    My cheap Yongnuo has lasted ages, fires inside buildings and can remote power control. So why am I wasting my money on outdated Pocket Wizards that are refusing to keep up and reduce their prices?

    Great tip as usual Ken. Did this with SB 26 with your super snoot. Dont have an assistant, but got a friend to hold it for half an hour for two cocktails. Clown eye photo on my flickr page I used this. Also if somebody holds it for you on the older flashes he can guide it right to you to make output adjustments. Couple more weeks then vagabond mini. Have you ever looked at Cactus triggers since they can learn how to control older SB's output. Cool shirt.

      +Theoria Apophasis Hey dude. Been low profile awhile after Kris had a melanoma removed from her arm. Major work on it. All aok now and one on side of her nose was not any cancer. Stitches out this Friday. Cool on the Cactus. I knew there was a reson for SB24.26,28. The clown eye was all your recommendations, snoot,sb26, tokina 100. That whole kit less than 450 bucks. already had triggers and mono.

    Also; how do you man focus with one hand while holding your flash boom? Looks cumbersome. AF no problem of course.

    I have the mini/flex system as well as the plus III's and the plus x's. And...the yongnuo 622n system. I know I'm gear crazy. Been getting misfires here and there with the mini/flex, the plus III's are flawless and believe it or not the yongnuos are pretty good. Now, I've been looking at the phottix Odin system, what do you think of that one? I like to have control of the output when shooting off camera flash..

    Shutter speed is important. The shutter speed determines the brightness of the background. Also you could also upgrade to a $5 flash bracket that has provisions for an umbrella to soften the flash.

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  8 років тому +1

      +bikefreek thats correct, however my point was freezing the subject is not a concern of shutter speed
      as for worry about background exposure its something i wanted to bleed into this series on strobist work to stop people from being afraid of strobe work
      namely making it EASY with my layering method of illumination

    If on the monopod, could just as well use a long TTL cable. Then you can use TTL (if that's your thing) and HSS for cheap.

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  8 років тому

      +Benjamin Sandness (Ben) yeah, but one good yank and youve damaged something, as has happened often.
      but far cheaper, yes.
      still cant use TTL however, not with nikon speedlights and generics.

    Is there a difference between pocket wizards and a Nikon flash trigger?

    • @TheBerkeleyGang
      @TheBerkeleyGang 8 років тому

      +Matt Guevara Nikon uses IR signal, which can be easily blocked. Radio triggers, like the pocket wizard, use radio waves that go through and around much more, providing significantly more reliability.

    • @KenTheoriaApophasis
      @KenTheoriaApophasis  8 років тому

      +Matt Guevara distance of use, and also daisy chaining them on diff. channels etc.
      the pocket lizards (haaaa) are a bit pricey :(

    I got one of these to go with my wireless flashes. Have shot buildings with a flash inside, around 20m distance through wall/windows, triggers no problem PLUS on camera control of flash power and zoom www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1108992-REG/yongnuo_yn_560_tx_yn560_tx_manual_flash_controller.html

      This is a very timely video for me because I've actually been thinking about doing something like this with my shoot through umbrellas and SB-800 (that you recommended, and I LOVE!) I'm trying to find a decent umbrella hot shoe mount to attach to a monopod.
