Watched this specifically to hear about Jed the wolfdog, only for one of the most infamous animal performances in all of Hollywood to not be mentioned at all.
One who sticks with me from my childhood is Gentle Ben, the bear from Grizzly Adams. I loved that show as a kid.
Jed, the husky from John Carpenter's The Thing, was unjustly ignored in this video as well as by the academy.
One of my all-time favorite movies!
Jed (wolf/malamute hybrid) was also in White Fang and The Journey of Natty Gann as well as The Thing. Totally unjust being left off the list.
How could you leave out Asta??? There were several animals from the Golden Age, so how did Asta slip through this filter?
A dog named Skipbo was one smart dog, Texas Country Reporter featured him on one of their episodes. Another great story TCR had was "Ms Opel's chair."
I can't believe they didn't mention Lassie or Skippy...
Let's not forget that in the 1938 Adventures of Robin Hood, the palomino palfry ridden by Lady Marian (Olivia de Haviland) was none other than Trigger 😊

Wasn't Bart the bear in Grizzley Adams? That looked like Dan Hagerty in that picture. The place in Arizona where the MGM lion crashed is near where I live. It's called Hellsgate Wilderness.
I cannot even fathom the logistics of flying an orca!

FYI: a near miss is a hit. If something nearly happens it does not happen, hence the miss does not occur, by default that means the hit, collision, or crash referrenced does happen.

How about a really deep dive: Zimbo the dog from The Man Who Laughs (1928) did an incredible performance in that film! I'm sure info must be scarce on him though.
Like others I was disappointed at the lack of Jed the wolf-dog.

Orangey the cat (The Incredible Shrinking Man, Breakfast at Tiffany's) and Josephine the monkey (The Kid Brother, The Cameraman) gave top tier animal performances.
And I recall Joe Dante saying that Mushroom, the dog in Gremlins, was one of the best actors he ever worked with.

@@mentalflosserin I think there were 5 dogs in that series. My mother and her siblings won a puppy from the only female Lassie, in a contest.

Max absolutely killed it in The Mask. My family was dumbfounded that anyone could convince a dog actor to drop a slice of cheese and not eat it. Of course, we had poorly trained dogs.

Is it *_REALLY_* that remarkable to get a cat to drink milk from a baby bottle? Cats are usually pretty keen to drink milk, doesn't seem like much of a stretch to get one to do something a bit unusual if the cat knows it directly results in it getting what it wants. I mean, even hamsters have no trouble learning how to drink water from a water bottle.

x My friend, who is a dog trainer, has an interesting lifestyle and social circle.
o He uses positive reinforcement to train the dogs.
o The dog-training network is extremely casual and they will do things like sleep in each other's houses and garages with little to no notice if they are in Omaha.
o Some of the dog owners that he meets are so introverted that the only time they ever go outside of their homes (other than for daily tasks like work) are to meet other dogs owners at the dog parks.
o There are a wide range of dog shelters AKA Rescues, mostly in the Midwest, that stay in contact with the network.
o We once met dog trainer Zak George at the Nebraska State Fair in Lincoln.

o We had a German Shepherd for our family dog when we lived in Midvale (a countryside of Garfield County), her name was Farrah and she named after the actress/model Farah Fawcett.
o There is a crazy show called The Littlest Hobo which stars a German Shepherd, the dog is like an angel that goes from town to town helping people and doing outlandish things like skydiving.
o I really love the computer game Wolfenstein 3D, but hate shooting the German Shepherd dogs that try to attack you throughout the levels.
o German Shepherd are often used as cadaver dogs and drug-sniffing dogs.
o On the sketch comedy In Living Color, Duke The Dead Dog is a seemingly dead German Shepherd that ends up doing all types of surprising things.
o "Jerry Lee" is a German Shepherd in the film K-9.
o In the film A Dog's Purpose, Hercules is a German Shepherd that is reincarnated and tries to find his purpose.
x Speaking of bears...
o Bart The Bear was on White Fang, which was my favorite movie at the time (and an early Ethan Hawke film)
o Bart The Bear was also on Benji The Hunted (I saw that in the theater) and some of my elementary schoolmates called me both Benji and Benji The Hunted after that.
o The is the famous public service announcement (psa) for Smokey The Bear whose tagline was "Only YOU can prevent forest fires."
o Yogi The Bear should be the mascot for the National Parks system.
o There is Goldilocks and The Three Bears.
o I remember seeing The Care Bears Movie in the theater, it was about an evil spirit that was teaching a boy to help others be cruel and mean and the Care Bears had to intervene.
o Gentle Ben is a bear and main character of the book and tv series of the same name.
o The other night, on NBC Nightly News, a group of people pulled cubs out of a bear enclosure only to take selfies of them.
o Baloo is a main character of The Jungle Book and also the cartoon series Tailspin.
† Disney's Block Party (an after school programming block) had the cartoons Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers, Ducktales, Tailspin, and Darkwing Duck (it rocks!).
x Speaking of cat tricks...
o I don't formally train my cats to do tricks but they often just spontaneously do them...
o There is a community cat that used to run up to me if I made a clicking noise (the cat would think I had some food..)
o My tortoiseshell cats Mojo and Charm often roll on the ground and want to get a stomach rub.
o My cat Ginger Spice will go into "wildcat mode" where she will all of a sudden start actually wild and spazzy and it will continue for up to five minutes.
o The community cat Jane Doe always signals for treats by jumping on the table (in front of the window) and stares at me until I get food for her...she actually rarely eats the food but seems to find some sense of enjoyment getting it for the other cats around.
o The community cat Taylor Swift will "tag along" like she is a kid sister and walk right next to me when I am walking around nearby.
o Charm has a center of control on my lap where no other cats can compete with and they are unable to even push her off!
o Mojo does a "trustfall" where she will lay back really quickly simply to see if I am paying attention and will catch her.
o Chance, a tortoiseshell community cat, will wait alongside the road when I walk to the post office until I walk back.
o Ginger Spice stretches her arms up on my leg when she wants picked up and put on my shoulders.
o Lisa often stands on her back legs for no known reason.
x Speaking of famous horses...
o One of my mother's favorite books is Black Beauty.
o I used to watch Mr. Ed on Nick-at-Nite all the time.
o There is Oscar who played Hidalgo on the film of the same name.
o Silver is the white horse for The Lone Ranger.
o In the book Gulliver's Travels, the Houyhnhnms are intelligent, rational horses that are smarter than their humanoid counterparts called Yahoos.
o When Pizarro went to talk to the Inca leaders in his conquest of that South America area, he was on a horse...something the people of that area had never seen before!
o There is Spirit, the horse in the film Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
o There is also the Black stallion.
o For junior high and high school pep band, we used to play the song "Mustang Sally."
