Thank you for the video. My friend just did it in my '73 to match the RPM shift points with my new 383 stroker. Now it drives much better! Greetings from Poland ✌️🇵🇱
At 4:38 in the video you say to get the trans to shift later you go to a heavier weight. I think thats backwards. Dont you use a lighter weight to get later shift points? Hence why some people grind material off the weights to get an even high shift point?
So if i have a LQ4 in front of one of these and i want it to shift at 6500+, i gotta mess with my governor? Theres people talking about the modulator, but i think thats more for changing cruising behavior.
Hello I will have to watch this once I get my sound hooked up but I was wondering on my th400 its has a pre set shift point for 1-2 even if shifter is still in low how do we fix that
@picco68 ok you will need to get a tramsgo 1--2 kit for your 400. This is the easiest way to get the valvebody to hold in first gear. Remove the valvebody to put in the auto or manual 1-2 shift valve.
The engine builder he ad some of mess with my trans when I got it back it was searching for a gear they said they altered the governor, today I finally got the original springs one was about twice as long as the other they had what looked like a light blue in one side and none in the other I added the full sized one to the missing side will try it tomorrow
I liked your video. If I understand right, I need to put heavier weights in to stay in first longer. I have a 383 stroker with 550hp, turbo 400 built for strip, 3,000 stall, 4:11 rear end. It shifts before I get half way through the intersection. It shifts real soft, that would be modulator? Turn clock wise for a firmer shift? I need it too stay in first longer and shift harder. I can not feel 2nd to 3rd at all. Help, please and thank you.
@nowayhunting Start by turning modulator screw clockwise 2 turns see if that helps. I'm concerned about the soft shifts as you stated the trans is built for strip so it should shift hard on the 1-2 & 2-3 shifts. Let me know
@nowayhunting Could be where is the vacuum line connected too carburetor or intake? Plus I know nothing about your transmission as far as what was done to it? How is it a strip transmission? Does it have a manual valve body? I want to steer you down the right path but need info
@nowayhunting Here's a thought put shifter in low gear and drive once it gets 40ish mph it should shift to 2nd on its own. Leave shifter in low gear. That will help me

Hi, I have a 1980 corvette with a 350 engine and a TH350 transmission and everything is stock , no modifications. The problem is the TH350 will not shift into 3rd unless I'm going 65mph and around 3800-4000 rpm, once shifted into 3rd, it runs just fine in drive untill I drop under 45mph and then I have to get back up to 65mph to shift into drive. Ist to second works fine, it shifts at around 15mph and 2600 rpm. I've tried replacing/adjusting the vacuum modulator, pulled the governor and checked the value and it works just fine. Any idea's what could cause this late shift? This transmisson has 65000 miles on it.
@hyser53 no it will still shift to 2nd. You will need a transgo kit to achieve what your wanting to do correctly. Are you working on a 350 or 400 tranny?
I have a '93 Vette (4L60 trans) and changed the rear end gear from 2.59 to 3,54 (dana 36). As you might imagine, my shift points are way too low now (short-shifting). I'm thinking of replacing my stock inner-spring with a 10g, staying with the stock springs. Any advice or guidance you have I'd be grateful for. Thanks--Ronn
Thanks for watching the video. Yes b&m is one company that offers the governor tuning kit. The weights in kit are for bigger rpm changes springs are more for fine tuning. Question how much rpm change did you notice after changing gear ratio? 400 -600 rpm less or are you going mph?
I have a 1976 corvette that has shift problems. th350 I believe. Shifts 1st to 2nd at 1800 rpm and 2nd to 3rd at 2800. Adjusted modulater a bit and 2 to 3 shift went to 3200 but 1 to 2 still at 1800. You think governor is the problem?

@@joshuaherpolsheimer4699 being that it's a stock Transmission you might need to re program the valvebody with a transgo kit that will get you closer to the goal. The kit also comes with Governor tuning springs. What state are you in?
Friend, so if I want to lengthen the shift points of my TH350, I use the heavier governor parts, which the kit offers me? Since I also plan to replace the modulator to an adjustable one because my change points are so fast that they do not allow the correct function of overdrive ...
Mr572u Answering both comments. There are 2 sets of weights and the springs go in between the weights. So the heavier springs keep the secondary weights closed longer thus allowing later shifts

Good easy place to start. Once removed knock out gear pin, remove gear, then remove valve just like in video. Make sure tiny hole in valve is clean.

Remove the cable gear. Look through the end of it if you can see through it replace it
The way I see it, heavier weights shift sooner, at a slower driveshaft speed. It’s all relative to the rear end gearing.
