up until the end, chessie seemed to take pride in their locos. washing them routinely. i remember in 1979, in cincy, stockyard terminal, when they brought in a WM SD40 for a bath.(a red/black one) after the bath they put it on the turntable for a spin. and WOW! until the water dried,(5min.) it looked amazing in color!
1988: why'd you get that car in the shot? 2018: WHOA COOL LOOK AT THAT CLASSIC CAR!! Gorgeous footage. Love those SD50s -- back when they were cutting edge stuff.
I was growing up in the last days of the B&O and the Chessie years. The Chessie paint is what I grew to love and the K5LA will always be my favorite horn next to an RS5T.
I grew up in coal country next to the tracks. Used to watch trains all day. Loved Chessie System. Thanks a bunch for bringing back good times and memories
yes the classic sleep like a kitten chessie c, there was a few designs for the new csxt with a more feral and tougher looking cat but it did not catch on, which is too bad, and at least chessie cared a bit about history still, and around the time the old timers could tell you stories of steam, and the waning years, wish they were still around trying to peice togather railroad history in garrett the subdivision and half way from willard to chicago, we have an old freight shed and the old watch tower that are part of the musium for history, oh and the old coal bunker for the old powerhouse for the old backshop area that closed in 1926, artifacts and a few railcars we have, origional buildings no, only foundations, even the old oilhouse collapsed on itself and they tore it down, her platform though is still there for now. if you want to learn more I made a bunch of videos on the history I could piece togather, if only csx was not so anti steam and history now, though it might be changing since the stuff they are doing to help the kentucky steam heritage group, and the last 2 years nkp 765 while in steam was towed across a bit of csx track on the way to cayahoga valley scenic railroad though under their trackage rights the cvsr has. but trying to get them to let us bring 765 up to garret for heritage days is a no go I dont even think they would let us use a siding even for a day, but a live steam in garrett again the last of the old b and o to have steam, oh the people would come from miles around as they usually do by the hundreds to see a live mainline steam engine fired up and its sights and sounds.
I grew up on this same line, just a later section of it. I believe this is ex B&O, now CSX Chicago to Baltimore mainline. I grew up on the Ohio section as it passes through Kent Ohio. I remember what remnants of B&O remained, especially the CPLs. There was a signal light across the river from my bedroom and during the winter, the CPL would light up the snow. So these are the trains that defined my childhood and OBSESSION with trains. Well...Conrail too.
Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific both have heritage engines. I think BNSF and CSX especially should have some heritage units of their own. The railroads that CSX once were had some fantastic paint schemes and it would be great to see them nowadays.
Grew up with immediate family that worked on and in the Chessie lines. Good stuff here. If this is the same Jack that was on Google+ back in the day, it's good to see you made an impact on UA-cam as well.
Awesome video Jack! I miss the Chessie System Note how many other fallen flags their were on the 8 freights that you recoded. SOUTHERN PACIFIC. CONRAIL. As well as CHESSIE SYSTEM. Those indeed were the day's! Back in 1979 my friend's and I went on vacation to Hagerstown MD. And Shenandoah Jct. That was my first of many vacations we went on together. SEEING the 2 Western Maryland BL2's SWITCHING the yard was amazing!
Yah, That was my 77. It was a pretty nice car until the motor spun a bearing on the way to NJ on Christmas eve. LOL. I did have a new 351 installed, and ran it a few more years.
CSX will not have any old paints in the near future. the RR is in utter turmoil, and the morale is in the toilet. they will not spend the $ for repaints.
Thats too bad. There is a csx line running about a block from where i live in Illinois but its been out of service for about 2 years. Track is still there but I'm not sure it will ever be used again.
I'm hearing more and more bad things about CSXT and now it's all coming together as to why now. Last year they sold the main line that runs from Jacksonville to Mobile Alabama to Rail USA and it's now classified as a short line with very few trains running through here in Tallahassee now. We'd be lucky to see a 30 car rock train that stays empty the majority of the time. Also this line used to serve Amtrak's Sunset Limited route once
Jack, I really enjoy your videos. I've seen a few of them from Duluth, Minnesota, and I've chased many DM&IR and DW&P trains when I lived there. I now live in Versailles, Pa., and recognize many of the places you video.
Thanks Crush. You don't live to far away. I got tons more of DM&IR stuff. It just doesn't generate to many views. I don't know why. That is some really interesting stuff up there. Thanks for watching...
Thanks. Yah you can't beat the sound of thos beauties. I'd like to put a set of those on the 85 Mack Superliner I just bought. That would be neat. Thanks for watching...
I said the exact same thing!!!...I wish each railroad would get an old flagship unit whether its Alco, EMD or GE and paint it them in its heritage liveries also the make corresponding units in absorbed company liveries as well...i.e. A u36-b in Seaford System colors and a SD40-2 highhood in Southern R.R. colors etc.
I think that scheme would've looked nice on a wide-cab if they had ever made it that far. I'm guessing those helpers were manned at that point, correct?
They probably stuck around down there more, like Chessie did up north. But they did bring many Seaboard U36B's up north to run the mountains on the trailer jets. They did that very well. Thanks for watching...
Now why couldn't they have maintained some of those engines with that (adorable) heritage livery the way NS did with so many of theirs, rather than slapping blue and gray and yellow paint all over everything?? Same with the Seaboard stuff ... 😛😛
Stephane Descoteaux it become part of csx and they run everything in the ground I lived beside the tracks and the chessie system run right beside my house
Love this era. Seaboard units in the mix as well. 1988 was awesome one CSX 👍
An absolutely gorgeous paint scheme!
There's not enough color on the rails anymore
up until the end, chessie seemed to take pride in their locos.
washing them routinely.
i remember in 1979, in cincy, stockyard terminal, when they brought in a WM SD40 for a bath.(a red/black one)
after the bath they put it on the turntable for a spin. and WOW! until the water dried,(5min.) it looked amazing in color!
Yeah wonder how much times CSX washed a GEVO like that
1988: why'd you get that car in the shot?

Don’t find many videos like this anywhere else on UA-cam! Wonderful video!
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for watching...

Glad you enjoyed it Kevin. I sure do miss the Chessie. Thanks for watching...
Awesome video Jack
Miss old sleeping kitten

Its a shame they're not around anymore love the colors of chessie system. They pop to me
That they did Hunter. I do miss seeing Chessie units. At least we can still see them on YT. Thanks for watching...

Yet another amazing video! And what a K5LA on that 8632!
Thanks EWSB, glad you enjoyed it. That 8632 sounded fantastic. Id love to put that horn on the Mack Superliner I just bought. Thanks for watching...
Awesome video Jack!
I miss the Chessie System

SC PIEDMONT VIDEO PRODUCTIONS
I only remember Conrail and Cheesie System trains when l was kid. Those were the only ones in Columbus.
awesome video. i was 5 years old in 1988 and remember Chessie System..
Always loved the Chessie paint scheme. Shame its a thing of the past. Thanks for watching...
In the mid 70’s when my family lived in Cincinnati, I remember seeing what seemed to be miles of black tank cars with the logo on them.
Thanks Jack. Live the old power. Locos look so short. I remember when an SD40 was king of the hill.
Those were the days! Seems so long ago, and miss seeing this stuff run past the camera.
Still see them on bnsf staples subdivision on SD457500 channel.
Mercury Cougar! Cool!
Yah, That was my 77. It was a pretty nice car until the motor spun a bearing on the way to NJ on Christmas eve. LOL. I did have a new 351 installed, and ran it a few more years.
Loved this Jack. Excellent video.
Classic PA river valley railroad. Loved the old camcorder time stamps.
Outstanding! Thanks Jack
Glad you enjoyed it. More coming soon.
Terrific catches/power/meets/races! I believe one of those engines is being used as a ride at the B and O museum in Baltimore.
That's pretty neat that one still survives. Thanks for sharing that.
Awesome,,vintage stuff!! Thanks for sharing🙂
Thanks Dave. Glad you enjoyed it.
jackmp294.5™ Spent all day in Mobile,Alabama. In a coalyard on the State Docks
jackmp294.5™ I really enjoy your videos, stuff I cannot find anywhere else
WOW, great channel. You have a lot of nice videos here. Your efforts are appreciated.
Thanks MTH. Glad you enjoy it, and thanks for watching.

Just gotta love those days. Thanks for watching...
Great job. I miss those days and that cat.

I bet that is a gem. Hope its in good shape.
heres the most recent video filmed of it ua-cam.com/video/SyrA25uC7bM/v-deo.html
i am not sure, but , i think this is the chessie geep featured in the movie,,,
"my cousin vinny"
I seen it last week when I went up there
THEY SHOULD'VE BEEN LEFT ALONE I LOVE CHESSIE & THE FAMILY SYSTEM!
CSX should at least have a few heritage units in their roster with that paint scheme.
We have all of ONE chessie painted loco. CSX is really down the tubes.thanks to Harrison.

nice catches, you gotta love those RS3L's
Thanks. Yah you can't beat the sound of thos beauties. I'd like to put a set of those on the 85 Mack Superliner I just bought. That would be neat. Thanks for watching...

Awesome Chessie Jack!!!
Thanks Jeff. Glad you enjoyed it.
Your welcome!!
As usual, I enjoyed very much!
Thanks oldtoot. Glad you enjoyed this classic stuff, and thanks for watching...
Great video! Thanks for sharing:)
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks. Love the kitten. Love the Scripture.
For sure Warren. One of my favorites that I sure miss. Thanks for watching...
csx should make a chessie sd70ace heritige unit like union pacific
They should. I would have no problem with that.
jackmp294.5™ make sure to put a K5LA on it
I said the exact same thing!!!...I wish each railroad would get an old flagship unit whether its Alco, EMD or GE and paint it them in its heritage liveries also the make corresponding units in absorbed company liveries as well...i.e. A u36-b in Seaford System colors and a SD40-2 highhood in Southern R.R. colors etc.

Thanks, and glad you enjoyed it.
2:00 is that a Leslie RS3P horn?
Not really sure FCRS. Thanks for watching...
LOVE THE SCHEME!
That was one on the nicest, I thought. Thanks for watching...
Cheesie locomotives were the fastest compared to Conrail. I dont see Cheesie system trains anymore in Columbus Ohio. Conrail is still around.
I need to know what all the Trailers and Containers were on an early CSX/late Chessie era intermodal train.
Not sure Andrew. Back then, anything and everything would be riding on these cars. Thanks for watching...
Is it ok to post the link to these?
Chessie baby, hell yeah!!!
Jack may I screen record this and use it in a B&O documentry and post it? I read the desc.
Do you have any clips of the Tropicana train from the 70s
Sorry. Nothing on the OJ train. I have seen it on the NEC time to time, but never caught it. Thanks for watching...
I think that scheme would've looked nice on a wide-cab if they had ever made it that far. I'm guessing those helpers were manned at that point, correct?
waffuhz I'm working onit
Working on what?
Yes, they were manned. They still are. There is talk, that CSX may use DPU's on the coal trains. That will be a first. Thanks for watching...
jackmp294.5™ Oh really, I thought they were using DPU's nowadays, I guess not. Interesting.
Other railroads do, but I haven't seen it here on the CSX Pittsburgh sub
C&O had lines in PA? didn't know that. or is that ex-WM tracks?
C&O never made it to Pa.
I forgot that the C&O had taken control of the B&O by the mid 60s. which explains why they are in PA
Looks like pretty much all geeps. No wonder they had to use so many units on a lot of those trains.
That was typical Chessie. Early CSX brought in SDB U36B's, and three did the same job, and did it well. Thanks for watching...
I’m guessing in Florida they used old seaboard locomotives
They probably stuck around down there more, like Chessie did up north. But they did bring many Seaboard U36B's up north to run the mountains on the trailer jets. They did that very well. Thanks for watching...
Now why couldn't they have maintained some of those engines with that (adorable) heritage livery the way NS did with so many of theirs, rather than slapping blue and gray and yellow paint all over everything?? Same with the Seaboard stuff ... 😛😛
That would have been fantastic to see. But I doubt it will ever happen, and those little decals they put on the cab just doesn't cut it.
They ran lots of 3000 hp GP40s/GP40-2s.
CSX should have just kept the Chessie System paint scheme.
I agree 100%. Thanks for watching.
me likey kitty cat train
No doubt about it.
I miss the days of the cat
That's the year chucky came out
2:00 Good riddance!! That horn is awful
shut up. that horn is beautiful
who's bought Chessie System ?
It became CSX, and its never been the same.
Stephane Descoteaux it become part of csx and they run everything in the ground I lived beside the tracks and the chessie system run right beside my house
Got a question can you unban me from railstream plz dude??
I wish I could. But I have no control on that. I think that has to be done by RailStream. I'm sorry.
