The US and SA share a unique cultural experience which is a product of ghettoization. Ghettoization was a formal planned urban spatial construct designed to enforce segregation but particularly segregate blacks from spaces and economic opportunities. Soweto, Compton, Brooklyn, Mamelodi, Tembisa, Queens, Mdantsane and every other hood/township are ghettos not slums but ghettos. All of these places produced the same experiences. South Africa through Apartheid borrowed the concept from the US and France. This unique experience produced Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King, Malcom X and Steve Biko, Zola 7 and 2 pac Shakur, Aretha Franklin and Miriam Makeba, Dr Umar Ifatunde and Julius Malema. The black experience in both countries is very similar and there is very little that the other country would not recognize about the other. The two countries are now the only two countries in the world with a recognized upper middle class amongst it's black population which means that even the development is mirroring each other. Whether it's LA and Cape Town , Durban and Miami, Atlanta and Joburg the experiences are similar and re enforce the similarity but also uniqueness of the two countries. South Africa uniquely presents a very highly developed urban environment while exhibiting rural areas and their unique identity. Great chat guys

You hit that right on the head. Very unique and similar experiences. Which makes the transition like none other when it comes to one relocating. Only if others can know about this.

      This is well articulated.
One mirrors the other and vice versa.
