I came here looking for location of "New Document Profile" to turn off "Hyphenate" as default, and ended up picking several new tips. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to comment! I don't see the point in a 5 minute intro.

Like this way to set up my documents with a new profile. How about a comprehensive video on clipping masks. Simple ones like draw inside and 2 or 3 layer documents with a clipping mask I understand, but a complex document with several clipping masks in layers are hard to get my head around.

Thanks Ryan! Let me see what I can come up with to help you out with clipping masks!

@@MikePickettDesignCo The thing I am confused about (took me a day so sit on this) is adding layers to be affected by the clipping mask. Where to put them after the clipping mask is created. Thanks.

    Hi Mike,
When created this profile with guides it’s all good but when open as a new document
the layer with guides is not there, do you know why?
I have checked “Paste Remembers Layers” when saved my profile.
Thanks so much for the effort making these videos! ⭐

Mike can you do a video on image trace and then exporting it as a black and white line art piece. I use a cnc carver and need to learn how to do this. I can send you a sample of what I am talking about if you like.

I sure can Keith! You can find my email address and social channels on the about tab. I'll have a look at what you send and see if it can be used as a good example for all, if not I'll be sure to show how it all works so it's useful for you as well! 🤘

Great way to prepare templates. Just reminds one question: how to maintain customizes sizes that way?

I create figures to use on greeting cards. I like to "color" them using a watercolor effect. What is the best way to do this? Which is the best brush to use and how can I keep the color inside the lines or is there a way to color behind or erase? Thank you!

    • @MikePickettDesignCo

Thank you for the comment Cathy. Your best option is going to be using watercolour brushes, of which you find many free options through sites like FreePik or Vecteezy or you can also find some amazing options to purchase as well. You'd have to do some experimenting to find the right set / brush for your needs. As for keeping the colour inside the lines... if your designs are still stroked shapes you could use the "draw inside" option at the bottom of the left side tool panel, it's the right most option and looks like a pie with a piece missing. If you have outlined all of your designs you would have to either use clipping masks or draw your watercolour, create outlines and then erase the portions that sit outside of the lines. Hope that helps! I'll add "draw inside" and some watercolour brush colouring to my list of upcoming videos.

@@MikePickettDesignCo Thank you! the clipping mask does exactly what I was looking for. Now to find some good brushes for watercolors!

When I go to save my new document profile, it says that I "don't have access privileges" ??? I have the adobe cloud, all the apps I have installed show up on my HD, but Illustrator New doc profile folder is placed in a different place. Instead of the "Libraries" folder, all the folders you have in the thread are under "applications" folder (next to Libraries). Only Illustrator does this. I don't get it. I uninstalled and reinstalled the program and it does the same. It seems like I just have to save my blank doc as a reg file (like it is a template) and just rename it as a new file everytime.

The process for this has changed with the newer version, I'm working on an updated video but it's not going to be out for at least a month.

@@MikePickettDesignCo I figured it out from another video! Yes, they changed the location on your HD (now under Applications) but still the same series of folders. And I got access privileges from selecting the "New Document Profiles" folder in the finder, "get info" and unlock the folder on the bottom of the window to change the access to "Read & Write".
