I don’t know why I’m having so much trouble finding the head torque specs and sequence for this engine. Anyone know where I can find them?

New one on me never saw loose timing gear granted haven't had one that old oldest one I've had was 86.
Crank is a crank so long as all the bearing surfaces are same dementions shouldn't be a problem.
Better if you can keep same rods on same crank if assembly is in good shape since they ware together wrist pins aren't as critical in pistons.
Need to mic everything to be sure should be fine.
Custom cam shop may have a pin.
Hackman performance cams specializes in flat head cams if you find problems with parts engines crack and rods.

I dont know why the flat head engines are less efficient and the design concept was abandoned.

Why do all that work, just put in a new pin.

@@CantKillMe Those pins are available aftermarket, just like keyways, the pins are most likely not made by Briggs and Stratton, try looking up "dowel pin types", "stepped dowel pin", "locating pin", mold components etc, these will all be precision ground and hardened. Once you find the two diameters, you can cut to length and grind a couple flats for the gear to slide over.

well like I have said that be cool for you but for me its just faster and easy to thow in a nother crank with a keyway and a good gear and move on with it its been 3 years and have not had any problumes with it and still running strond and not knoking from it
