A Traditional Hindu Maticoor In Trinidad

- We attended one of my cousins' maticoor night recently. There was patching of the lawa by the aunties and rubbing of the hardi by the girls. All of this was done while everyone enjoyed traditional Indian music and Trini style Indian food. Some of the food we enjoyed included kurhi and rice, channa and aloo, mango achar, pumpkin talkari, and hot silky paratha roti.

Vedesh the maticoor is when the bride or groom mother goes where there's clean running water a little river or a roadside pipe to perform a ritual where they ask the universal mother to bless the bride/groom and their marriage and ward off any evil from around them. Some dirt from the where the ritual is done is taken back by the mother of the bride or groom which is placed under the calsa on the alter where the hardi puja will be taking place.

Amazing video ❤ . Maticoor night or Matkor puja as it is known in Bihar is Matkor is the rite of digging clay. This clay is symbolically used to make the Vedi (Bedi) or puja (prayer) place in which the kund or ritual basin is placed and in which nuptial fire is lit and around which the marriage vow is made ❤ may the couple be blessed ❤ lots of love from London ❤

Maticoor night in Suriname we say tilwaan and the lawa night we say bhatwaan.
Maticoor in Fiji is called Matkarua and happens on Telwaan night and Bhatwaan is the next night when lawa ceremony happens.
