Aries did something that almost no youtuber or photographer does on social networks, using flashes mixing hard light and soft light, purposefully trying to recreate the daylight he has at the time.
When he saw that he had a chance to match the light in the background of the image, he did.
It is very easy for most of us to light everything with soft light, finding the perfect angle so that the model looks good in the image with hard light takes years of practice and analyzing the world around us.
    Excellent video!

❤ I would using the 2 AD300Pros to create the sunlight look on a cloudy day for sure! I love his technique of blending the hard light with soft light! Then I would be playing with the other 3 looks he demonstrated because I absolutely love experimenting with different looks and being able to create a variety of looks with my lights! ❤

Create Sunlight on a Cloudy Day resonates for me because it’s always when you need sun and it isn’t there! This set up would be great to ensure consistency when shooting outdoors. I love a two light set up. I would use a main and a fill, even create a back lit sun and mild fill. Imitate a setting sun with lens flair seventies style, sun glinting through.

Creating fake sunlight through harsh strobe light still amazes me every time. When done right, it is just so convincing, creating a whole different mood in the scene and elevating the style greatly. Balancing the shadows with a fill light afterwards is just the last polishing touch.

I will use AD300 Pro to mimic as a sun to feel natural when shoot at noon or to create rembrandt light technique as soft or harsh in terms of what situation am in. 2nd- in bodybuilding photo shoot, to place light right above tallent to create highlight and shadow on muscles with faster shutter speed

A wonderful guide by @AriesTao. I'd use the lights to control an ultra reflective product photography i have to handle from time to time. The soft handling will allow me to control the full surface presentation, one that cannot be achieved by natural/fixed lighting.

Lighting is crucial for both photography and videography. And one of the issues I mostly come into, is overexposed background. So having the ability to expose the subject AND the background with clipping highlights and shadows is a plus for me. And I love his technique to use not one, but two lights! He uses the other light to create a fake sun which is really interesting. I would definitely use it more for videography stuff, but I can use it to photograph portraits and products photos.

Very interesting and useful video, thank you Aries & Godox!
The use of the two AD300Pro's one with soft light to give a tone to the ambient and one with hard light (with or without barn doors) to create patches of light is what triggered my curiosity the most!
I would looooove to give it a try soon! 🤩
The AD300Pro is definitely my dream strobe 😍😍😍

I love how he made the one light to add in slices of light, and then just fill a bit on the Shadows with the umbrella light for softness. For me since it the fall and getting close to the spooky season. I would take the two light to make a scary theme shoot. Using one light to act like the sun or event a fall moon with barn doors (or possible grid it) and gels and then use the second light to give a big of under-fill on the subject to make them look spooky and scary or place it a bit on the left of the subject and use a umbrella🎉 to give the soft light look while taking the second light place Behind to light the background. My final set up for two light would be place both light behind the subject low to the grown and using them like car head light (could even grid them or barn door them to give another look) with enough power to give me all most silhouette of the subject and then can add in a reflector to just fill in the subject for another look. That how I would use two of the ad 300 .

Beautiful pictures as always! Could you help us understand why the need for a hard light reflector with the translucent umbrella? What could you achieve over and above a bare bulb, or with the native AD300pro reflector? Many thanks

The translucent umbrella is fill light to lighten up the shadow. The hard light is like he said to mimick the sun because he is shooting outdoor so it makes more sense than using 2 umbrellas for soft light. He also said you can place the hard light anywhere as kicker light or mainlight...

Thanks for your reply. I can understand the use of the hard light reflector to mimic the sun, but Aries also used a hard light reflector for the AD300 mounted to the translucent umbrella. Would that not narrow down the light path through the umbrella creating a smaller light source, hence reducing the ability of the umbrella to create a soft light? I'd like to understand. Cheers @@phongnguyentuan56

@@kaosiungtaichung9925 Shoot through umbrellas lose a lot of light. I think this was out of power necessity as the hard reflector he's using in conjunction with the umbrella will direct more of the light into the umbrella and "increase" the power.

    • @AriesTao
      @AriesTao 11 місяців тому +2

The umbrella comes with a screw, makes it easier to secure the umbrella attachment,

Hi Godox, sorry to ask this question here but--I am shooting 4x5 film tabletop work and need about 6000ws of power for my sets. When I was an assistant, we used to use Broncolor, or ganged up a bunch of Speedotron or Norman strobes and packs, and some lucky photogs had old Ascor strobes capable of putting 40,000ws through one flash head. Any suggestions?

There is a mechanical problem with umbrellas attach :
    - rft-17 umbrella clip is too close from the bowl and interfering with the S2 handle and rotule and it "scratches". Not nice. Screw is a must however to hold a heavy umbrella like ub-130
    - ad300pro handle is perfect for lot of situations but it has no screw for umbrella and in vertical orientation the UB-130 drops against ad300pro under its own weight. same for S2 bracket. A optional screw would be a must
How do you adjust the RFT-17 with respect to the diffuser to illuminate the whole parabole ? currently i am attaching the S2 bracket aligned on the line between black body and silver annular and leave bare bulb radiating in all directions. Is rft-17 better ?

Some where interesting but for the most part I felt the effect was too artificial and strong
