Cool tutorial. While there is some controversy, much of the scholarship I’ve seen has the French uniform as a more greenish rather than brownish khaki.
You're absolutely right. Greenish was the standard accoutrement colour. Brownish was reserved to the foreign legion and colonial troops as well since WWI and survived or was officer's pride. It may also surprise you, but I perfectly recall my great-grand mother not conceding that all horizon blue accoutrements disappeared by the time of emergency conscription in 1940.
is it possible there were some color variations (or maybe not enough for color variations) - I'm French but I gotta say I don't know our uniforms very well. However, when painting US and Germans, I found references confusing for that reason, mostly.

Do I hear the counting of rivets? ;)

Excellent tutorial and great handling of bases, washes and highlights, very helpful. However, I would reconsider the choice of colour for the helmet.
he looks fantastic, im not usually a fan of French uniforms but he looks awesome
Ahhh i saw a bolt action tutorial and got excited.... maybe todays the day he does USMC! its been a long tease
Well there is a lot of green and tan on my painting table soo...
THAT COULD BE ANY BOLT ACTION FORCE!!!! I see what you did there...
Um... description says "how to paint Chinese Infantry".
Cheers for the tutorial!
*ahem* it says French, yep, never been anything different. No mistakes here, move along people.
really cool
juste one thing
the shoes of french army was'nt black , they was brown (natural leather color)
Great information. Thanks
My pleasure!
Awsome man very cool
Any chance you can be convinced to paint up some Italian infantry? Desert or eastern front?
"wargames, soldiers, and strategy" has odds and ends like that. Good channel!
Excellent!! Thanks for sharing! Keep up the good work.
How do u stop the washes from destroying your brush?
Nice tuto and nice figure, too. I would think the French uniform and helmet were more blue than green, though... Keep up the good work !
Philippe Poirier I think you might be confused with their WW1 uniform. This is from early WW2 :)
Very true. I had their WWI uniform in mind. So... just keep up the good work :-)
cool but... what were you thinking with that helmet color?
Another excellent video😊
I like it; I do think however the helmet should probably be a little less bright?
I believe it's the light, the helmet is directly underneath it. It's a lot darker in person.
Great tutorial and very helpful. A German para would be much appreciated for a future tutorial.
I'm still debating on whether or not to do early or late war :S
Nice job bud
Late war would suite me fine!
Can u paint late War Germans with the paint sets to go with, love your videos keep the the good work
Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/1ZFGF0B6jTQ/v-deo.html
Another videos? So soon Impressive!
I felt inspired after watching Dunkirk over the weekend
Have you painted 1/72 scale French Army? Would you use the same process for the smaller scale?
Great Video, thank you.
I think it'd be awesome to see a tutorial on SS soldiers in Oakleaf or Pea-Dot camo, though I imagine it'll be extremely difficult.
Hi dude! Amazing tutorial. I followed all the steps in your tutorial...but my colours are a lot darker. Looks nothing like the one on your video 🙁
It's possible that you're washes were applied a little heavy. That's the only reason I could imagine for their being such a color difference.
Hey pete, would these guys work as ww1 infantry too?
Wish it was as simple as you made it look, have you or will you be doing a german late war fallschirjager? Keep up the great content
If you want late war you can probably follow my Grenadier tutorial, most of the colours are transferable: ua-cam.com/video/1ZFGF0B6jTQ/v-deo.html
Hi Pete, any idea what citadel colours you'd use for the coat? I cant get any army painter paints until after the lockdown.
Am I correct in thinking that the Hungarian colour scheme is basically the same as this?
I believe the Hungarian uniforms were slightly more green than this.
25th ha
BEF tutorial!!!
Funny how most paint guides for French infantry WW2 uses chocolate brown for the boots.......
Couple bits; the canteen was made of leather. Second, the putees were olive green. Third, boots were brown leather...sorry.
