- Gurindervir Singh won gold in the men's 100m sprint at the recently concluded National Federation Athletics Championships held in Bhubaneswar. With heartening timings, the Jalandhar-born athlete hopes to make the national record his own soon.

I can see a silver lining in Indian sprinting scene. There are at least 4 (or more) sprinters around the 10.25 second mark (Gurinder, Amlan, Manikanta, Amiya). I think there should be more races among them with good prize money, streamed live on TV. This can finance their further training and improve their timings. The light is not far, they can inspire the next wave of sprinters to be under 10 achievers (if not themselves). But without a doubt, top 5 in India in any sport should earn well enough to be able to comfortably finance their trainings.
In a recent interview i heard that he have only 1 coach for all his trainings nd coach earn 18,000 per month. 🥲

I wish him well. May he improve and win it all. But to put things in perspective, the Indian National record is 10.23 seconds! in the US the High School 100-meter record stands at 10.13 seconds! National record is 9.69! Those huge challenges to overcome. And if he has not done sub-10 seconds thus far, it is unlikely he is going to win races at the International level, though he could dominate within India for many years!
