I have the Jayco XJ213 and really like it. The only thing I would love to change is the dark wood interior. White or much brighter coloring would be great.
We bought a 224BHW mostly due to this video. It ticked SO many of our wants/needs that we decided to buy one. This is our first RV and we love it. As a 6'5" guy, the taller ceiling is nice, outdoor kitchen with sink is pretty nifty and the bathroom ... oh, that glorious bathroom (which sounds silly, but as a life long tent camping guy... this is pure heaven). Ours is the Rocky Mountain edition, so it has just a few minor tweaks... 1 solar panel, 2 batteries (I might switch them to Battle Born, dunno yet), 2 fresh water tanks, higher clearance with bigger Wrangler tires, diamond plating in front and some sort of under sealing (we are new...). We used it in the Grand Tetons and it was fantastic. Waking up to those views, drinking coffee under the awning and spending time without the kids arguing over space in a tent made it all worth it. Thanks, Josh!
Well congrats on a great camper! Mind sharing a few kind words in a quick review in return for the helpful efforts at www.haylettautoandrv.com/review-us/
As you can tell I spend most of my free time watching your videos lol. I LOVE that Jayco just rounds off the corners on their bunks in several models. This makes it possible for two people people to actually fit on these. Don’t get me wrong, double bunks are always nice, but a lot of the time it seems like the side of the bunk is cut at such an extreme angle, that it is basically a single bunk with more room on one end. Huge props to Jayco on this. And of course the 600lb weight rating. Double bunk perfection!!
I can never understand an RV that has sleeping arrangements for 7, and only provides uncomfortable seating for 2-4? Hopefully, the weather Gods are always with you!!!
Be nice if tha awning covered the outside kitchen. I didn't see an orange porch light either. Other than those 2 things this is the camper for me and the grandkids
I know this is old but i wanted to say you truly truly do the best videos with the best information including that rundown on the screen which is wicked helpful . And we also know we can order whatver we are watching from you. thank you. I do prefer the other shell but this is really really great
It'd be nice if they actually built them like the layouts on the website - like in this one, the layout online shows an toilet with lots of leg room, but of course they build it with the toilet close to the shower to reduce leg room for the left leg.
Having grown ups over doing “grown up things”?!! Dirty boy!!! Lol. It really is amazing how far RVs have come. This type of model was the norm in the mid-80s and now this is a “bare-bone” model. Great work!!!
Funny how things change like that. I like seeing a luxury fifth wheel from like 5 or 6 years ago come in and having someone say "well it's a little plain" when people used to lose their minds over it
This is really just the next step up from that one, so a natural progression. That 174 is a great little camper. You did well for your first time around!

Haylett RV yes! I’m looking for something around 25 feet, outdoor kitchen, double sized bunk beds, queen bed preferably facing out like in this model. This one is actually the closest I’ve gotten, I’m just a little bummed it doesn’t have a slide out. No slide out is really what is holding me back in this model. But I’d rather have bigger beds for my growing kids than a slide, I think. Oh and something that can be towed with a mid size suv.

I really want someone to take the wolf pup 19TO floor plan, with its super slide, and add this kind of a bunkhouse. 25-26ft with that slide and bunks is my dream floorplan.
Why doesn’t Jayco offer a Murphy bed option on this one? Looks like they could easily remove the storage above the bed and put in a Murphy with a normal mattress. Seems to be very popular right now. Also extent the awning pass the outside kitchen and I’m ready to buy. 🤣
@@JoshtheRVNerd The difference I see there is tongue weight -- for the Grey Wolf it's 585 and for this 224bh it's 445. I'm finding that that number is SO important but completely impossible to get prior to sale and finding a CAT scale. These trailers are so close to the payload limits of our 2015 F150, even with the max tow package and 7,000 lb payload package. It's really frustrating. This 224bh will push it for us, since the advertised tongue weight is likely 200-300 pounds underestimated. Even that new little Jay Feather 199 that you reviewed is something like 685 advertised...which suggests that the vast majority of half-tons towing just about anything are awfully close to their payload limits with a packed trailer and truck. What am I missing?
This may be something you can't answer or choose not to but I would like to ask something. I'm looking at buying a new travel trailer. I had a keystone 15 years ago and it was a headache. I'm not looking for a headache and I know and understand all may have smell problems here and there. You deal with and are around campers everyday. So just asking but in your opinion what is best built camper brand? Winnebago, jayco, keystone or others? Just asking
Great question! Different brands have different segments or time periods in which they're either a little higher or little lower on that benchmark. The service records of a brand is a key factor in what we do/do not carry (though certainly not the only factor). In two pretty extreme cases we have parted ways with brands for which sales were on fire, but service records were... "Less than satisfactory" seems like a diplomatic way of saying it. So making sure the RV stays in your driveway instead of coming back here is a major factor. We do a LOT of tracking on it. Brands like Rockwood define the idea of "Gold standard camping" in almost every case. Freedom Expresses have really become dialed in recently. Jayco is always a solid choice and the RV I tend to find myself in most of the time (a basic Jay Flight like seen in this video no less!) But I'm not UNhappy with anything we see here. Weirdly you cannot associate price tags with product quality. It truly is the workmanship of the labor force that will determine whether something is solid or not. A great example there is Catalina. There is absolutely nothing special about a Catalina on paper. They're not built using any sort of special materials. Yet we just do NOT see them back for service work. What they do they do WELL -- and they exist in that "Entry Level" price point. We love having them here. A lot has changed since you first got your camper and let me tell you -- it continues to change every day. So I think the best thing I can suggest is to speak with a member of our team (assuming you're willing to offer your business to Haylett's of course) & allow us to really get to know you and your camping goals. I think it's important to remember happy customers *rarely* report their experiences. Most of the reviews you see are from the very-vocal-minority. Jay Flight is the highest volume single series of campers out there since 2005. By sheer volume there will be a few that need a little extra work. I think that's the cause behind the symptom you're seeing.
@@JoshtheRVNerd thanks. It would be a niche market but under tip to tip 30ft no slideout bunkhouse with double azdel 4 season ready upscale rv would be nice haha maybe a micro feather xxl

Does anyone know how the solar works? Is it all plug and play? Is there a max wattage you can connect to it? I’d like to put as many solar panels as I could.?!?!
It’s not prepped with the ability to flood the roof with panels. Not fully plug and play either. “Prepped” and “ready” aren’t the same thing in RVing. Ready is plug and lay. Prepped like this means they got it started. My recommendation is to work with a local facility who can assist you with more hands on assistance

just got my new 224bh home , ya. the mount for the tv. doesn't fit the tv? its not a vega set up. dealer said to bring the mount to the tv store and see what brands it fits. that is just dumb. Jayco you listening ?
Likely never. Streaming media has generally taken over the design mindset. They leave available HDMI plugs for those still looking to bring along the disc wallet for rainy days
No RV in this class has extra insulation packages made for protecting the water system in sub-freezing conditions. Cabin temp likely wouldn't be an issue as long as you were pumping the furnace and keeping propane supplied. This is a basic SLX series Jay Flight. The "Full" Jay Flight with Thermal Package will be able to offer some solid extended season service
Almost all "stick and tin" trailers are camp queens including all SLX models like the one shown A Full "Jay Flight" is one of the few with true queens, though most are true queen capable
Thx for inquiring. Just landed & I haven't been able to get that info from our sales office quite yet. Our team at 800-256-5196 can assist you in the mean time!
I definitely agree with that. I cannot speak for Jayco, but if I had to venture a few guesses: * This little guy wasn't really made with a primary focus on entertainment * If I was going to put a TV in, then I'd swap to a swingout mount for sure * If I was going to watch TV, then I'd likely pull the curtain over to the other side to get it out of the way But default though? I definitely agree.
@@JoshtheRVNerd So a swivel one would work here? We're looking at this exact model and that's what has baffled me. We definitely can't use the fixed one because if you're sitting at the dinette then you can't see it. Also, I am wondering if down the road we can remove the dinette and put a couch there to save walking space plus add a little more comfort in seating.
I think so provided the screen isn’t too big. Remember this model wasn’t really made for TV viewing as a primary focus. But I do think it’s some thing went with a good amount you could make work

What is the model for the optional 12V DC Refrigerator?
Furrion
@@JoshtheRVNerd Furrion or Norcold?
This would be perfect for me if it didn’t have the bunk beds and just had extra space since I’m single
I think you'll like this one then: www.haylettautoandrv.com/inv/2020-Jayco-Jay-Flight-212QB-Coldwater-T1814/
I like the fact of a bigger Fridge. I dont like the small Fridges
Those compressor fridges are so great too
Which truck is good for pulling this?
How heavy this RV is that could damage a vehicle?
Great fit for lighter duty half tons or larger class suvs
@@JoshtheRVNerd So my Telluride which can tow 5000 lbs and 500 tongue is a good fit ?
@@thedoc40tt I would not recommend it. By larger SUV I meant more something along the lines of a tow package expedition. By the time you load cargo into this one you're basically smoking 100% of your telluride's capacity which I don't like seeing
just got my new 224bh home , ya. the mount for the tv. doesn't fit the tv? its not a vega set up. dealer said to bring the mount to the tv store and see what brands it fits. that is just dumb. Jayco you listening ?
This is news to me... hmm..
@@JoshtheRVNerd my bad, you have to off set it to get the screw holes to line up, I was trying to center the bracket on the TV.
Is this built for all season weather?
It is not, nor can an SLX be made so from the factory. A Full Flight is closer, but white hawks and eagles are tested and proven. Cougar as well.
Do they make a 224bh with Murphy bed?
Not currently but this one is pretty much that m.ua-cam.com/video/PN9Pqj02uBM/v-deo.html
Can a 2021 Ford ranger with a 7500lb towing capacity handle this or is it too big?
It’s probably the absolute most you want to handle, but for keeping things somewhat local probably be OK
Bluetooth stereo is nice but when are they going to make a BLUERAY stereo combination!
Likely never. Streaming media has generally taken over the design mindset. They leave available HDMI plugs for those still looking to bring along the disc wallet for rainy days
Does anyone know if you can buy a sink cover for this model ? I've checked the jayco website and don't see anything. Maybe an after market product ?
Jayco doesn't offer factory sink covers for SLX models, but we can get you some from a Full Flight or aftermarket options pretty easily
How does it do for durability and reliability?
#1 selling RV since '05 with highest resale value in class. They hold up :)
Do you do solar installation?
You bet. Here's a sample job we did for a client: ua-cam.com/video/th2uCBY3UeM/v-deo.html
Why not camp in colder weather with this model?
No RV in this class has extra insulation packages made for protecting the water system in sub-freezing conditions. Cabin temp likely wouldn't be an issue as long as you were pumping the furnace and keeping propane supplied.
This is a basic SLX series Jay Flight. The "Full" Jay Flight with Thermal Package will be able to offer some solid extended season service
Is that a camp queen or full queen?
Almost all "stick and tin" trailers are camp queens including all SLX models like the one shown
A Full "Jay Flight" is one of the few with true queens, though most are true queen capable
How much??
Thx for inquiring. Just landed & I haven't been able to get that info from our sales office quite yet. Our team at 800-256-5196 can assist you in the mean time!
Huuuuge-Mongus shower 🤣👍

needs a medicine cabinet
The TV being behind the curtain doesnt make sense
I definitely agree with that. I cannot speak for Jayco, but if I had to venture a few guesses:
* This little guy wasn't really made with a primary focus on entertainment
* If I was going to put a TV in, then I'd swap to a swingout mount for sure
* If I was going to watch TV, then I'd likely pull the curtain over to the other side to get it out of the way
But default though? I definitely agree.
@@JoshtheRVNerd So a swivel one would work here? We're looking at this exact model and that's what has baffled me. We definitely can't use the fixed one because if you're sitting at the dinette then you can't see it. Also, I am wondering if down the road we can remove the dinette and put a couch there to save walking space plus add a little more comfort in seating.
I think so provided the screen isn’t too big. Remember this model wasn’t really made for TV viewing as a primary focus. But I do think it’s some thing went with a good amount you could make work
@@JoshtheRVNerd This is a big hold up with this camper -- we like to watch a movie together some nights. The Puma 22RBC flips the layout and gives a free wall to mount the TV. Here with this 224bh I can't see where to possibly put it. Is there room to mount an arm on the end of the kitchen overhead cabinet next to the door? Also, Josh, opinion on quality Puma vs Flight SLX?
Just bought this same trailer not impressed at all everything inside is stapled together and breaks easy not happy
Scored a Jayfeather X23E this weekend. The RV supercenter lot was almost empty. People are buying RVs like crazy right now. I guess it is just the safe way to vacation these days?
