- Two B52 bombers and a U2 spy plane depart the European area of operations after attending airshows in the UK. Another U2 arrived to take the place of the predecessor.
The B52 Stratofortress 'Junkyard Dog' arrived at RAF Fairford for the Royal International Tattoo (RIAT) on Wednesday, July 17th, under the callsign 'Skull 20'. It remained at the standby bomber airfield to conduct a flypast of the Farnborough International Air Show on Wednesday, July 24th.
Another B52 with the nickname 'Free Bird' also participated in a flypast at Farnborough on Friday, July 26th. That B52 arrived on Tuesday, July 23rd under the callsign 'Skull 21'. Both travelled from Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, USA, before returning on Friday.

A U2 Dragon Lady departed on the same day, presumably back to it's homebase at Beele Air Force Base in California. This U2 was already operating out of RAF Fairford before displaying at RIAT. Another U2 arrived to take it's place a few days later (also seen in this video).

Cobra: as the USAF is now flying the BUFF-H valiant... dies that mean we can start calling em Buffy the Terrorists Slayer? 😂
Two iconic warplanes from the height of the Cold War. 4:05
U-2s are mighty sporty.
They do have a bit of a sporty look about them, don't they? Great description!
1016....my brother was the crew chief of that plane back in the early 70s to the late 80s, i had the honor of being able to go out with him to work on it when we were both stationed together at Ellsworth A.F.B. S.Dakota. i was a missile cop working out in the minuteman II field that spanned the state. having a 3 day on 6 day off schedule made for time for me to go out n work with him. sadly he passed away a few yrs ago....R.I.P. SSGT JOHN HAYLEY
The lead and chase vehicles are crewed by USAF personnel as Fairford is a USAF base,
Alot of black smoke coming from the engines
The take off/climb on that thing is quite surprising to me. I figured itd need a little more speed but with them gian wings or whatever yoi call em it gets a lot of lift really fast
U2 is a pretty STO aircraft ;)
Man that b52 is massive I been under one still cant understand how that thing can get up and
fly
I mean so it’s the c17 and it still flies.
Much thinner than an airliner.
wow amazing! I didn't think the U2 Spy Plane was still operational!?
A lot of people think that. I think they are on the S variant now.
watch top gear when they did the chaser car drive behind the U2
that's kinda the point, both the U2 and The F-117 have been "decommissioned" on paper but are still in operation
Look towards “RAF Akrotiri” you can see them on Google Maps.
U2 is eyes in the sky 😍
B52 is massive.
WHAT A BUSS WATCHING THESE AIRCRAFT /THANKYOU LOVED EVERY MINUTE/CHEERS TO ALL / HUMANS CAN BUILD SUCH AIRCRAFTS AMAZING KEEP SAFE.
It was lovely to have both the U2 and B52 aircraft visits. Long may they have unlimited visits to the UK and Europe. Vladimir Putin needs to understand that NATO and all individual countries will support Ukraine and Europe and, if necessary, we American, British, and Canadian (ABC) can deploy to protect these countries borders. Cold War defence can be quickly reinstalled.
C'est vraiment impressionnant à regarder 😍
Why do the Brits use the lead and chase vehicles after take off's and landings?? Are they afraid the pilots will get lost on the tarmac?
My understanding is that it's both for new pilots on rotation so they become familiar with the 'base' and to keep birds and rodents from being sucked into those engines
@jimmy_wang_ huh, that makes sense. I thought Britain was big into using hawks around the airports to keep those problems at bay. Especially since it was the sport of kings.
@@SMichaelDeHart if you're talking about the white car chasing the Dragon Lady as she came into land...
The car's chasing after her because sat in the front passenger seat is another U2 pilot talking the Dragon Lady's pilot down, calling out altitude and if he's drifing off centre.
Because of the position of the cockpit and the long nose of the U2 the pilot has zero visibility when it comes to landing.
Thanks...good point. I just ever see the vehicle on US Military bases. As in leaders or followers. I have seen it many times in the UK.
Also, when landing the U2 does not have the supports under the wings, and requires extra help to make sure it doesn't flip on one side damaging a wing.

2 old warriors that should have been given the grace of retirement of "what could have been" But, they are forced to soldier on, in a time even more insecure and dangerous than even the heights of 1962.
Just because ego and vanity wins over reason.
would love to see some paris olympics security videos
The fuck you talking about
It’s probably better than the security we had for trump. lol
@@MaryMannion well yeah I hope so, they're protecting the whole city lol
U2 is highly sensitive aircraft the white vehicle is security. Follow the plane until it’s landed safely and is docked safely in a hangar. Please is guarded 24-7.
Nahh... Wokeness is what you will see in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The U2 when taking off, the wing wheels fall off…what happens when she lands?
They have reinforced wing tips with wear pads that get changed, but the speed is so slow when they finally tip over its all part of the spec. The guys in the pickup carry the wheels and clip them on. If you look at the U2 take off prep you see the ground crew prepping the wheels for dropping after take off.
Why is the u.s a.f getting rid of it,s A 10 after they have spent a lot of money on new wings for them or is it cose they don't want there service men to survive
Machines of destruction.
The first plane is a U2
Great human pyramid trio and salute! @ 12:18 (left side)
Haha, that's actually awesome! Well spotted.
whats the purpose of the white car at the start of the video following the plane landing?
It's a chase car - guides the pilot down over the radio, as they can't see runway over that huge nosecone
ภาระกิจอันยิ่งไหญ่ของb_52😢😢
what camera do you use? thanks
Panasonic HC-X20
Brill thanks!
Impressionnant mais qu'on nous donne pas de leçons sur l'écologie ou le CO2 ou je ne sais quoi autre. 😢😢😢
Damn, that U-2 is an ugly bird, isn't she? Interesting video, thanks!
I love keeping any jet around, but why on eath do they still need the U2?
I'm sure its still a valuable asset. Its still the only spy plane that can fly 13-14 miles in the sky. basically undetectable unless you're looking for it (which nobody is anymore, since they are "decommissioned") it's been upgraded with stealth coating and can communicate to satellites and ground assets better (bunch of other secret spy stuff i'm sure).
Prob cause it’s capable of flying at really high altitudes.
where the money comes from.
Those planes run on diesel?
Nah but they are old
Surely these planes are not still in service?
Yes they are
The B52 will go on for another 50 years.
@@TesterAnimal1 Bro the B52 will be present during an intergalactic war.
The U2 however is a surprise that it is still in service today, let alone fly.
B52 andB1 bombers,, carriers and subs,, F22s heading to mediteranian. Gee,, ya think something's up
I mean yeah Middle East is going down. Too bad we can’t just mind our own business
Dinosaurs still exist.
neat
Where were the B52s going? Russo-Nazi hunting?
I thought U2s were Dinosaurs
So are B-52s.
