I am seeing a lot of skeptics in the comments, so I just want to share my experience with the V1: First of all, don't worry about the latency. Even on the old model, It's completely imperceptible unless you're looking for it. Now, students: Gather up all your textbooks, notebooks, scratch paper, binders, etc, etc etc. Now imagine never having to carry any of it ever again. That alone made it worth it for me. Also, the capability of having many different notebooks and textbooks means that you won't be doing any page-flipping, because everything for every class/project will be right where you left it. Writing on a screen is pretty nice too. You'll never have to worry about eraser dust, warping/tearing/wrinkling pages, or smearing. You'll never again have to fold the back cover of your notebook over so it fits on the fold-out lecture hall desk. There are no "back pages" where you're writing on the other side of what you wrote. There are numerous other minor annoyances in my life that are all gone now. Granted, you don't have to charge paper. However, I use my V1 6-8 hours every day and I only have to charge it 2 or 3 times per week. You won't need to worry about running out of batteries. The software isn't perfect, and I do have some gripes about the marker, but from this video it looks like they fixed a lot of that. One last note: for people who don't want to deal with all the cloud-sync, make an account, use our app silliness, they have a mode to transfer files to and from the tablet over USB. I rarely if ever even turn on the WiFi.
Jousboxx Bruh there’s so many things that are sad about this comment. First off I could get a 5 subject notebook and 1 binder with scratch paper and that would be enough for 5 courses in college and is not even that heavy. The fact that carrying a few items is that bad that it makes you willing to shell out 400 dollars for a glorified notebook is overblown. Also, many textbooks are on online platforms which this thing can’t even access. On top of that, some books are only available in physical versions. Some classes, like my literature class, also require you to have a physical copy of the book, which means you can’t use this anyway. Again, a lot of these so called “issues” are so trivial and overblown. Eraser dust and folding the back cover of your notebook is really that bad? It’s laughable and seriously comes from a place of having wealth. Students usually can’t afford this, and if they could, it’s irresponsible of you to tell them to waste their money on something a 5 subject notebook could do for 5 bucks. Not to mention the complete lack of features that make it so limited. You’re better off buying an iPad and putting it on airplane mode if it’s sooo distracting. Jesus you seem soft.
Kid _ you seem harsh. You missed the point pal Use normal pen and Paper. You are right it’s a lot cheaper. So let’s throw that discussion away. Swhoosh You want a digital device to take notes and draw and use benefits as layers. Perfect erasing. Notes to text conversion. Ok you have two options. A device like remarkable or a iPad type IPad have a lot of nice other features. That you don’t want or need so throw those out of the discussion. Schwwosh You then have two digital note taking devices because that is what you do a lot at work. iPad have colors. And is a lot quicker in filling on big areas and move and transform drawings. Remarkable have better papers feeling and writing experience. And easier on the eye. And works in sunlight. And have longer battery life. And is lighter. There is both devices strength. Price you can get away with almost the same. Chose which on you prefer to use for note taking.
Definitely a con. But it's supposed to simulate working on paper which you'd do under light anyways. Also, using devices in the dark isn't healthy for your eyes, and one of the benefits this product is pushing is that it's better for your eyes.
I've been deeply impressed by Remarkable's hardware from the first one, being a huge fan of e-ink technology. However, Remarkable's largest weakness for me was the UI, which was pretty bare bones. I the ability to search and organize files wasn't as robust and to-the-point as other tablets (drag+drop vs clicking thru dropdown menus, tagging files, etc). There were also little things like not being able to highlight text in a straight line that could have greatly increased quality of life. I also wish there was more options to customize, like being able to import your own page template or adjust the size of your file icons, or having a "desktop" to arrange your files on, etc. These are small issues that feel bigger when you pay $500. . Also, the UI design is quite bland - I wish it was a bit stylized to give some character. It can still be simple, but even a slight ink texture on the icon grid and architectural sketch-like icons can elevate the look from Star Trek data pad to leather bound bujo journal. So much work is going on at the back end to make a screen look like paper, that to not to have the same dedication on the front end to make an immersive paper experience feels a bit like stumbling near the finish line. . I am so excited about the advances Remarkable and e-ink technology is making, I just hope that more than just the hardware improves.
This will help those of us who has hypersensitivity (hyperacusis) who can’t hear the sound of papers due to the pain from the sound. Now there’s a way for us to still use papers. This made my day
Maybe it still isn't a deal breaker for some, but the sheer fact that this tech and this level of detail is out in the market is awesome. Imagine in a few years when these are even more developed and face greater competition What a time to be alive.
Technology is available that is far more impressive than electronic ink and paper; things that actually save people's lives and / or provide shelter and sustenance to poverty stricken lands but this elicits the comment "what a time to be alive" . . . So I'm going to go ahead and say that yes, it's decent tech (and I've been an IS/IT pro for over 35 years now), but seriously giving a side-eyed glance hard at your priorities. Far more impressive is the development by a man I served with in the Navy, (now Doctor) John A. Viator who has developed a method of early detection of cancer acoustically by use of a laser. And that paper was published in 2009. The Viator Institute has made additional inroads since. So yes, (to quote the musical Hamilton) look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now.

Just type in what one you need and it will pop up even put in key words if you can’t remember the name it will come up!! Saved me so much time love it!
As a very loving owner of the first one I'd say the main issues I had were: -Poor Battery life -Very slow responsiveness (especially on wake/start up) -Buttons and swiping to next page were NOT great. Constantly accidentally changing pages. -The eraser feature that took 3-4 actions to get to and get back out of. Please just let me flip the marker and erase with other end. -High price point $500!?! Seems like you made great improvement on All my issues!!
@adrian it's really hard to ignore/forgive. It feels like running a laggy computer or something. or kind of like giving you a micro experience of when you start writing w a regular pen and it's out of ink

@@teddymagris3027 The limitation is in the screen technology, not system or file. It's related to how the dots turn black and white. If you speed up the process, adding more power or putting many activation points, probably it would reduce battery life. To increase battery life, add more battery and for that more weight (and you lose the point of it) or system has to be more slow (and then you lose the point of it).
@@imnotbreno Of course i just wanted to point the fact that this page had few graphics, pictures, etc, the more thing you have to load, the more delay you will have, when you just read text on e reader, the delay is not significant !
e-ink refresh rate is always slower, it's around ~1Hz, while LCD / LED with 60 - 120 Hz are common now. It's sadly the limitation of the technology, which however gives it long battery life and removes the need of backlighting
This is the commerical that got me to buy the reMarkable 2. Never knew anything about such technology. First saw this ad on UA-cam while watching my usual channels. Ordered it on the spot. It's my favorite device in the studio still. I wrote a book with its help.
Thank you for sharing your experience, Manuel. I was wondering about to have an iPad Pro when I received thid add. I think this is what I was looking for. Something to help me been paperless and focus.
I love it! Only two features I would love to see in the next generation (I'm assuming it'll be called reMarkable3), highlighter and change of ink color. Also I'm wondering on its integration with Adobe PDF...
Juli Chio But you’re not just paying for « what it is », they need to pay their employees, the materials provided for the numerous tests and failures, and also make profit out of those 6 years of research and hard labor to achieve such a product. They are launching their second big product and surely invested a lot since they’re starting in the industry so, it’s pricey yes, but i think it’s justified.
Daniel Lyons it’s still less pricey if you decide to pre-buy it :) but people have different opinions and needs, so it’s only worth it only if you think that the device meets you’re needs :>
I'd say this is better for working. You can get an e-reader for manga for much less. The kobo forma has an 8-inch screen. There's the Kindle oasis too, with a 7-inch screen.
If you’re like really motivated, I guess it would be possible read if u convert the manga to a pdf format. I have a nook by Barnes and noble ereader and pics shows well on it.
Nope....e-reader processor is bad. It only work for certain digital manga formats. If you plan to use it for reading manga from manga sites or in image formats or pdf...forget it. Stick with smartphone/tablet
Adrián B.V. Yeah, but the main point is to feel like paper, not look like paper. That isn’t enough to justify it’s price being that close to tablets with more functionality.
Better Paper... Better Thinking... Yeah, going on Day 4 with my reMarkable 2 and would agree with their marketing slogan. Not only has it been great for taking notes, but also wonderful for reading PDF documents for work, personal, and just reading eBooks.
Now that's innovation, it doesn't necessarily need to be mainstream stuff. I'd really opt for a display like that to read a pdf. I think this project will also inspire new creations in near future. greatly appreciated!
Have you ever heart about the technology epaper?. it is very expensive, and I think as Student about, to buy this product, because i have to read a lot of pages every day on pdf at our university and i don't want to take everyday 1000 pages with me. The Point is, you read and write better on this product, because epaper show you the text indirect and do not light up the backround. It is like like paper and handsome to learn in the train or so on
@@baurruso As a student i can confidently say, this product (Im talking about the Remarkable 1) was the worst way to spend 400 euros, thats why i sent it back. The screen doesnt feel like paper at all, the pentips wear out in a week and you cant even draw all the way to the edges of the screen. Pair that with one of the slowest processors and massive lag when writing on something thast is not completely white makes it one of the worst experiences you can get on the ereader market. I mean yeah its great and all, but considering the price these guys charge for that, you only get a simple (not even accurate) drawing tablet with shitty file menagement, no properly working internet connection, that cant even go online, not because they want it to be "disstraction free" but just because it is absolutely slow.(btw if you look at the pdf files created on this device, they dont look nearly as good on a reagular screen as on the tablet. low resolution and no antialiasing)
@NonyaBusiness! Well it doesn't have to do a million things, it just has to do a few things well. I have a galaxy note 8 so don't really need an ipad that does a million things, because my note ALREADY does a million things. Lol
This is a minimalist dream; I have so many journals from my child hood to now that are now sitting in boxes in my storage unit. I am saving up for this; can't wait.
When will reMarkable have proper OCR? By that I mean the ability to search through my notes to search for a particular word. I don't want writing to text conversion - if I need text I will type in the first place. Context: I bought reMarkable v1 in the first pre-order and have since barely ever used paper. I use it every day and have hundreds or thousands of pages of notes. The one feature I need is to search the device to find any time I have written about . So far 3/4 of our executive team have bought reMarkables since I started at the company with mine. The constant "complaint" is that this feature does not exist - indeed the remaining 1/4 have said they would get one if it had this feature. Please just say something about it - I would be willing to pay monthly to get this feature (as I know it would use computing resources to make it possible).
I agree that using the text conversion so we can search notes is far more useful. My solution at the moment is to export my notes as pngs to Evernote and use it’s image ocr, but if I could search my notes on the remarkable then I wouldn’t bother with this step. Notes that I need to reference in future I still have to write in an iPad app with ocr, or as typed text.
@@IStMl that's fine by me. I would only do the searching on the desktop app anyway. Current OCR requires cloud connection. Agree current OCR tech is not that great. Needs to learn hand-writing. I wish they would just do a deal and integration with Evernote!
I don't really see how people hate so much on this device. I'm a law student and I've bought this for writing my notes during classes and creating summaries and it's been awesome. I write daily for about 3 - 4 hours and i do it all on this device. I haven't had any issues with it. People nowadays have subscriptions for everything for the dumbest things such as watching movies or reading a newspaper and then they would complain about 6 euros a month? Ridiculously hypocrite. If I would have to count how much I spent monthly on paper and pens for my classes, I paid easily more than 15 euros a month. So yea it's a GREAT DEVICE FOR ITS MONEY AND ITS TOTALLY WORTH IT INCLUDING THE SUBSCRIPTION!!!!!!!
People who have never been productive on a piece of paper suddenly feel they're going to turn into Einstein on a $400 laggy piece of plastic. LMAO, good luck with that.
question is who did the ad? I was trying to shazam the song multiple times but seems to be custom-made.... let's see if we can find the agency who did the campagin
I have the initial Kickstarter release of this, and for someone like me with extreme sensory processing disorder it means I can benefit from hand-writing my notes, but without the overwhelming pain and panic that comes from using a pencil and paper. For the same reason, e-readers made it so I could actually read books again. People like to make jokes, but seemingly redundant tools can be life-changing for people with disabilities.
@Alexander Posipanko well the iPad has an inferior battery, but it's not a big deal. Also has an inferior writing feel too, but come one, you're taking notes, you don't need that, it's not like you're making a final artwork (something you can actually do with the iPad). But most importantly, and the actual deal breaker for me, the iPad have an lower price, despite being significantly more versatile and efficient
Your Lil Brudder how about a non made in china Samsung galaxy tab s6, it's got pen in the box, best display ever put in a tablet and quad speakers also it has very powerful snapdragon 855 and it's 5g.
Matteo and display on Samsung is 100 % better and there will be no big logo of made in China at the back of the tab also there will be better pen then copied s pen on apple
I am convinced. Tbh I was looking for such an device for years for my school. I was about to buy a Galaxy Tab s6 lite because it has palm rejection, but then luckily I saw inbox therapys video about remarkable. Such a shame there are no ads for this beautiful device, Im more than sure people will buy it, even if they didn't look for it. This is a good product and you don't need to sell it, it will sell on its own. Just promote it. And when promoting focus on school work, nobody cares about reading and of people do, they don't care about it when you tell them the price.
This is the main problem for me: When I have real paper... I want to be able to treat it "badly": I want to be able to fold it, crumble it, stack it, and eventually... see the dust that gets collected on it, and then finally, recycle it. There's something ephemeral about a sheet of paper, the "disposability" of it... that's very important. I KNOW I'm just drafting loose ideas and am married to none... I know none of them are going to be the final product. When you have a product like this... it does neither "the draft" phrase or "the final phrase" very well.
Just pre ordered the Remarkable 2, looks cool. One question, are there plans for a calendar to be built in. Maybe have notes assigned to specific dates in the calendar.
They also have far worse contrast than black and white displays because of how these displays work. You can't have both full white and full black if you're putting filters over a lot of the pixels. Even if all the pixels are "white", the filters above them absorb roughly half of the light, so you end up with a maximum "brightness" of 0.5. LCDs have this problem too, but they just make the backlight brighter to compensate.
This might be the best ad I've ever seen on UA-cam. I ordered my notebook right away. If you could kindly let me know what agency did this video I'd really appreciate it. Well done!
That's not true (at least at the moment). You need to factorize in the materials of producing such a device and all associated costs. So far paper is still by far the greener choice.
It's always funny to see people talk about "saving paper" but never saving trees from building supplies. Where do you think boards come from? Paper comes from pulp made from the wood chips after boards are cut from trees…
1) Trees used for paper production are purposely planted and cut, so you're literally not going to save a single tree. 2) Do you really think that a silicium or aluminium mine pollute less than a paper factory?
If it uses the same software as the first then yes. Some guys ported the pluto ereader to it or made it possible to read offline wikipedia. You can download it at remarkable.engineering. They seem to mostly use qt with patches for epaper usage. You can find some of their work at their official github account: github.com/reMarkable. The first one seemed pretty hackable as well. You can e.g. ssh into it and use it as a linux device.
I first watched this video (and so many others) to try to see more of the options while I was waiting for my rM2 to ship. It inspired me to make some videos on templates, pen options, fonts, and more!
There are many limitations to this device as most of you are aware of- the main ones that pop out being its lack of usability in low light scenarios, extremely slow refresh rate, performance issues, etc.

You missed the point pal
Use normal pen and Paper. You are right it’s a lot cheaper. So let’s throw that discussion away. Swhoosh
You want a digital device to take notes and draw and use benefits as layers. Perfect erasing. Notes to text conversion.
Ok you have two options.
A device like remarkable or a iPad type
IPad have a lot of nice other features. That you don’t want or need so throw those out of the discussion. Schwwosh
You then have two digital note taking devices because that is what you do a lot at work.
iPad have colors. And is a lot quicker in filling on big areas and move and transform drawings.
Remarkable have better papers feeling and writing experience. And easier on the eye. And works in sunlight. And have longer battery life. And is lighter.
There is both devices strength. Price you can get away with almost the same.

I think this is done purposely. They want consumers to buy the newer versions which includes theses things.
I have enough paper to wait for its price to drop around 50$ 😂😂

Maybe it still isn't a deal breaker for some, but the sheer fact that this tech and this level of detail is out in the market is awesome. Imagine in a few years when these are even more developed and face greater competition What a time to be alive.
Few years, and nothing has changed…

2:37 this delay was killing me inside.
Yes but it's a pdf, pdf are always slow to read on e-readers, but i hope there will be no delay in the next generations

Would require to connect to cloud for it to scan and index notes. Plus the recognition software they licensed (on the rM 1) isn't that good
I agree that using the text conversion so we can search notes is far more useful.

When color e-ink displays are already available
they are already real but way too expensive for mass production
They also have far worse contrast than black and white displays because of how these displays work. You can't have both full white and full black if you're putting filters over a lot of the pixels. Even if all the pixels are "white", the filters above them absorb roughly half of the light, so you end up with a maximum "brightness" of 0.5. LCDs have this problem too, but they just make the backlight brighter to compensate.
2:41 "designed to make paper and thinking..." I was afraid they will say "obsolete" :)

This can revolutionalize things! Imagine the paper saved and hence trees saved. A step toward greener future.
