I hope this game gets a nomination for GOTY, and maybe win best indie or best soundtrack even.
I find it really interesting hearing about the issues you ran into, because all I did was just level health to 30, level technique to 30, then just keep leveling capacity for the rest of the game until I can use all the heaviest gear, and all I used was the starting rapier, and after unlocking it I switched to the Etiquette and just kept using that, I love them because they use basically no stamina and attack really fast, and make no mistake, it is not lacking in damage at all, 30 technique and S scaling on the Etiquette never fell off, didn't have issues with stamina or capacity, but clearly that is simply due to my weapon choice, the Etiquette is light, has amazing single stat scaling and uses extremely little stamina.
Dude I got this on launch and blasted through it in a couple days and god it was tough…the mini bosses truly felt like bosses most of the time. Wholeheartedly agree, especially when it comes to the soundtrack, absolutely phenomenal ... also as far as I know the more weight you have the slower stamina regen is, that might be something many people don't realize because the game isn't very explicit about it.
This is probably the best and most honest video coverage on the game. For me it was a 9, but near the end when youre just running through the same areas with a face lift it became an 8. From Soft does this too, but they do it better
In the last area you find Arlecchino, the best VA in the game and conclude his storyline. You find another man who talks about his experience regarding reading minds through ergo, wich is a painful experience. This makes alot of sense later on when you actually see Sophia and conclude her storyline. Its more impactful. You also conclude Vegnini's storyline with this area. The area has nice ambience music going on. The lower part is intricate with quite the pathways, where it doesnt feel linear. (upper part is very linear tho because the tower keeps getting thinner the more you climb up). You fight Laxasia in this area. You fight Manus in this area. And you fight Nameless puppet and conclude geppeto's storyline in this level. Oh and you also conclude the storyline with Black Cat and Red Fox. If you don't fight them, you will really understand what they are about. They are not as bad as you think. The rewards the level give you are also nice. Quartz, Upgrade Materials and a couple of new weapons. So I wonder, you really find Fromsoftware does it better? You thought Nightmare Mensis was better? Or just entering dead Altus Plateau to have a boss rush? Or Just getting teleported to a bonfire at the end of DS3 to fight Souls of Cinder? I mean..
@@CrystronHalq yeah I liked riddler bot. I kinda wish he wasn't in his own little exposition room. But it was definately my favorite moment in the game from a story perspective
I played the game like I did dark souls 3. Greatsword and dodge. It worked out fine. I'm not ashamed to use summons. Leveling up is really fast too, so easy mode is easier too get than DS and ER. The game is not that hard if you don't want it to be. So don't be afraid to try it!
I use parrying and blocking until im out of stamina and then I dodge the next attack backwards to create distance to gain stamina back, I feel like its a lot like Sekiros stance bar, where when it would get too full you could only do perfect guards, its the same in Lies of P, if you run out of stamina you can only do perfect blocks, so to avoid that I try to create distance after trading some blows, overall the game is just so nice to give you so many variations to play, also the guarding and circling strat is totally viable against a lot of enemies
I think the thing stopping me from loving this combat system like the perfect combat system of sekiro is that you can't cancel your attack animations to parry
and that attacks & dodging cost stamina. what made sekiro fun was that as long as you could parry, you could just constantly stay in a boss' face and apply pressure. in this game you have to constantly manage the manage the stamina bar between several priorities and it's kind of a bitch when you're constantly swapping between looking at the bar and look at the animation frames of the enemy. as i'm writing this down it's dawning on my why they probably made that choice in sekiro. they want you looking at the enemy so you can read their movement. the posture bar is placed smack dab under all the action and it's huge so you can always see it in your periphery but never have to divert attention from watching the enemy. true you get guard regain from perfect parries in LOP but you still sometimes have to dodge and reposition to punish so you're wasting that tasty stamina on footing. I love this game but i think they should've stuck to either sekiro or bloodborne as the main influence. sekiro combat is very different and doesn't really mesh all that well with the slower and more methodical approach of soulsborne combat. it demands relentless pressure
I love how Laxasia just doesn't give a flyint tuck that you staggered her so she hits you a couple more times just in case you thought you had time to heal.
All I can say is that from everything I've seen online, and one NG+ boss experience, this game is DEFINITELY NOT harder than Sekiro IF you use the Specter. It will take aggro for the whole fight and you can just safely charge heavies until the boss is dead. It's baffling to me that they barely increase the bosses health for bringing in Spencer.
Manus' disruption turret is super easy to dodge, just back off and walk/run to the side. Spam dodging isn't exactly known to solve more problems than it causes lol
@cwavy_6193 the weird timings are hard to get used to, I get that it's puppets we're up against and their movements are gonna be janky and nothing like a human should, but still....I swung my saw through one of those and it didn't hit, when it fkin should have......this game has a lot of work to be done before it's even mentioned in the same breath as bloodborne.....
@@AlbanianThrash you're right. but by now I thought developers should be at least trying to get past these issues, I'm on my 3rd playthrough, and still finding new little nuances to the gameplay, it's a great game but not even on a par with bloodborne imho, which is a much older game and has obviously inspired the developers of this game......with the more advanced tech available the genre should be moving forward, this is not a step forward
The equip load issue you mentioned only happens if you max str/dex like you do in normal souls games. Maxing capacity > advance > everything else lets you take very little damage and kill bosses in only a couple minutes.
i think the environmental/enemy designs deserve a medal. The art and design in this game is the best art ive EVER seen in any game like this including fromsoft. Also, the people who designed fable art should pat themselves on the back for making some of the most satisfying thing ive felt in a long time. The only negative thing I have to say is about the scaling, but ONLY because they put it on gamepass. I enjoyed the challenge, but if ur gonna cater to a more casual audience u either gotta tone enemies down, tone us up, or add a difficulty modifier. There are hardly any souls likes on the gamepass, and doing this would create a lot more traction for this genre. Thats the only negative thing i have to say. except for laxasia's 2nd phase. whoever designed that is evil af LOL
Laxasia's 2nd phase (actually the entire fight) is the best non-FS boss I've ever faced. I played Nioh1-2 (didn't finish Nioh 2 though), Surge 1-2, Pascal's Wager, Thymesia, SteelRising, OG Lords of the Fallen and every FS game. The first time ever actually where I felt like FS quality boss design in a non FS game. She's a hybrid of Genichiro, nameless king and Dragonslayer Armour that just works.
@@conniefan123 I didn’t say that. I said it should also be able to appeal to a casual audience if they want the game to be super successful. Bc it’s on gamepass more people automatically get access to it, and if they want people to buy their dlc they want more playing, correct?
asking for difficulty settings in a soulslike in 2023 is crazy. this matter was pretty much resolved when sekiro won goty and the answer was resoundingly "no"
@@Crusading I haven't even played a souls game and yet I've been enjoying Lies of P, there doesn't need to be difficulty options. The summons on major bosses already tweak the difficulty enough, the only boss I didn't beat on the first try with summons was the archbishop, and even then I beat him on my third-ish try. (I just beat Mad Clown Puppet for perspective)
The clown: grab literally anything with perfect block (the umbrella can also work, but it takes two blueberry meters), buy the perfect block grease from Vegnini OR buy consumables from red lobster boi Door Guardian: bowling balls+perfect block/perfect block grease. For enemies/bosses too quick to hit with a strong attack for a critical: b o w l i n g b a l l
That's a point I think should be talked about more. The stamina and the equip load. I think it really does detract from the enjoyment factor for me. I found myself kind of unable to level other stats because I constantly had to level equip load to be able to accommodate some of those boss charms (which I still don't understand why tf they were so damn heavy). Obviously the stamina is in the game so the player can't just keep spamming dodge, which would be much more effective in this game than in Sekiro where the enemy tracking is much stronger to force blocking and parrying. What arose of this is having to take breaks in between boss attacks where I just couldn't punish them because I had no stamina. You might be thinking what's so bad about having to take a step back from the boss to let your stamina regen, considering literally every other FromSoft game that isn't Sekiro has that going on, but I think this did actually negatively impact the flow of combat. In every normal souls game, the entire game is built around the stamina system. It takes stamina to dodge, to attack, to block or even parry. If you mess up your stamina management, you can't punish after rolling. If you get too greedy, you can't roll after attacking. In Sekiro, none of this applies. It's a constant face to face clash with the boss, and it even punishes you if you back off from the boss because they'll regain posture. That's why everyone loves to circlejerk Sekiro on how it's like a "rhythm game" or a dance, because there truly never is a break between you and the boss clashing. Lies of P has this weird thing going on where it's the Sekiro parry/posture break system, but the stamina bar is still there. What this basically results in is in the scenario where you just spent all your stamina punishing the boss, due to stamina recovering slower while you're guarding, after blocking/parrying the boss's next attack string, you're unable to punish. This is by no means a deal breaker for me, but it happens to me more than I'd like, and I notice it every time. This is of course a natural consequence to having an effective dodge in the game like Bloodborne. What this stamina/parrying mixed system resulted in was a game that I don't think plays nearly as satisfyingly and naturally as Sekiro, nor as smoothly as Bloodborne (where it's fully focused on dodging) due to the fury attacks, which either force you to parry or to run away. Granted, that's only if I nitpick on the bad points of the combat system and compare it to two other critically acclaimed games. It is by all means a fantastic game that has quite seamlessly managed to combine two of FromSoft's most beloved games. Okay, internet essay from a random internet shitter over. I'll get back to studying for finals.
Dude, let me tell you fighting laxasia was probably the best experience I would’ve ever gotten out of a game. It reminded me so much a Final Fantasy because the way that she was way bigger than me way stronger than me, but it was so much fun like I literally wanted to repeat, her boss fight so much because it was one of my favorites oh, and to anybody that gave me tips on the door guardian it worked, and I finally am able to finish the game, not as beautifully as I thought because I had to grind a lot of ergo but at least I’m near the endgame which I never thought I would say because it’s been probably the most difficult game I’ve ever ever played😂
the game i didn't knew would take the spot as my personal favorite of 2023, i played a shit ton. Got the platinum too, amazing i loved every bit, and now we got a DLC and sequel confirmation

i had no idea that perfect parries actually heal your guard regain. that makes guarding romeo's full fire combo an actually viable strategy.
i might try that...
its a p organ upgrade. eventually they also can heal your weapon durability and take zero stamina
as someone who is horrible at timing the parry in this game. that intro is the most satisfying thing i've ever seen in my life! the great ass music from the game going along with it. oml. chills.
The song at the start is "Lie of P | OST - Someday"
Great video, I really hope also that you found out that P doesn't die at the end, without the mask on you can see him twitch and sophia smiles, she also leaves a letter for you at gepetto's desk if you don't immediately continue into NG+.
I hope this game gets a nomination for GOTY, and maybe win best indie or best soundtrack even.
Also kinda missed the emotional impact of P crying because of the donkey mask 🥺😭
@@VongolaChouko I hated that stupid mask 😆 i loved the white lady's outfit with the silver hair so clean
Having light load gives much better stamina regen.
A man once said lies of p had the greatest soundtrack and I would agree
I think Bioshock Infinite soundtrack is better. This games borrows from it in a lot of ways
You should do some challenge runs of this, I’d love to see that
Door guardian was super easy. Just only target the leg. Romeo phase 2 was the real pain
Door guardian was a struggle until I learned he only really takes damage from fatal attacks, after that he was a breeze.
I found he receives a lot of dmg via fatal ttacks after just oarrying with the katana and see the bar go half the hp
I love the... style of the game. Gameplay, theme, and art.
Feel and Quixotic are my favorite songs. Pity you can’t listen to them outside the hotel
Dude I got this on launch and blasted through it in a couple days and god it was tough…the mini bosses truly felt like bosses most of the time. I just replayed it for the second time and I don’t know if I’m just playing better or the nerfs are to blame. I have had a blast with it and can’t wait for their next chapter in the series.
been waiting for skums video on this game, this game is absolutely amazing and im glad this game is getting the recognition it deserves
With Stamina they just buffed capacity, so its not longer a issue.
They went: oh you like bloodborne? Now perfect parry everything
dude the intro to this video is fuego! I was on the fence about getting lies of p for weeks and you decided it for me in less than a minute and a half.
keep up the good work, i love both your longform and more edited content.
Laxasia exerpt of the video being called "Mommy" and Simon Manus part being called "Pain and Misery" is relatable asf lmao
Honestly this game is the only soulsbourne that you could trick someone into believing from designed ... it's sooo good just got through the grand exhibition and I'm so sad I'm near the end
Its not that close to endgame
i would argue that BioShock, bloodborne, sekiro and the movie; extraordinary league of gentleman had an orgy, then Elden ring gave birth to this.
Unfortunately never played Sekiro or Finished Bloodborne they are on my backlog of games to play and finish but lies of P hooked me through and through I absolutely love that I struggled about half way through I realized consumables and spectres were saving me and just started learning to parry and block was a much better option and the lore I didn't even know until they said geppetto that this was Pinocchio lmao one of my gotys for sure
Don’t even bother with Sekiro . I’ll save you plenty of time and anger . It’s not worth it
That sounds like the lament of a , what do you call it , Casual 😂 Sekiro is a god tier game
@@OneHunnitNoCapStannitOnBidnisz sekiro isnt even hard
@@CrystronHalqyou are hard-core dick riding this game, it's good but calm down.
I played the game like I did dark souls 3. Greatsword and dodge. It worked out fine. I'm not ashamed to use summons. Leveling up is really fast too, so easy mode is easier too get than DS and ER. The game is not that hard if you don't want it to be. So don't be afraid to try it!
Skumnuts humour is so fkn good
That intro was absolute 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I wasn't sure about getting this game but now I'm definitely getting it.
my fav part is when p lies
P comes from Paracelsus
I use parrying and blocking until im out of stamina and then I dodge the next attack backwards to create distance to gain stamina back, I feel like its a lot like Sekiros stance bar, where when it would get too full you could only do perfect guards, its the same in Lies of P, if you run out of stamina you can only do perfect blocks, so to avoid that I try to create distance after trading some blows, overall the game is just so nice to give you so many variations to play, also the guarding and circling strat is totally viable against a lot of enemies
Im almost at NG+2 and ive never even attempted any + for a FromSoft game. I can say with confidence i love this game more than any souls/soulslike
do they add anything in ng+??
this game is easier than any other souls game so makes sense
@@FaffyWaffle968 u think this game is easier then any other souls game? have u played this game??
@@BurnInBliss 100% this game is easy. Any game that lets you block and you take no damage is an automatic easy in my book.
@@FaffyWaffle968 you take damage and a lot of times u can’t always regain the guard regain hp fully or block whole combos so idk what ur talkin about
plot twist: taking mechanics from your favorite game and refining them in combination with your own ideas and differences equal good game
In case anyone is wondering the reason they tease Wizard Of Oz is because Like the story Pinoccio it's creative commons.
laxasia and romeo give me melania vibes
I love how Laxasia just doesn't give a flyint tuck that you staggered her so she hits you a couple more times just in case you thought you had time to heal.
All I can say is that from everything I've seen online, and one NG+ boss experience, this game is DEFINITELY NOT harder than Sekiro IF you use the Specter. It will take aggro for the whole fight and you can just safely charge heavies until the boss is dead. It's baffling to me that they barely increase the bosses health for bringing in Spencer.
You're not wrong, but this is low-key gatekeeping...
Soul veterans aint love you mate. No summon allowed 🤣
Manus' disruption turret is super easy to dodge, just back off and walk/run to the side. Spam dodging isn't exactly known to solve more problems than it causes lol
i loved it when gepedo p'd all over p
LMAO Door Guardian made me take a break for a day 😂😂
very impressed with this one, felt very awkward at first but once you adjust, it's just a great time
@cwavy_6193 the weird timings are hard to get used to, I get that it's puppets we're up against and their movements are gonna be janky and nothing like a human should, but still....I swung my saw through one of those and it didn't hit, when it fkin should have......this game has a lot of work to be done before it's even mentioned in the same breath as bloodborne.....
@@ryanlafferty5815you're kidding right. fs games are notoriously littered with tracking and shitbox shenanigans. none of this is new.
Maxing capacity > advance > everything else lets you take very little damage and kill bosses in only a couple minutes.
aint advance only works on elemental damage ?
@@KUNAIfeverspeedruners use more advance than anything bc enemies have weaknesses (Human-acid, Robots-electric, Carcass-Fire)
Song in the intro?
Lies of P OST | Someday - French Song
My brain does NOT like the movements of these bosses. Creeps me TF OUT
The stam regeneration in this is actually faster than Dark Souls you just need to manage your weight.
That’s intro was f-ing amazing you are a beast at this game
i think the environmental/enemy designs deserve a medal.
Only casual and easy games can be on gamepass? Where did this come from
Laxasia's 2nd phase (actually the entire fight) is the best non-FS boss I've ever faced.
Gepetto takes one step forward.....
Skumnut: Oh Shit! It's like Dark Souls....
Hints for anyone thinking to play this game: weaknesses actually matter and if you can't bloodborne it- sekiro it
The clown: grab literally anything with perfect block (the umbrella can also work, but it takes two blueberry meters), buy the perfect block grease from Vegnini OR buy consumables from red lobster boi
Door Guardian: bowling balls+perfect block/perfect block grease.
For enemies/bosses too quick to hit with a strong attack for a critical: b o w l i n g b a l l
The editing on these videos is getting noticeably better.
The quality of skumnut's videos have improved drastically bro I've been laughing through the whole vid so far because of these edits
That intro was perfect.
6:41 when you're fighting and watching that your best friend is running away..
21:40 Holy crap, the mighty Billy Yoel blessed you on the anniversary of your birth, what a prestigious honor!
Door guardian has a trick to the fight. It allows you to nuke super fast
the first series of live streams I actually got to watch lovely.
thanks for tuning in
Thanks dude!
I've been fighting the damn puppet king like 25 times today. Worst thing is usually phase 1 is super easy but then phase 2 can be a straight pain.
thank you kumnut for filling me up with this wonderful 1 hour long video
The perfect block in lies of p feels more tight than sekiro
Thats because it is
was gonna say parrying is basically giving room for an attack, but perfect blocking is just negating the attack. but then i realized one was parrying and the other thing i was talking about is just a counter attack
NGL skum that intro bit with the bosses and the french song goes hard
Stamina Regen is tied to weight, you get better Regen from being Light than the Stamina Regen Ring. They did update weight issues in the 1.2 update.
Bro must be the first person to die to laxasia of all people💀
I played this on launch and I was very skeptical going in but it absolutely blew me away with how perfectly they made this game. Top notch visuals. Beautiful music. A fighting system that's fast paced again. 10/10
Fantastic game on my third play through once you've familiarised the attacks/parry it soon becomes fantastic!
“Lies of Pinocchio” just sounds like a Skumnut game
Lies of paracelsus
I never realized the king of puppets was actually warning us about Geppettos plan in the intro.
The funniest weapon I made was with the murderer’s dagger on the handle used at 3:03. Literally just an auto stabby kitchen knife lmao
Bro the craziest thing is you can start at the furthest end of the boss arena perfect parry all attacks and the boss pushes you back to the entrance like wtf
bros on the green monster of the swamp
Nah the song choice for lies of p montage chefs kiss 💚 one of my favs in the whole game
if Sekiro had a merchant and less finite items like the rest of the games I would have finished it. the absolute worst having to farm for items that you should be able to buy.
8:15 just casually predicts one of the biggest plot twists in the game
I think that people who played Sekiro, have a higher chance to perfect parry hits from enemies in Lies Of P.
