- The song was one of the last recorded by the band members together, and is notable for the fact that it has not yet been officially released in full. The composition, in which the lead vocals belong to Agnetha Feltskog and the backing vocals - Anni-Frid Lingstad, still arouses considerable interest among fans of the band."Just Like That" was originally written by Andersson and Ulvaeus in May 1982, and the first recordings began in the same month. It was assumed that the composition, along with some others, would be included in the new studio album. However, the quality of the material did not suit the band, and "Just Like That" was forgotten. During the sessions in late spring and early summer of 1982, ABBA was often visited by journalists, and therefore it became known about working on new things. Two titles flashed in print: "Just Like That" and "I Am the City". They were mentioned in the official Polar Music press release for the summer of 1982: according to the publication, the songs were completed and ready to be included on the next album. However, in fact, neither a new album nor the release of "Just Like That" followed. The result of the band's last studio sessions were four songs included on the compilation "The Singles: The First Ten Years" and released as singles in October and December 1982, respectively: "The Day Before You Came"/"Cassandra", and "Under Attack"/"You're Me One". Nevertheless, some of the recordings listed above began to circulate in the 1980s in the fan environment on bootlegs. For a long time there were rumors that their source was a cassette allegedly stolen along with Ulvaeus' car, and later he confirmed through Carl Magnus Palm that this was indeed the case. Another track, "I Am the City", was placed on the 1993 compilation More ABBA Gold: More ABBA Hits.
In 1994, Andersson and Ulvaeus allowed the inclusion of a 2-minute segment of "Just Like That" in the medley "ABBA Undeleted", composed by Michael Tretov for the album "Thank You for the Music". The publication of the excerpt gave fans hope to believe that soon the song will be released in its entirety in the original version, but these hopes, according to Palm, are groundless.
Whatever the flaw the Benny and Bjorn found with this song, it has in the Chorus one of, if not the most beautiful harmonies ABBA every recorded. If there is a flaw somewhere, who cares? It is an absolutely gorgeous song.

I guess Benny and Björn have their reasons and view it differently but sometimes we get blind to flaws at home. Thanks for your answer! I love Abba so it isn´t my intention to just complain but I get frustrated about this subject because this is, in my opinion, one of their best songs.

The songs sounded stronger when Agnetha performed her vocal parts an octave higher than Frida's parts

however, we live in hopes and dreams that one day these two musical geniuses will release it ... thank god there is always hope.

First version of three
Bootleggers got at least three different versions of the song. However, there is reason to believe that there were several more:
The first two mixes were recorded on May 4, 1982. One of them, lasting 5 minutes, is sometimes called the "original" version. A feature of this recording is the presence of simple instrumental inserts between verses and choruses, which creates a feeling of some "unfinished" composition. However, it is in it that the guitar riff is found, subsequently used in the song Under Attack (in the words: "Don't know how to take it/don't know where to go / my resistance running low ..."). The band members returned to work after the "I Am the City" sessions and a short break on May 28, 1982. Two more mixes were recorded that day, including the so-called "nanana" version. Its main difference from the "original" is the vocalization of Agneta over the instrumental parts between the parts of the song. On June 2, 1982, Bjorn and Benny made a last attempt to rectify the situation by inviting the famous saxophonist Raphael Ravenscroft to record brass parts. The sessions of the beginning of June gave the so-called "saxophone" version of the song, which became the final one. It is characterized by a significant change in melody, weighted basses, as well as the replacement of instrumental inserts with long saxophone riffs. Upon completion of work on the "saxophone" version of "Just Like That" was rated unsatisfactorily by Benny and Bjorn, so the song was never released.

The 'official' version of 'Just Like That' was recorded by brother and sister duo Gemini and released on their self-titled album in 1985. The album was produced by Benny & Björn and most of the songs were written by them. The chorus is the same as this early version but the verses are completely different. Benny has stated that the ABBA version was discarded because it didn't work and even after a re-write he does not like the Gemini version. Also on the Gemini album is a version of 'Slowly', recorded by Frida and released on the 'Shine' album, and 'Another You, Another Me' also recorded by H & Claire (ex-Steps) in 2002.

Just Like That is a pop song written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. It was originally written for Abba, who recorded several different demos with Agnetha Fältskog as soloist in the verses in 1982.
Newspaper journalists visited Abba in Polarstudio in 1982 and two titles of new recordings were mentioned in the article written: Just Like That and I am the City. As the songs were not included on the group's subsequent anniversary album The Singles - The First Ten Years in the same year, both titles after the newspaper article have still been known to fans. Just Like That has been given an almost mythical role among fans and many hope that the song will be released in its entirety.
I am the City was included in its entirety on the album More Abba Gold - More Abba Hits in 1993, while Just Like That is still officially released today only in a 1:30 minute clip in the medley Undeleted, which was included on the Thank CD box set You for the Music. However, there are illegal releases of the entire recording on CD and the internet. The versions that were released illegally are three in number. The first version is a demo which is usually called the "slow version". A guitar riff from the melody was then used for Under Attack. The second version is largely the same, except that Fältskog sings "na na na"/"la la la" over the instrumental parts. The third version is the final mix with a higher tempo and saxophone solo by Raphael Ravenscroft. It is from this version that a clip was included in the medley Abba Undeleted.
