  • Hey, Wranglerstar family! Get ready for a boot battle like no other. In this video, I'm unboxing and scrutinizing some of the finest, custom-built boots out there. We’re putting the renowned JK Boots, the iconic White's Smokejumpers, the tough Nick's Hotshots, and JK’s own masterpieces to the test.
This isn’t just about finding the sturdiest boot. It’s a deep dive into the heritage of West Coast logging boots, born out of necessity in the giant timber forests of Oregon, Washington, and Northern California. These lands called for a boot that wasn’t just tough, but purpose-built for their rugged, challenging terrain.
I’ll be comparing these legendary boots not just on craftsmanship and comfort, but on their histories and the stories they tell. We'll explore what makes each pair unique, how they’ve evolved to meet the demands of both yesterday’s loggers and today’s outdoor enthusiasts. And the big question: which of these boots stands out in our ultimate showdown?
Join me as we step into more than just boots - we’re stepping into a rich legacy. Whether you’re a fan of quality footwear, a history buff, or just love a good, reliable boot, this is a video you won’t want to miss.

I've owned pretty much every brand here and a few others.
Nick's used to be my go to. But that changed for the worst once they got bought. Then I bought Frank's which opened up in the original Nick's building with their best custom shop manager in my opinion. Great guy, great service, great boots and I trust them with my life. Lineman, logging and fire your boots are your life line.
JK attracted me because they were the first to offer an insulated boot. Working in the Midwest I can't tell you how nice it is to have this style of boot with insulation. You all know the cold feet issues once they get wet.
Both JK and Frank's are killing it and I couldn't be happier with both companies unless they sent me a free set LMAO

The "no metal" rule for fire boots is why I always tell guys looking to get into quality boots (Whites, Nick's, JK, etc.) that just because something is NFPA certified does not necessarily mean it's a tougher boot. The combination of screwed and sewn sole construction makes a boot more durable than simple sewn down construction. Not that you're ever really going to be able to feel that difference, short of absolutely abusing the boot.

Best is definitely dependent on what you’re doing. I have to wear boots with metatarsal protection on concrete all day. Pretty hard to beat redwings for my job. At the end of the day the Thursdays are a good looking boot with a good midrange upper for s bargain price.

To be fair, I wouldn't consider a pair of Red Wings, born from the log camps and iron mines of Minnesota, an "East Coast Boot".
But I'm not a logger or a smokejumper. For me, the Iron Ranger line of boots makes more sense - I'm on concrete floors for a number of hours a day, I'm not trudging through heavy woods and up and down mountains. I need relatively smooth soles that don't pack 5 pounds of mud in huge lugs and tall heel stacks. I want durable US made leather that's abrasion and spark resistant. And I'd rather not spend six or seven hundred dollars.

I’ve considered getting a pair of Nick’s…I only wear boots on the weekends. Wonder if they would be worth it…great review here.

I’m not a logger I burn fire wood for heat but I mainly do welding, mechanic, and farm work so I tend to like a logger boot for my work but I appreciate any boot that is well made and tuff

Have you ever tried darn tough socks? Just as good as smartwool if not better and comes with an unconditional lifetime guarantee. Made in USA as well. I have 5-6 pairs that I've had for over a year with daily hard use and I haven't worn a single hole in them.

You need to review a pair of Daytons(wohlford &co). Another sturdy west coast boot made in Vancouver Canada since the 1940s. Bought a pair five years ago and theyre still solid. My most worn pair of footwear.
