high school when the Faces album came out....memorable times !
Rods discography is enormous and extremely powerful.
What a lovely chap Rod is and like loves model trains it's great man
So cool! I remember taking my Mom to see his concert at MSG in NYC in the 80's and it was a great show! Solid performer!
Id love to see more of Rod’s layout - its fabulous

wow i never knew this about Rod...I believe Kelsey Grammar is a modeler too....trains are cool!
Love it! Saw the Model Railroader issue featuring your layout!
It's funny, I first got into Blondes Have More Fun while I building a large part of a model train layout back in 1991! When I hear that album today, I think back to that fun time spent in my old basement!
Latest News says Model Railways is a dying hobby. Rod Stewart says Hold My Beer
Actually it’s making a big comeback.
His layout was in Model Railroader a few years back. Very nice 👌
Wow! Were those CNW F7a and b units pulling that freight consist?! I actually bumped into Rod Stewart walking down Michigan Ave a couple decades ago now. Awesome dude. Most people that love trains are 🙂.
HO scale, He had a few write ups in Model Railroader about 5-6 years ago. He does mostly PRR and NYC
This is so wholesome.

Please please please do a long segment on Rods Trains layout. It’s absolutely stunning the amount of work that’s been put into it
Very Nice Layout !😊
😊❤🚂
I knew I liked him for more than his music! Rock on Rod!
Canadian singer and songwriter Neil Young is also an avid model train fan
Lionel is more of a "toy" train, not to scale at all. But he did pretty much save Lionel trains from going out of business, for those who like that type of train.
Jools, Rod, and HO trains. A match made in heaven!
Man that is an amazing train set up. Talented guy, how can you not love Rod? Some guys have all the luck. Lol
love this so much
Would have liked to have seen more of the railway..
Neil Young is also a model train enthusiast.
I think he is part owner of Lionel? He does it with his special needs child?
The trains and the association with this icon are great. It's a shame that the video quality could not be better.
Looks like typical CBS. ;-)
I can’t help but to remember Rod Stewarts very earliest MTV music video “Hot Legs”. The video was shot at what appeared to be a railroad station and on the rail tracks. It was an excellent music video. Thanks Rod!
Yep, no trains but some tracks at what looked like abandoned old station... ua-cam.com/video/AHcjjxYbgNM/v-deo.html&start_radio=1
Thats an ambitious layout or two - superb!
That is Great Rod Stewart great music and trains a good combination
Brilliant, very big room for Railways makes us all very happy 🎉
Rod is special forever !.
Interesting -- thank you for sharing your experience!
There you go , you got it ! I love trains!!
Very cool to see a celebrity’s hobby like this.
LOL, finally, something that impresses me favorably about the guy. And impressed I am!
Wish there was a Video on UA-cam that showed Rods whole Layout. Would love to see his Work.
I love Rod Stewart since years and I like as him model railways 🙂
One of the best layouts in the world.
I am also a great fun of train. Sir I like your song specially “ for ever young “ thank you
He shares the same passion Frank Sinatra had. Yep, Old Blue Eyes was another model train hobbyist.
Huh. Wouldn't have guessed, but not surprised. Seems like if it gets brought up in conversation, most people know someone who has trains. That looks like an awesome layout- he must've worked on it for many years.
Baby Boomer here! When I was a kid, just about every boy had a train set or a slot cat set - sometimes both!
I heard, long ago, that Rod would bring his model trains with him on tour, and work on them in the hotel between shows.
Awesome! He should write a new album called "An English Hobo" telling countryside stories etc... :-) Thanks for sharing!
There are NO "Hobo's" in Britain unless you want to end up in jail, or the morgue. You're not even allowed on a Railway track, & ALL railways in Britain are fenced for safety & security reasons by LAW.
Nice one Rod 😊thanks.
Goes to show mega stars do some 'real people' things too; although with a much larger budget to pursue their hobbies. Very cool.
great memories
Very Nice Layout, and He Did A lot of it !❤
Neil Young and Roger Daltrey also
me too
Don't for get Frank Sinatra.
WHO is Roger Daltrey?
A nice, kind man.
Rod's clearly a talented railway modeller as well as being a great musician!
In the UK they made a whole tv series out of this amd Pete Waterman.
"It used to be models, now it's just model trains!" 😀
Hi Rod my name is Neil schwerdt in west valley city Utah.

I'd heard he was a model railroader but seeing is believing.
Didn’t know. Way to go Rod Stewart!
I saw this Sunday, it was great!
Great vidio, love the layout, love ta see what you can do with a garden layout. Thanks for the morning coffee...
Back in the 1980's during a lunch hour, I saw Rod Stewart entering and later leaving FAO Schwarz in the GM Building. Was he there for the model trains?
My love of trains is only eclipsed by my love of rollercoasters.
Very very cool! I hear he bought some stuff from a Vancouver hobby shop near me - recently closed, sadly. Trainiacs unite!
