I think I dislocated something
so you're in a better shape than me, because I'm pretty sure I dislocated something.
I'm pretty sure it's your thumb!
Me too
the likes on this comment is now 420
Taylor Simpson I did too at the start! 🤣🤣😂😂👍🏼
After 2 months of hard work and practice , I can say I have successfully tuned my e to a c
Hahaha! I actually burst out laughing when I read this 😅
Hahahahaha this is one of the funniest things I’ve ever read and this is soooo damn true I spent soooo long with the string it’ll be like ooooohh it’s there oops nope to flat ooooohhhh nope to sharp dammit!
This comment was copied from the John Mayer Live in LA performance of Neon. Lol :D
Hilarious 😂
I just waited for ‘’I can say that I have successfully learned this😁’’
So ahahha that suprised me
This is hands down the most easiest tutorial of Neon on youtube. Cheers mate.
Really pleased you think so.
The easiest*, either you add "est" in the end or you use "most", never both :)
@@stanleythehandsome5402 You must be fun at parties
@@1996Bagheera alchohol turns me from grammar nazi into more normal person ( jokes aside I dont consider my behaviour any wrong, I think that getting feedback while learning a language is pretty important think and I would welcome aby critique since english isn't my first language )
Definitely makes it more manageable for people who lack Mayer's gigantic hands.
Why am I even watching this? Im still trying to learn Blackbird by The Beatles ffs
LMAOO this made my night
You learn by challenging yourself. There's nothing wrong about watching a video that you think is outside of your current level
Blackbird is pretty easy to learn if you use Songsterr's tab. Shouldn't take too long depending on yohr current skill level.
@A Paid NASA Shill
It isnt really. I have discovered that the best way is to find that one song you want to play, but then learn other techniques required, and practice with other songs before actually attempting to learn the song you really wanted to play. That approach not only is more effective, but learn other techniques means you also learnt as a consequence even more songs.
@@desfefe I don't know about that, there's a lot to be said about motivation here. If you learn what you like, you'll be a lot more motivated to keep trying, but just learning techniques is not at all motivating and requires a lot more patience.
Nvm
Lmao
Same
Hahaha 100%
Aight guys ... after 2 weeks .. I can finally play it but a little slower than the original tempo .. to whoever’s reading this .. hope you get it down too 😊
How’s it going now?
I learned it in 2 hours
@@williamdevine9307 weird flex but okay
I learned the verse in 1 day but it's hard to play at a faster tempo. I cam play it with .75 speed on the live in LA vid.
how's it oging after 6 months ma mans? you reached those 150bpm yet?
man I don’t think people realize how good of a teacher you are, keep up the good work.
Thanks man, appreciate that.
holy shit this is a lot easier after trying to learn it two years ago
Yeah, its the mentality man, all the people saying this is impossible are cucking themselves
@@DanneoYT An excuse to not practice hard enough is what that sounds like. People play it so clearly it's possible, they just don't want to try I guess.
@@skyblue2708 Its better to practice smart than hard, and sometimes a piece may just be out of your skill level but it wouldnt hurt to try and be humbled by it
@@DanneoYT same with stop this train i feel like its a lot less hard than people make it out to be
and then your going to sing over top of this.
... I hadn't thought that far yet
With thousands of people watching you
Jhon Mayer is a máster, even Clapton say that, its like other hokaguee saying that you are really máster to,
hahaha!
On the "impossible" thumb chord, it really helped me to switch from ring finger to pinky instead of sliding the ringfinger. I found that chord nearly impossible to fret using the ring finger on the 6th fret of the D-string, but using my pinky made it a lot more manageable, hope this helps someone else struggling who doesn't have enormous thumbs!
I tried it and it's much easier thanks!!!
I think as with all impossible chords and transitions you just start out with a slow and shitty version and you gradually impove it. I have practiced it for an hour 3 days now and while still awkward it improved a lot. I vastly prefer fretting barre chords to the thumb wrap around though, even though my fingers are longish it's just so much more uncomfortable.
thank you so much for the amazing tip!
Yeah it really pulls at the thumb knuckle joint in a bad way
Also using the ring finger instead of thumb works
I've got the chords and the picking pattern down, now i just need to work on my transitions and my speed, this is such a helpful tutorial I can't believe this lesson is free for everyone to see on the internet, looking forward to learning the rest on your website!
How's your progress now mate?
Same I need to focus on transition speed and fluidity
@@CrimeVaultUK getting the chords is like 2%of the process. I've learned the chords in a couple of hours, and it's been weeks and weeks of trying to get any sort of fluidity
KILLER tutorial dude! I’ve wanted to learn this song pretty much since I started playing guitar but had never fully tackled it! Got the shapes and picking hand motion down, now to practice my way to full speed! 🤙🏽
you gotta learn the live version intro tho its not complete without it
Yay I can play the first 5 notes now ...progress has been made slowly but surely
Samu Sammale keep up that positivity for real
How s your progress now?
2:18 lol I instantly started playing another one bites the dust all with slap.
Nice name
Same haha
I literally did the exact same thing
Same here, I think it starts off with a C note
@@Wildart2 it starts with a A note.
On the E string it goes:
5-3-0-0-0 0-0-0-3-5
I am a decent guitar player, but my thumb doesn' t do that
John Mayer isn’t mortal
Don't use your thumb then. Use other fingers there's not just one rule to playing a chord 🙂
@@hannahchapman2616 you know human have just 5 fingers right?
@@omersiton8932 😂 👌
also mayer use his thumb to slide from 8th to 10th fret
The original song is at 102 bpm. After 2 days of practice I am at 70 bpm. Many people believe it's the hardest riff but the structure of the riff is actually very logical and repeats itself. Great tutorial.
procrastinating study so hard that i learnt this in a day
Godamn
Time well spent then, well done
Me too I got exams soon
What the fuck... How
Same here bro same here
I imagined this was by far out of my level but you actually made it really understandable for me, after one day full of practice I kinda got it down. thx chris
at last somebody that actually made a proper video , man u earned a loyal subscriber .
People, just start trying. I'm one year in playing guitar and started playing neon 3 days ago and I'm already making noticeable progress. 3rd day and I can play the first 2 chords in 0.5x. Not enough but atleast I'm getting somewhere.
Update that no one asked : I can play the whole riff at the original speed after 6 days. (not of the live version, the original soundtrack's speed.)
This is the only neon tutorial I’ve ever seen that gets the whole riff right. Well done!
Best I've seen on "Neon" by far. Kudos!
Thanks a lot man.
It’s taken the whole world to be in lockdown due to a pandemic for me to try and learn this. :/
You're the best! The best teaching method, very detailed, precise and clear.
Thank you very much!
First time hearing you play the main riff, I instantly clicked like
And when I heard all your lessons and tabs were free on your website, you had my subscription as well!
Cheers man❤️
Playing this at half speed right now, I’ve noticed playing with the correct picking pattern make the percussion flow so much better. Thanks for showing that!
Happy one-year channel-iversary! Looking forward to another year of great content! Keep it up! Your channel is my absolute favorite!
Thanks a lot! I REALLY appreciate that. It's been an interesting year, I feel like I've learnt a lot but at the same time I still have soooo much to learn/do. Thanks for your support!
Thanks for uploading this video lesson !! ive got this song ringing in my head tonight and luckily i saw this and make me master the riff in just a few hours. Have a good day mr. *cheerss*
You can literally see on his guitar how much he practiced this
What are u talking about
Finished learning the main riff and about to go learn the intro/ chorus/ bridge at your website. HUGE thank you to you for this man
This is by far the best lesson on this song out there!!!
thank you chris.... I’ve been going through your videos since January and was intimidated by this one for quite a bit but decided to give it a try and it’s not as challenging to learn as I anticipated! All thanks to your great teaching👍
Excellent walkthrough of the chords and how to play it. It actually clicked faster than I thought it would though, I guess learning Stop this Train helped with the slapping and thumb+pointing finger tapping. Thank you! :)
You're a genius! Love your videos. I've been waiting for this tutorial for a long time now and really appreciate your effort in making this possible… Thanks a lot!!!! Greetings from Argentina!
Marcos Spatz it’s an absolute pleasure, really happy you like it!
Th’e best neon lesson On UA-cam. Most accurate by far. You are the only one getting the second og Third ghosted rythm notes On spot. Perfect percussion Sound the makes all the difference. Thanks a million. You are really great :)
I always end up on this video. Here we go, 7th time trying to learn's a charm
BROTHER! Thank you for this walkthrough practice! I'm able to follow it properly, thank you!
Got to say the way that you slowly build on the song was incredible for teaching very well done and amazing tutorial!!!
Excellent Lesson- your picking mechanics description at 3:26 is very clear. Thanks for that
That's great, really glad it's helped you out.
What a good quarantine with this man! Thank u.
no nonsense. love it. you had me familiar with all the shapes and chords by the second watch through. ill probably have this song perfected by the end of the weekend. cheers man! thanks!
Dude, you are an amazing teacher! Most straightforward tutorial of Neon I have seen! I can’t play it like you yet, but I am really encouraged that I might someday. Keep it up!
Thanks a lot man, appreciate it. You'll be able to play it in time I'm sure.
Great video man! As for the hard chords, I couldn’t even hold my fingers in those positions in the beginning but after doing them again and again I can finally play them with ease. Don’t give up guys! Don’t blame your “small hands”
Started learning 3 hours ago, i can do it in half speed by now! Thanks, awesome lesson!
I swear this lesson made a VERY diffucult song just that little bit easier, well done!
best lesson i've seen for this song. Great channel
I first tried to learn to play this as a 19 year old kid back in 2009. Needless to say UA-cam was far less helpful back then for this song. The tutorials were nothing compared to this.
You have my subscription sir. 14 years later and I'm back to take this on and thanks to this lesson I'm confident in another 14 years of solid practice I may have the first few chords down!
I’m so thankful that there are plenty of content out there shared about this. But everyone seems to look at the slap and tap first before simply showing the placements.
I’ll learn this, and then I’ll make a video showing the placement first, and then the slap and tap technique later.
It just makes the learning process more complicated when the slap and tap, and the placement, is taught together.
Thank you so much, this is the only good lesson for this version. You’re the only reason I can play this song.❤️
It's a pleasure Corbin, really pleased you can play it.
Excellent work mate. This is literally the best guitar tutorial on a song I have ever seen, especially one with such an odd technique that is a little difficult to nail. I’ve been playing guitar for over 20 years and I think you are the best I’ve seen at breaking down songs. I’ve also seen several other videos and it’s the same top notch quality throughout
Thanks so much, I really appreciate it
Best lesson by far! Thank you! I'' practicing so hard.
Best tutorial there is. Learned it in less then than a day. thank you man.
It's a pleasure Allen.
Great tutorial. Probably the best one on YT! Helped me alot 🙏
September 2020 and this is the best neon guitar tutorial hands down
SUPER tutorial!!! Thanks very much!
Not going to lie, I’ve been fingerpicking for about 2 years now and I’ve gotten pretty good now and haven’t really had that hard of a time learning up to this point. It feels good to be humbled.
I’ve been practising this song for roughly 1 year n I can finally sing while playing it
this is the best way to explain a great song! congratulation and thanks a lot mate
wow i been practicing hour and a half and I already dominated the first part, great video!!
I never thought learn this, but after 3 hours I almost have it down if I play it at a slightly slower tempo. Thank you for making such a simple tutorial that I could follow. For everyone who’s getting frustrated push through it because after only playing guitar for a month I was able to get this, it just took time.
Mangifera Indica YOU ARE INSANE MAN! AMAZING JOB 😁. It is unbelievable that only after a month of playing, you’ve reached this level. That is fucking crazy man, I’ve been playing for a couple of years and I’m nowhere near this. Keep practicing man, you’re awesome!
Krish Dutta Thank you! This means a lot!
Lmao you dident learn this in 3 hours after a month of playing peole that have been playing for 20. Plus years have taken days to learn this
You are such a good player. Just purchased your 101 patterns. More (percussive) John Mayer type stuff PLEASE!
PascalsWager5 thanks a lot man, I really appreciate that. I hope you like the course too! If you do, a short testimonial would really mean a lot to me.
Next week we’re going to do all the percussive stuff to Neon. Prepare yourself, as it’s pretty tricky! So much fun.
Started watching two days ago, and I can proudly say that I’ve successfully completed this and I feel ten times cooler now so thanks man
I must say this is the best tutorial on UA-cam.
Awesome lesson!
The best teaching of neon and shortest but good.
I think I’ve seen almost all tutorials on neon …this one is the most understandable thanks
after two hours i got it, thanks mate i would never thought i could achieve this masterpiece
Tuning the A string sharper to match the E (C) at Fret 10 makes the last chord much much easier
Thank you for this great tutorial!
Great tutorial. Thank You!
Best tutorial yet man, thanks heaps ❤️
Awesome video, took me 2 days about 5 hours total, because of your great video!
Thnks for making my dream come true.. specially with your another intro video....
I will do this, thanks! I got the picking pattern down, am going to write down those chords now so I won't forget
I will save and like
thank you, best teacher ever
I always say, when something is teached and is easier than you think, you have a good teacher
That's very kind, thanks a lot
Great tutorial thanks!
This tutorial is so helpful thank u!!!
Very clear, thank you!
Trying to learn this song since 1 year.. But still stuck on fingerpicking.. Thanks man you have done really amazing work.. Cheers
Kudos to this teacher. That is one hard piece to play.
your explanation of the right hand technique has been the easiest to understand on yt by far for me, amazing work
Thanks so much
thank you so much. I have wanted to learn this song for a long time and you were a great teacher
Thanks, you're very welcome
Thanks! Great tutorial!✨
Been playing for 25 years. Every 8 years or so I give this one a go. F this song. My hands just simply aren’t big enough for it. I know I’ve got the talent for it, I just can’t reach it. Kudos to you that pulled it off. 8:14
I am a beginner and my fretting hand is burning after practicing this, but almost got it not giving up, thank you for the tutorial mate :)
Dude, I can’t believe how good this tutorial is, AND it’s for free!!
Thanks man, glad you like it.
i practiced the intro and the parts in this vid for a week and can now play it full speed, so to all y'all struggling, just dont stop. it really pays off in the end
Great tutorial man. I can play now this song thanks to you!
Really pleased to hear it.
brilliant tutorial. bravo.
Started learning this about an hour ago. Got the chords, got the notes, now I just need to work on that timing and speed
Thank you for sharing dude
very good lesson
man, doing those last two chords quickly is gonna take some time.
Update, I can do it now, quite well, and almost at full speed.
But I noticed an issue with the smoothness on the last two chords.
I got into a habit of lifting my middle finger off the B string between the chords (albeit extremely briefly).
Am relearning again at slower pace, leaving my middle finger on - to slide down from 9th to 8th fret.
great tutorial, you play it so good too.
Man you explained this so well instead of making it complicated. Subbed.
Thanks man.
thank you.
so much helpful buddy...keep it up
Glad it's helped you out.
Damn I'm glad I was a pianist before learning that song, it sure helps
Perfect!
Chris you are the bomb! ❤️
