    In today's video, Legendary Tactics again welcomes guest Mafiul Robin, all the way from Bangladesh, and himself a massive fan of Brass Birmingham, to walk us through a game against the Hard AIs. As he takes time coaching a rookie like myself how to win at Brass Birmingham, you can see how strategies can be implemented in this learning game. It is a coaching session to teach us in a practical way the strategies that were presented in our definitive strategy guide, found at the link below:

    Brass: Birmingham is an economic strategy game sequel to Martin Wallace' 2007 masterpiece, Brass. Birmingham tells the story of competing entrepreneurs in Birmingham during the industrial revolution, between the years of 1770-1870.
    As in its predecessor, you must develop, build, and establish your industries and network, in an effort to exploit low or high market demands.
    Each round, players take turns according to the turn order track, receiving two actions to perform any of the following actions (found in the original game):
    1) Build - Pay required resources and place an industry tile.
    2) Network - Add a rail / canal link, expanding your network.
    3) Develop - Increase the VP value of an industry.
    4) Sell - Sell your cotton, manufactured goods and pottery.
    5) Loan - Take a £30 loan and reduce your income.
    Brass: Birmingham also features a new sixth action:
    6) Scout - Discard three cards and take a wild location and wild industry card. (This action replaces Double Action Build in original Brass.)
    Brass: Birmingham is a sequel to Brass. It offers a very different story arc and experience from its predecessor.

      Thank you so much! I confidently won my first game of Brass at a local club, where some people at the table had experience already. It's a beautiful game and I would enjoy it, no matter winning or losing.

    So I have watched both this and the Ultimate Guide, great stuff. If you were to devote some more time into follow up in-depth guides, I would love to see :
    - Discussion around counter-play to the already mentioned strategies
    - Deeper dive on the specific locations and cards
    Thanks!

      One of the best countrier to this strategy is this strategy itself. Everyone try to do similar thing. Who ever will make more Irons and most valuable links likely win.

    Thank you so much for making this amazing guide!!
    A practical guide (an actual game) is indeed way better than just the theoretical guide - so thank you so much!!
    One question: at 1:08:20 you made a quad rail action, but for some reason you ignored the rail from Birmingham to Redditch (which is 5 VPs and potentially 7 VPs) - why is that?
    I would really love to watch more games of Brass by Mafiul - just to see more cases and learn what to do in different scenarios
    Also - maybe he can give commentary on a game that he played against high level players? - that would be AWESOME!

    • @MafiulRobin

      You are right, I may have not noticed it at that moment. Birmingham to Redditch LINK would be a perfect choice.

    1:04:20 I beleive using a develop action for 2xmqanufacture to get rid of the remaining 2 iron then overbuild the Derby ironworks of red would've been a really evil move :D Skipping the Burmingham-Worcester link at the end was a small misplay.

    What are the best instances to use discounting action is it even worth spending a turn to do so?

    • @MafiulRobin
      @MafiulRobin 2 роки тому +7

      If you are asking about SCOUTING action; It is best if you do not have to scout at all. But sometimes one scout per era might worth it if it really helps achieving your valuable main goal. We did one scout in canal era (thought it was possible to not do) and we didn't do any scout in rail era (though there were a good use of it) in this game, these are good examples of when to scout or not.

  • @arthursimsa9005
    @arthursimsa9005 2 роки тому +1

    I don’t get it. If one of the priorities is to avoid building canals, then why build a canal between Birmingham and Oxford on turn 2? It is not needed to build the iron mill, is it? Building lvl 1 iron mill does not require coal, does it? What’s the point then?

    • @arthursimsa9005
      @arthursimsa9005 2 роки тому +2

      Oh, it does require coal. My bad then!

    1:16 :
    Why not build Coal in Cannock and take double rail to go first?
    Then take a double rail and a single rail
    Should have worked out

    • @libertyprime9307
      @libertyprime9307 10 місяців тому

      Looks like they can't afford it.
      I'm on my phone right now but if I see everything correctly:
      - Coal in Cannock costs 7
      - Double Rail costs 15
      - 15+7=22
      - and the player only has 17 coins

    Im sorry, for me its almost impossible to follow. Im a beginner in this game but this guide here is very confusing for me and its very hard to understand Mafiul for me, no offense. :-( I'm missing a structure here tbh, a thread to follow. I'd love to see a beginner strategy guide to get better at this game, at this point im always loosing against the Eliza-Automa. I know the rules, I just have no strategy. :-(

    Maybe you should comment some game with human players. AI is pathetic.

    • @LegendaryTactics
      @LegendaryTactics  2 роки тому +6

      Yes, that is a good idea. I will see if he can do an after action report on a real game. Please remember, however, that the AI is useful as a teaching tool (for example, it doesn't quit mid-game or get impatient if we linger for a few minutes at a given point to go over some strategy in more depth).
