I lost my dad about 4 years ago. I haven't hunted much since. I haven't even been watching any hunting videos. I'm starting to feel that desire again and I'm really getting ready to hunt again. I'll be out there for the Missouri firearms season. Thanks for the motivation.
Been out all morning. Slow at 1st but then seen 14 deer. Couple small bucks chasing does. And 2 bigger bucks with noses to the ground. Still out here listening with an ear bud!👍
Thank you for all your videos I’ve honed in on my skills after watching your stuff for 2 years, i normally hang stand and just hunt food and after a few of your vids I moved to a bedding transition this morning I called in 8 different bucks
Had 4 bucks working 2 doe in my yard in Georgia yesterday morning. Same doe comes into estrus around Nov 2 each year. Warmer mornings are keeping the movement at bay but the bucks are ready. First cold snap I’m sitting in my trophy stand until 1pm. Got a #4 county record with my bow last Dec.5 at the trophy stand.
Woke up this morning in KY, 70 degrees and wind blowing 20+. Not even feeling like deer season. Small ups and downs the next few days, with gun season coming on Saturday, and looking wet. Gonna be a warm, unsettled pattern for the next week and a half. Oh well, it's rut time, gonna be out there, regardless what Ma Nature has to say.
Here is some insight that lends itself to a lot of the things that Jeff says. I’m 56 and my knee is shot from playing hockey so I have to really plan my days ahead of time. I’ve killed a deer or two every year for the last five or six years or so…all of them have come on October 27, November 7, November 8, and 12th .. the time I got one on 27th. I also got one on the seventh right after. Both smaller bucks like six point and small eight point. But the part where you say that if you “had to pick a couple days “was spot on for me.
I should add that I have a small parcel of only 7 acres and thankfully not many hunters as neighbors. There’s an apple orchard about 3/4 of a mile away and really nice bedding on the side where we live. It’s a very nice area. (Massachusetts)
Do you have any advice on how to hunt private land on upstate South Carolina?on November I start hunting two years ago. I have learned a lot from you. Love your videos and I'm taking notes. Thankyou and God bless you
I'm finding tons of fresh rubs and scrapes in the open hard woods. But I haven't seen any deer sitting by the sign. Should I keep sitting by the sign or should I be going into and hunting the thick patches that I think they might be bedding in?
I had one chasing and cornering a doe in the laurel just over the hill from my stand this morning. They laid down just about 60 yards from my stand and stayed there for a couple hours unknown to me. I had to slip out at 2 so I checked my camera real fast and they both got up just inside the cover. The chasing and corraling was on again. He pushed her all over the thick stuff trying to hem her in. I never got a look at either of them but it was awesome just to listen to them crash all over as he did his best to get in on the action a little early. 😂
I hunt tons of big timber Ohio Pa. Everyone says “food source” there is browse everywhere every direction how on earth when mast is gone do you narrow that
Clear-cuts are HUGE down there. Also public land that backs up to private land with food...ag land, golf course, hunting lands with food plots, etc. also, heavily browsed green brier tops in your area. South facing hillsides have more browse. Stay away from roads, hiking trails, camp grounds, boat launches, parking areas and areas with a monoculture of habitat... especially just all big hardwoods. I hunted OH state land HUGE tracts and there were areas that really stuck out and you could easily find those with an aerial. Especially young clear-cuts. Since you hunt tons of big timber areas you should be able to find the diversity you need. Much harder on small public land tracts. On big tracts you just go find it...
@@whitetailhabitatsolutions9751that’s what I’ve been targeting but even then. Very difficult there’s no areas backing into private with apparent food sources. But south facing slopes, and are basically bluffed out. Can’t walk up or down on foot most spots it’s either bottom or tippy top. But just haven’t stumbled onto a subsection to sit, although, have many run ins with mature age class buck poking a head out over the last 3 seasons. Definitely very far from parking. Bicycle plus chest waders. The south side slope must just be the underbrush green briar etc i am at a loss where they are headed in evening
Depends on the stand. If my downwind is blocked then 30 to 45 minutes in the stand before daylight. If deer can get downwind of me before daylight then just before daylight. If we have to walk thru an open field where deer are at before daylight...I wait until the field clears and go straight into the stand...
Not everyone has the ability to hunt various locations, have to hunt what I’m given with. Haven’t seen a deer in 3 weeks, they just vanished or only come in at night, haven’t hunted it in 2 weeks. Sometimes it’s just how it goes. As for hunt apps, don’t trust them. Every deer I harvested has been on a bad day. Good days hardly see them. Hmmmm, just think the set you up so you in on the poor days, and home on the good ones.
It's just all about making smart choices....in life, when you hunt, career and of course where you hunt. You either make your own luck and opportunity, or let the world dictate it for you.
Thank you for everything Jeff. Shot a 12 point this morning.
Man, sounds like a lot of good deer being harvested this year. Congrats. I don't believe I've ever seen a 12 point that was alive.
Harvested a monster last night!!! Thank you Huntcast!
Man so dang awesome...congrats Kurt!!
Really happy for you!!
Good job Kurt!
Congrats
Congrats!!!
The chase is on up here in Michigan! Good luck to all.
Jeff thank you for the call outs on West Virginia rut timing.

Watch your channel religiously. Thanks for all the great info. Got an eight today in W.V. pushing a doe. When tracking seen a 10 on same doe.
Great content, Jeff!
I really enjoyed the description of the “mature cruising monster from miles away” starting at
10:19
This is the perfect time of year to be hunting Halloween week!
Cant seems to get better than 2nd or 3rd good luck to everyone!
I've always had the most encounters with mature buck's between Nov. 13-18th here in the northern UP.
Thats usually because the bucks have bred the first doe's and looking for more
In the stand now ear bud in listening to jeff lol love it .
Awesome Matthew, good luck!!

Northwest Iowa and I haven’t seen much for rut action at all
Plenty of deer this morning, huge buck and doe laid down 100 yds from my stand just inside of woods,
Food source this afternoon
Had that happen at 10am on the 2nd back in 2016. They didn't move again until the last half hour of daylight when they moved into thicker cover.

Jeff, looking good. How much weight have you lost? Hope your health is good.
He's in his Honeymoon rut phase!

No clear cuts anywhere recently on this lot that I’ve ever found or see. Older timber, decent size old growth.
Should I start doing all day sits in western Kentucky? ANYBODY?
I would not unless on public land maybe? I haven't started to up here in WI and MN yet...although it's about that time.
How early do you go and sit in the morning?
