  • It's hard to lay claim to easy visible authority when you're radiating green from every pore.
    In other words, the green screen fringe.
    This isn't the only thing you need to do to get a superior key, but if you can't do this, none of the rest matters.
    You'll want the pdf that goes into more detail about the physical set-up...i.e. lights, camera, distances, screen fabric and other peripherals you're going to want:

    Nice tips!
    Another tool is using rgb leds green or blue to light the screen.
    Takes care of color discrepancies.
    And use false color tool, or rgb parade to check the screen ire and color levels.
    The most effective is zone lightning.
    Keeping at least 2 to 3 meters away from background to avoid spill.

    I've had some success backlighting with with Magenta, mostly just around the head. Any green light bouncing back at the subject has the magenta mix with it to make White, or close enough to mitigate hair catching the green for the matte.

    Hi Steven, thank you so much for another great video upon Chroma Key technique! Again I took notes in order to convert all your hints into a working green screen system at home and that really helps a lot. :-) One question: Is there a good source for the living room backgrounds you are compositing yourself in post? I'm still searching for these kinds of backgrounds. Thank you!

    Anyone know if there are settings for an Android phone that are more conducive to green screen? Just upping the resolution, for instance? A nice DSLR is not in my budget yet.

    Hey Steven! thanks for your videos. If the green screen is bigger, on needs more light and also it there more spill that can happen and bounce back?

    • @StevenWasher
      @StevenWasher  2 місяці тому

      I don’t think so. Spill is a function of proximity and intensity. You can only be in one spot at a time. You just want the light as even as possible, then balance exposure of subject and background.

    Vegas hasn't been owned by Sony for years. It's Magix Vegas now. Also, while many cameras will record a 100 megaBIT file, very few will record 100 megaBYTES. Other than this, good info.

    Thanks for sharing helpful information. I have a question regarding blur, I can seem to get a reasonable key, but the fast moving hands causes blur which I can not get rid of the blue outline from blurred motion. I've tried different frame rates and shutter speed, but still nothing seems to work. I feel maybe its the camera Im using which is a Canon M50? Im aware that is very basic camera, but would it be causing me a lot of issues with Chroma Key. Btw Im using Blue screen on my videos. Thanks

    • @StevenWasher
      @StevenWasher  3 роки тому +2

      Blur is caused by motion faster than the frame rate can keep it resolved. When you're trying to remove pixels at the same time, it further overwhelms the process. If you have a lot of faster motion, then you'll need a greater frame rate AND you'll likely need to shoot with a camera that offers 4:2:2 color space. Why? Because that gives you double the color pixels, thus more pixels closer to your outline, thus a greatly increased chance that movement UNDER 60 frames per second will be accompanied by pristine footage without the green outline. And movement above 60 fps will have much fewer green artifacts.

      @@StevenWasher thanks, I appreciate your help & advise. I think I will need to upgrade my camera next as the Canon M50 is very basic and entry level. Looking at the LUMIX GH5s. What lens would you recommend for that camera for blue screen? The shot I will be using it for is fairly close up, half body frame like a news caster. Thanks again 🙏🏻

      I have not, but friends have and have found it beneficial when it wasn't reflecting excessively. That's why I like the sort of felt-like texture for small rooms. Less reflection back to the subject. Hope that helps!

    Just to be pedantic, your super and associated verbiage should be 100Mbps, not 100MBps. Recording formats are most commonly measured in megabits, not megabytes. :)
