      It's a lot better than what usually happens to pet fish.
      Most kept fish die slow, agonizing deaths from ammonia burn at the hands of inexperienced fishkeepers who buy them on a whim.
      Oftentimes they'll die while still at the store.
      If you ever visit the aquarium section of a pet shop and notice black stripes on their fins - that's ammonia burn and it's very painful for the little guys.

      So maybe he should consider not keeping so many fertilized eggs rather than cull healthy babies. I mean, they are actual animals and alive. fish have tons of eggs and make so many babies because for certain animals (like many fish and frogs), it’s quantity over quality so at least some of them survive and that’s also probably why so many have defects in the first place

      @@Marlieeme no offense, but what is the difference between culling fry and culling an egg? I hate to hear "it's just a fish" when people are keeping adult fish in bad conditions, but respectfully, it's just a fish. I think you're entitled to deal with the eggs and fry in whatever way you see fit, the fry don't suffer, they just lose consciousness. I think we'll probably just have to disagree as I simply don't see anything wrong with humanely culling unneeded fry, where you do, and that's fine

    We raised angel fish and plecostomus. I also raised rare catfish. My husband would cull them because I couldn’t. Once he tried culling a couple by feeding it to the cat. He tossed them in the ground. I did don’t know he was culling them so I scooped them back up and tossed them back into the grow out box. He would also freeze them to use as food. I’ll never forget when he asked me to feed the fish the food he made and froze. He told me to just punch a piece off to see if the fish would eat it. I pinched a piece off with my bare fingers and freaking lost it when I saw an eye staring at me! I’m still traumatized when I think of it.

      It's been awhile but I believe I was just glad this guy was specifically mentioning his younger audience and was being courteous for their sake. It's a good quality, and one as a parent I appreciate. So many people in the world just don't care and make content that has no moral compass. No regard. Younger children are just that. Children. Why is everyone so eager to familiarize kids on things like violence, death, sexuality, as if the earlier we expose them the better off they will be? You go ahead and parent how you want, (if you even have kids) and I'll raise mine. Who coincidentally aren't little cussers, aren't bullies, and care about people around them. 👌

Op was tasked with euthanizing the fish and he did it by putting the fish in a a bag and swing it into a smash against their countertop. Since that was how he killed fishes when he went fishing with his family when he was little, it never occurred to op an alternative route.1

    How do you pick the perfect goldfish?

    • @steve_the_springtails
      @steve_the_springtails 2 роки тому +5

      Every goldfish is perfect in their own special way. The way you pick which need culled is looking for any deformities or illnesses. Scoliosis is very common in the fish keeping world and will leave a fish to a miserable life Or so people say. I've gotten fish with Scoliosis at the petstore and they've fully recovered once out of the stores shit tank water or just die a assuming painful there really isn't a inbetween. However I'd imagine if the fish was born in your tank knowing the water parameters are good and they still have Scoliosis or signs of a diseases that will mess with growth there probably isn't much besides clove oil that will help. That being said I don't euthanize my fish I'm also not a breeder but I don't think it's right that we can't euthanize terminally ill humans but animals are perfectly fine to kill.
