Your grandfathers quote actually makes so much sense, it’s true
Gramps wore his work boots in the house? Grammy musta been mad as hell. Boots, mattress, and slippers?
Yeah... Only, I sleep in a hammock, not on a mattress. It's more comfortable than a mattress, takes up less space, weighs less than a mattress and I fall asleep faster than on a mattress. Also, if you lay in it right, no back pain, as opposed to an overpriced pad of insulation that absorbs all my sweat and grime in the hot summer evenings. Yep, a hammock offers cooler sleep in hot weather. Overall, a smarter and healthier move, in my book.
Did I mention the lower resources involved in hammock manufacturing as opposed to mattresses? Economically, it makes more sense, too. Break down how much a mattress costs over how many years compared to a hammock and replacing worn out hammocks over the same time period. There is a reason why a large portion of the world sleeps in hammocks especially in the favelas in South America: it's cheap, comfortable, it's cool in the hot weather and it's not too difficult to move it when space is limited.
If you think back problems are in your future if you sleep in a hammock: you're not sleeping in it right. Sleeping in it diagonally will flatten out the curve that puts pressure on the lower back. I will point out that I am only talking about gather hammocks it's not those hammocks with bars on either end, pushing the hammock open.
@@deemushroomguy goo goo ga ga. Shut up
@@deemushroomguy how do you mount it in your bedroom?
Hooks in the wall? Or from ceiling ?
@@Mr.BobsDog there are wall hooks for hammocks, but I usually set mine up between two trees in the yard. Outside air is cleaner than inside air, was my justification at the time (as I kept waking up high A.F. on opiates... A habit I do not partake in and have zero interest in. My brother's compulsive opiate smoking in his room has led to me preferring to sleep outside, than wake up high on opiates. Its a miniscule house and I am apparently pretty sensitive to it).
Have an excellent week. ✌️
My Greek grandfather taught it to me a little different. “There are three things a man should never compromise on, his shoes, his bed and his wife.” Why Papu, I asked? “Because if you are not in one you’ll be in one of the others and if the fit ain’t right expect a lot of discomfort.”
I was going to say close to the same, grandfather said wife and boots. First I’ve heard mattress honestly lol
Omg that is so true! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was told boots and pistol, because if your boots don't hold up well enough to high tail it, then you'll need the pistol, and of the pistol doesn't hold up, then they'll be burying you in cheap boots
@@grahamlopez3742 this one is by far the shittiest version lmao
@@dimitrijekrstic7567 it's held up so far, which is why my boots are Redwings and my pistol is an HK
Another lesson from the old timers: "You're never too poor for good toilet paper."
That used to be true, but the pandemic taught us otherwise
yup went from Charmin ultra soft to truckstop paper real quick!
Or a bidet 😂😂😂
Another lesson, the “better” the toilet paper, the more likely it is you’ll have issues with your septic system. The quilted stuff from Costco turns to concrete in the tank.
The flushable wipes will continue until the toilet paper improves.
Never skimp on the things that go between you and the ground:

Imagine how many more applications the US Forest Service get since this guy started doing videos...
Forest.....Fire......not many more. Hard terrain, bugs, critters, dark, smokey, hot, long distances, heavy fast difficult life threatening work

Bro, I thought he was gonna say “Your work boots and your wife”. Then when he said “if your not in one, your in the other” I died laughing. Too accurate.
My grandfather always told me something similar, and that is “don’t skimp on what you put between yourself and the earth” mattress, boots, tires etc
My boot care is pretty similar. I pull my laces out, brush everything clean, condition the leather, wipe away any excess, and put them back together. A lot of people neglect their boots, but honestly these are some of the best i've ever had and I want them to last.
Some people use it to “measure up” someone at a quick glance when first meeting them too. You can tell a good amount of info about a man if he keeps his work boots clean.
@@killerCOD97 It's me, I'm some people.
Never skimp on the things that separate you from the ground. Your bed, your boots, and your rifle.
And tires
Your rifle? Wtf you using it as a stilt or something?
@@Trenz0 A rifle seperates you from the ground in that, it protects you from being killed and buried 6 feet deep.
@@Trenz0 lol really?
And tires
I'm a welder, and I coat the exterior seams in boot guard. Makes the boots last 3x longer if exposed to high heat regularly. Oh, and Kevlar laces are expensive but they last longer than leather.
Currently breaking in my first pair of NICKS Hot Shots! Have had Wescos and JK’s. So far first impressions are I’ve finally found the boot I’m looking for thanks to your recommendations over the years
Trying to remember which brand these are in the video...? He has reviewed a few.
@@Thundermuffin93 pretty sure I saw the nicks stamp on his boots
🤣 I love your grandfathers qoute! 👍
My grandfather had a different quote. The two things to take care of are your feet and your teeth. He had all original teeth when he died at 92
I stand behind this product. I drive a fuel tanker and several years ago got covered by diesel fuel. To the point I had to take an emergency shower. Uniform, socks and underwear had to be thrown away. But when the fuel dried, my boots were fine. You couldn’t even smell the diesel on them. Highly recommend this product!
Best boot/leather conditioner that I’ve used as a linesman for the past 28 years
is line work dangerous? i kinda want to get into that once i’m out of high school but i’m on the fence about it
@@sususmongus2514 - Short answer is yes. High voltage, heavy equipment and inclement weather are the main hazards. Once you’ve conquered the fear of climbing/gaffing, it’s all about listening to your trainers. Good luck!
@@bklyn_line thanks man i’ll see where time takes me
Wow your grandfather is very smart!
Speaking of mattresses. My sister found out the hard way. She bought some budget brand of mattress, that I never even heard of. Even though the tags said "Made in USA", didn't mean it was quality. After only a few months, it dipped in the middle, and she was frequently visiting the chiropractors office. So upon her chiropractor's direction, she went and replaced her mattress with a quality mattress. I forget exactly what brand. It was either Sealy or Serta. As for now, she's no longer needing her weekly chiropractor visit.
I bought a Serta last spring, 2021. I hate it. It dips and so uncomfortable now
Gotta love Nick's
I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Some guys never had a dad or grandfather to teach them these valuable lessons. Bless you sir
I have been a fan of saddle ointment/soap for my work boots when i needed them.
Ive had my work boots for 4ish years now, got them as a gift from my stepfather for following in his footsteps. Even as beat up as they get, they're my most cared for boots
Love my White's Smoke Jumpers! I've taken good care of them and had them since 1997.
That obenaufs is good stuff. I love it
G'pa was spot on 👍
Great quote, I wish the Army had heard it because two of the worst things in my service are the boots and the mattresses.
... A good sturdy bed to do homework on.
Similar to my backpacking motto. Never go cheap on boots, bag or tent.
Grandpa droppin nuggets, great point. Great channel. Hump that merch! Seriously, your a celebrity for gawds sake😁
Those boots look similar to the Corcoran jump boots, same tongue pattern too. The Corcoran boots have an angled heel so a suspension line doesn’t get caught. I was stole to skip the eyelet at the ankle to avoid “Corcoran bite”
Nick's boots 👍
Sir your channel is so cool. I bet every youngman that was starting a career in the forest service wanted to be on your crew. What a blessing it would of been to have had the opertunity to of been under your wing.
I'm a fan my friend .
God Speed.
Glad I waited until the end for that grandpap quote
There are 3 things a man should never compromise on. His fence, his Dramamine, and his old metal tomato. One thing I picked up from my great grandma Bobby Jean.
I put Obenhaufs on my Belleville's. The darkening of the rough out leather is well worth the protection!
My foreman gave me the same advice not to long ago!
Gramps was a smart man. I have a tempurpedic and I wear my Nick's.
What’s the spelling of the leather dressing that you are recommending in this video?
It's Obenauf's 🙂
Obenauf's leather oil
nice, thanks!
@Max Total thank you for pointing that out I rewatched the video to see if I miss that since I didn't know what you meant, but then when I searched the product by name I realized what you were saying right away because of different packaging of different products as well as the one featured in the video
Obenaufs is by far the best. Im only 25 years old and ruined several pair of work boots before i found obenaufs.
Your grandfather was a wise man! And it is a tip I have been following my whole life, good quality shoes/boots last a very long time and prevents injury.
A good quality mattress is the key for all 24 hours of the day being good.
So good mattress and good boots and you'll live the best life you can!
Mattresses & boots, if you're not in one, you're in the other. Quality wisdom without a doubt. But I cannot help but chuckle hearing from you since I've seen a number of your videos where you're barefoot lol.
That's good advice
You love the forest service, even though they gave you the cold shoulder couple years ago
Sometimes in life, you need to change your course in the stream, the flow is the same and all signs point to waterfall ahead
I believe he's said before that he enjoyed his time in the service, he just didn't like some of the people in power there.
It was politics more than anything, I believe.
Could you honestly stand this guy , always talking about his favorite products all the time
@@Bob46374 personally I love his passion for this stuff.
What if you're sitting on your couch barefooted watching TV
My father was born old and he a very similar quote
“Never go cheap on your shoes or your bed, because you will be on those for the rest of your life”
That makes sense why I can't find Obenhauf's in Alaska, then.
I didn't know I needed this guy until now
Your grandfather taught you a lot didn't he Cody, it's one of those things that as we get older and they pass that information and the memory of them giving it are more cherished than any amount of gold or wealth and it will help you out the rest of your life. I WILL teach my kids what my grandfather taught me he didn't leave me any wealth but he did leave me with a whole lot of knowledge.
My dad would always say there’s 3. Shoes, mattress, and tires
I heard a similar one from a teacher back in the day “Never skimp on that which comes between you and the earth; shoes, mattresses and tires.”
That saying at the end of the video is genius brother 👏 🙌 👌
For most of us real workers. Lol
To each their own but I prefer a light grease all over and not to grease the laces as they make them stretch and won’t give you proper tightness. Kinda like the latigo on the cinch of the pack saddle.
Obenaugh has coated laces specifically for people working with forest fires. I have them on my boots and they make your boots literally invincible
My Red Wing Boot man taught me to rotate those eyelets, to a less worn spot periodically. It saves cutting up the laces.
Always great info! Thank you.
I totally agree with your rule on the two things to spend money on shoes and mattress. This has always served me well.
I used to buy cheap work boots until i heard that from an old man when i was a pipeliner when i was 20! He was right! 😂 🤙🏻
The quote at the end, or camera head on shot closing, was good!
I love tour short tip/tricks explication video, i’m always learning somerhing new ! I just can’t go over one
I love these videos. This guy is such a relic living in the modern world.
Your grandfather is a wise man.
In my basic training barracks was a note
"Wer gut pflegt,
Der gut geht"
In English:
"who cares well
goes well"
I read this note 2010
I always remembered this note, and I never had a problem with my feed.
You have an amazing amount of knowledge. It’s a pleasure to hear you speak. Some people speak and garbage comes out but not you.
I took Wranglerstar for his word with Obenaufs years ago, and it's amazing! Even off-the-shelf Timberlands held up for 6+ New England winters with the proper care.
Glad you like it Patrick
I like people who what they are talking about. No blabla, just nice and clear presented tools and boots and facts. And quotes... Thanks Sir! I subscribes a few minutes ago. Greetings from Germany --- Martin
Please don't stop with this channel I have learned a lot of USEFUL! skills watching this
That end quote is life
I use these boots when I’m hooking trees or hook and telephone calls is hooking or guessing somethings that firefighters use when you’re fighting wildfires had a situation on my property I have 20 acres and I had a couple of trees that burned on the top so I hooked up quickly and before it came all the way down I cut the tops off saved about 20 trees everyone thought I was crazy but I didn’t get burned
I'd love to see a video on the differences between firefighting boots and standard loggers. I've been wearing loggers every day for work for years.
They are the same except the fire resistant properties of the thread and sole
As well as specific leather
THANKS AGAIN WRANGLEMAN!!! Got another INCREDIBLE PRODUCT on my shopping list because of you!!!! ⭐️
People called me crazy for buying a 500$ pair of Danner fire boots... 10 years ago. They sucked to break in, blisters like crazy, but after about a month it was fine. Now they're more comfortable then any regular shoe I've ever worn. I've put em through hell, and worn them daily. Only thing that's went wrong is a broken lace tooth, and a loop on the back of one.
Having supple boots will help you in the oncoming struggle
Man brought back some memories from when my grandpa gave me my first boots. Ty
"If you're not in one, you're definitely gonna be in the other." - man who welds and chainsaws while barefoot
forest circus!
I’ve always had a good pair of Whites Fire boots. They’re very comfortable. Expensive but make long days on your feet a lot less painful.
I never had to be told that. I buy good boots n firm pillow tops. Not crazy bespoke ones but higher end
whats funny is my dad used to say the same thing, and my gmpa did too, except he said never skimp on 3 things on life, boots, bed, and tools-especially ones you use everyday since your life could depend on it.
Obenauf's is what I use on my work boots. A good brushing, a saddle soap scrub and a liberal application of Obenauf's gets them looking great and lasting long.
That's over of the best quotes I've ever heard.
I enjoy your videos. My dad taught me to shine his boots when I was a kid and mine are always spiffy. More videos please!!
Montana Pitch Blend!!
I've been in construction for like 6 years now. Got a pair of Walmart boots when I first started. That quickly changed when I couldn't walk by the end of the day
I absolutely love that last quote..... So true ✌️❤️🙏💯
And, never compromise your integrity.
The plasma in the blood of your enemies works quite well too
I would imagine the Tri fold leather tongue is to allow you to get your foot in and to keep your feet dry.
That is truly a great quote!
nice flammable conditioning
Has wranglerstar ever done a video about his mattress?
Never heard that quote but I’ve learned that really quick when I got out of high school and began working, great quality work boots protects your feet, and a quality mattress ensures a good nights rest for the following day
Same for people who work sitting at a desk all day, pay up for that chair.
Obenauf’s is totally the best!!
I've heard the same quote but with tires added. Never skip on quality with the things that separate you from the ground.
That's a great idea, I gotta get one of those brushes for red wings, I just use whatever cloth I can find but it nedlver gets them super clean
Sad to be missing this fire season, next year I’ll be on it!! I was on the bootleg last year, it was so much fun!!
I love your grandpa's wisdom.
Nah. I'm in a lazy boy at 4 am before going to a food festival, smoking bud and watching your great vids.
I was told once: Don’t go cheap on things that separate you from the ground. Bed, tires, boots.
Love this channel. cool stuff.
I use Obenauf on my boots as a mechanic. Keeps the diesel and oil out of the leather. Love that stuff even if I didn't spell it right lol
Now I got what I need thank you so much for such great advice.
