well another year has passed and I found this treasure chest of Christmas time music on UA-cam and I am playing it again this year, thank you so much for the original posting ! God Bless !
Our family tradition was that Christmas morning could not begin until the living room was prepared. When we heard this record, we knew the Christmas Magic was about to begin. We *only* played this record on Christmas Day, so is a very powerful memory for me.
This is my favorite Christmas record of all time. Thank you thank you thank you. And with lights too! PROPER lights......bulbs. This album sounds like a shimmering tree looks.
I first heard this album while on a Christmas trip to Ouray, Colorado in 1980. It was magical to hear in that Christmas-card mountain town. I bought the album a couple years later and still have it, although I've transferred it to CD, but this is amazing finding it right here on youtube. Thank you for posting it!
Thank you so much ! I had a record player like that too. That was a step up big time from my first little 45 player. The sound was like I had gone to heaven. The older I get Christmas is such a melancholy time. My mom is passed on. All Christmas ran thru my mom for quite a long time. I miss her so much but despite the melancholy I am drawn to the beauty of the music and do enjoy it very much.
Amazing I'm listening to the last centuries technology played on a turntable thru wifi on my cell phone!!!Of all the CD's I got rid if when we moved this is the only one I miss, thanks for posting it !!
Thank you for putting my childhood Christmas memories all wrapped up into my favorite Christmas album onto UA-cam. Oddly, this was the second Music Box Christmas album we bought, as my family was so enchanted by the first. It had many of the same songs but came with this cover: merryandbright.blogspot.ca/2010/11/music-box-christmas.html
You may find the album on e-bay as well as the Amazon Marketplace, where you usually get cheaper prices. Another one I would recommend, which is not on UA-cam right now, is "Christmas Magic". That's another fine album of Christmas tunes on antique music boxes. You'll very likely find that on CD.
A purchase by my parents over SIXTY YEARS AGO, ''A Music Box of Christmas Carols: Music Boxes from the Bornand Collection / The Welch Chorale'' still plays: the delight and crispness of Christmas on warm, deep black, finely-etched vinyl. AH! what could evoke a more magnificent aural, tactile, and visual experience of yearning and nostalgia? Note well the liner notes. Honor the pioneering efforts of the publisher: Vanguard ASIN: B000M223AG! You unsleeve it; you handle carefully - by the edges - you spindle it on your 33-1/3 turntable, and carefully wipe the grooves. But this experience is surely NOT just for the folks like me who grew up with this amazing LP. Of course, the Bornand Family Collection of Music Boxes have their own Christmas LPs, but this collection seems so perfectly balanced; Welch's tiny choir sings a vigorous a'cappella, the music boxes take up the stirring refrains. The inevitable scratches and pops add immeasurably to the charm and verve of the playback. Use your old stereo, or drop the disc in a solid wood, SCOTT Hi-Fi! "SING WE NOEL ONCE MORE" really grabs me by its rarity on Holiday albums. "ONCE MARY WOULD GO WANDERING" ... Splendid, tho' so seldom heard at any time of year. Look at these lyrics, as popularized by Joan Baez: Once Mary would go wandering to other land would run that she might find her Son, that she might find her Son Whom met she as she journeyed forth saint Peter, that good man who sadly did her scan, who sadly did her scan "Oh tell me have you seen Him yet the One I love the most the Son Whom I have lost, the Son Whom I have lost" "Too well, too well I've seen thy Son 'twas by a palace gate most grievous was His state, most grievous was His state For save what wore He on His head a crown of thorns He wore a cross He also bore, a cross He also bore" Once Mary would go wandering to other land would run that she might find her Son, that she might find her Son ' Moving, no? Why would Christ come into this wicked old world, but for to bear His cross - for sinners like me? (AMAZON REVIEW)
+Wim Grundy Speaking of Bornard, I happen to have found this at a rummage sale. Also added it to Discogs: www.discogs.com/No-Artist-Old-Music-Box-Waltz-Melodies/release/5418770 A couple of CDs I would recommend for Christmas tunes on music boxes: www.amazon.com/Christmas-Magic-Antique-Musical-Boxes/dp/B000B56JHM www.amazon.com/Music-Box-Christmas-Rita-Ford/dp/B001V7543E
It was way back in 2006, when I signed up for UA-cam with my now suspended account. I've seen videos of 78 RPM records (as well as 45's and 33's and such). That gave me an idea to upload records playing on my late '70s Pioneer turntable (before I got the one you see, here). I also uploaded videos of my CDs playing on my 2003 Fisher SLIM 1400. These days, I hardly upload to UA-cam due to this not-always-accurate ID content thing. Besides, I get busy with other stuff. Whenever I upload videos, they would be on Vimeo. vimeo.com/fritzster
Yes, I know. I sorta thought of something like that when I saw the name "Pickwick". At least, it doesn't skip and can play very well. If anyone reading this comment wants to know: You can find this album on eBay. Some copies go for more than others. As for making videos longer than 15 minutes: When I was about to upload a video, there was a notice in a blue box telling me that I now have the privilege of posting videos longer than 15 minutes. I don't know how, but it was good news for me.
thank you for adding this to UA-cam, many happy memories from these sounds of days gone by
