So how come Trump has been cited by presidential Historians as the worst president, even lower now than Buchanan. Incidentally Obama is the 7th best & President Biden is the 14th.
As someone who is very much on the fence about Trump, predominately because of doubts over his NATO commitment, that was quite a reassuring interview that he appears generally committed to NATO as long as there's an equal commitment of other states to meet the defence budget targets, which he's justified in pointing out. That said whilst I can see his reasoning, ultimately to split NATO at this time would be unwise. A better position I believe would be to pressure countries failing to meet the target to reach that contribution level. Regardless of this, it would be ideal for Europe to boost it's forces anyway to be able to contain Russia on it's own, this would free up the United States to focus on containing China without having to worry about containing things on two fronts.
I think he was always trying to illustrate that it had become totally useless as an organisation, basically to try and get a rise out of them, to effectively wake them up about what's happening with Europe etc. But this will also have negative effects in that NATO states don't really want security delivered by other NATO countries (e.g. the idea of being kept safe by certain NATO countries is actually worse than just not doing anything at all!). You'll know what I mean when you see them...

In your interview with the black British journalist, sorry, I didn't catch her name, she said something that needs correcting. She said that American blacks have always voted for Democrats. That's not true.
The Democratic Party was the party of black slavery and Jim Crow. Virtually all Confederate politicians were formerly Democrats in the Antebellum South, and during the Civil War, President Lincoln had to deal politically with the Northern Democrat minority in the Congress who were sympathetic to slavery and the Confederacy. After the war, when Southern Democrats took loyalty oaths and were allowed to hold public office again, they immediately enacted "black laws" across the South condemning the freed black population to a hundred years of Jim Crow segregation and discrimination. The Ku Klux Klan was a Democrat institution not only in the South but in the North as well. Denver's old international airport, Stapleton, was named after a 1930s mayor who was a leader in the Klan. American blacks were staunchly Republican for nearly a hundred years. As someone who is very much on the fence about Trump, predominately because of doubts over his NATO commitment, that was quite a reassuring interview that he appears generally committed to NATO as long as there's an equal commitment of other states to meet the defence budget targets, which he's justified in pointing out. That said whilst I can see his reasoning, ultimately to split NATO at this time would be unwise. A better position I believe would be to pressure countries failing to meet the target to reach that contribution level.
Regardless of this, it would be ideal for Europe to boost it's forces anyway to be able to contain Russia on it's own, this would free up the United States to focus on containing China without having to worry about containing things on two fronts.
I think he was always trying to illustrate that it had become totally useless as an organisation, basically to try and get a rise out of them, to effectively wake them up about what's happening with Europe etc. But this will also have negative effects in that NATO states don't really want security delivered by other NATO countries (e.g. the idea of being kept safe by certain NATO countries is actually worse than just not doing anything at all!). You'll know what I mean when you see them...
