Here in ga those are YELLOW JACKETS. Hornets are bigger and dark. The best time to fight stinging incects is after dark because they usually get home before dark. If you want to fight them during the day they can lite you UP ! !

Judging by the way they acted it sounds like yellow jackets, here in Michigan I wait till dark, sprinkle Dietamaceous earth (DE) on the nest, cover with a screen to keep them there and usually gets em all. Skunks and opossums love to get into their nests

The spray you used did zero good for me. I stumbled upon a nest and used multiple can and had no effect on the hornets! I used a burn barrel over the whole and burned for more than one day. Then I was able to dig up the whole nest! It was massive under the ground!

I’ve had wasp nest on the back of the house hanging off the eves. It didn’t look big but when I sprayed it I think there was 40 wasps game out. They died pretty quick.
    Merry Christmas.

Get a pump hand sprayer and put 5-6 drops of dish soap per gallon of water. Kills wasps, hornets, bees, etc., nearly instantly on contact.

Get them after sunset. I've used that spray. But 7 dust works. It takes 2-4 days. Workers get it on them drag to rest of nest. Have them every summer in ohio. Good luck !!!! They do hurt !!!

  • @bradfigiel2203

Don't be digging at a underground nest, you may open a chamber. During the day hornets usually have sentries and will alert the nest if they sense danger.
I work for a utility in ohio and have to deal with them constantly in the summer.
Keep a 12 pack of wasp spray on site especially Florida and bee careful when opening tool boxes, utility boxes, generator cover etc. They like to build nests in the seams so you may end up putting your hand on one.

It looks like what we in southeast Louisiana call Yellow Jackets and racoons probably dug it up. I used to use Carbaryl dust sprayed from a dust sprayer. I can't fid it anymore so 7 dust works ok. I spray it down the nest entrance hole. That nest is probably toast now since it has been dug up but you can sprinkle 7 dust on it and they will get it on them if they come back. A Coke bottle of gasoline works immediately and you don't have to light it. I like to use the dust because they form a swarm above the nest covered in white powder but don't come after you. Normally they will chase and sting you multiple times until you kill them.

not hornets, yellow jackets. be glad. Hornets are way bigger and meaner. why kill the nest? they are a good part of the forest. I can see it if they were in the yard or around a place you need to mow.. Fox dig our nest up once it starts getting cold.

I have dug into several Hornets and Yellow Jacket nests. They seem to not like diesel exhaust but they really get mad,

Delta Dust is fast and safe, but expensive.

Here in South Carolina they mostly get dug up and eaten by raccoons and skunks. By the looks of the disturbed ground I’d say that’s what dug yours up.
    Great video.
Hope y’all have a Merry Christmas!!!!

I’ve gotten “lit up” A couple of times while on my tractor. Horrible. However, a weed burner and some diesel will even the score a bit! LOL!

Hedgehog will eat hornets, lizards will eat hornets and birds will eat hornets.
I would google how to treat hornets.
