I miss this old movies. You just can't help falling in love with them.
I have hundreds of these old programs downloaded on my iPod. I listen to those to go to sleep at night. Reminds me of laying on the floor in front of our upright radio record player.🤪
Based on the old radio suspense program "The Whistler" a wildly popular program out of California in the 40's and early 50's . I enjoy listening to the programs, on Old Time Radio, at night when I'm working on projects, on my computer. It's nice to see some of them made into movies, to watch. :-)
+Daisy Flowers I remember listening to the “Whistler” and the “Creaking Door” on our old RCA radio. The odd thing was we kids, (my sister, brother and I), would set on the floor and LOOK at that old radio, as if we were going it
see something.
oldgysgt
Hilarious!.. I think that all has to do with the great programming, do you think?.. I remember my Mom and Dad telling me about listening to their fav shows, on the radio. My Dad was a fan of Gangbusters and Inner Sanctum, and The Shadow. My Mom said She listened to The Whistler. I know I sure enjoy The Whistler and also the Great Guildersleeve.
gee i feel really old. used to listen to gunsmoke and palladin on the radio. use to have collection of the whistler on lp
proudbluestaterful
My Parents also listened to all those great old radio shows. I'm glad they are the internet for all to enjoy again, as I do. If interested,
one can go to archive.org and listen in. They have a collection there that doesn't quit.
I can relate...imagination is a wonderful thing to have with old time radio.
They used to show this on early 60's Saturday afternoon..... memories.
That’s when I first saw them!
THE WHISTLER MOVIES WERE MADE WITH CLASS, STYLE, MYSTERY,GREAT STORY, EXCELLENT ACTING !!!; TOO BAD WE CANT FIND THAT IN 2018
archive.org/details/audio
In the eighties, CBS Radio ran an hour-long Radio drama show. Loved listening to them while driving through the night. And I believe it was called The old-time radio. Where they would play two half-hour shows. You could rent tapes of radio shows and movies at truck stops. Just got tired of music. the top 40. Didn't make a difference. No matter where you were in the country, you would hear the same songs played at the same time. Usually, the number one song led the hour after the canned news feed that you here twice an hour all day long. and sometimes the next day too, verbatim.
The hotel clerk and the groundskeeper are great. The dog is very good too.
Enjoyed this. I don't think this Whistler series ever aired in the UK. Thanks for posting this.
Great classic series
Ed
I enjoy this couple interacting in the first scene.
They are so in love and it’s plain to see nothing will ever pull them apart!
Nichols left his gun on the doctor's desk when he left the sanatorium.....sloppy.... Lots of fun, these Whistler programs. Thank you very much for uploading.
Top mystery and top story thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Big fan of Richard Dix. I seen all of the Whistler movies growing up in the 1940s. To bad for health problems he didn't star in this last one of the Whistler.
I hadn't seen this in over fifty years!! Thank you so much for posting!
Yes it’s an oldie but goodie
Both are 😘😎
I had a teacher in the 6 grade who played a lot of old radio programs on records we get done early he played the shadow some of bob hopes old shows it was really neat this was back.in 70
@rmscarinthia
The creepiest stories are those that could happen to anyone of us.
Thank you very much for sharing!
The detective, Richard, (Dick), Lane, started a new career in the 1950s as a TV wrestling "blow by blow" announcer on the old KTLA channel 5 out of Las Angles. His signature saying was, "Woe Nelly". He also did Roller Derby announcing on the same station. The "good" guys were the Las Angels Thunderbirds, and the "Heavys" were the Chicago Bombers.
Oh yeah, I remember Dick Lane announcing th wrestling & roller derby & his Woe Nelly. Too funny what my parents watched when I was a kid & that was about all there was to watch & we gathered around our green screen TV. Thanks for bringing back old memories
My Grandfather used to say "Old Nelly" all the time! He was from N. Carolina, a CO in the Navy during WWII. And I've wondered where that saying comes from? I thought it was about a horse?
Wonderful series
I'm a big fan of the radio series so I had to watch. The whistler had to be there of course. Never new they made screen versions. Although this wasn't that good, I'm gonna try out a few more to see if it has the same appeal as what I still, occasionally listen to. Thanks uploader
Mr Gavin, I am sure you will enjoy them. I too love the old Radio shows, but the films are very good. No disgusting sex scenes, just great stories, good actors, and fine films. Mare
I'm not sure how many of the radio shows you have listened to Mare. If you're interested I can forward you a link to a site that has many episodes of The Whistler. John
+Mary Wilder no disgusting sex scenes, thank god.
This story was written by Cornell Woolrich one of the best writers of mystery fiction ever.
So sad Mr. Dix retired! He was the “Whistler”! Miss him !
Yah! Great episode!
No great shakes here. Standard 40s B mystery...and no Richard Dix!
And with Ann Doran looking glamorous!
Got the good Whistler tune, though. "I am the Whistler...."
""You know how to whistle, don't you, Baby? Just pucker up and blow""..Good movie. Good acting, unusual story line. Thoroughly enjoyable. thanks for uploading!!
To Have and Have Not
This was enjoyable enough but i would class it as the weakest of The Whistler series Richard Dix brought something special to his diverse roles and was sorely missed. Thanks for posting.
I agree. The Dix versions were much darker and foreboding.
+DaisyFlowers i love old radio shows too, esp the whistler, rocky jordan, sam spade, dragnet, and theater guild of the air. Im not old enough to have heard them as a kid but so glad they are available to us now. There are a number of good podcast explaining the history around many of the shows as well!
OTR is the finest entertainment available; I listen to it every day of my life.
I vaguely remembered The Whistler Series when they premiered on television. The only memory is of the shadow whistling an eerie tune.
I really enjoyed this. I hope there are a bunch more for me to find. :D Thanks for sharing. Love it. :D :D :D
Beautiful cars
Enjoyed, thanks for posting.
Don't forget the Roma Wine commercial ;)
Just begun to watch this very exciting film! Thank you for sharing it with us! .... Incidentally, that cop was totally out of order, in not even registering the young French lady as a missing person! xxxxx
Great movie!
My goodness. Wilbur Hatch ("leading the Desi Arnaz Orchestra") on "I Love Lucy", shows up all over the place if you look for him. I had no idea he wrote The Whistler theme.
Yup. The radio broadcast always says, Music for The Whistler was composed by Wilbur Hatch...
Thanks so much for sharing! What a great B movie.
Awesome movie 🎥
AWSOME Film Had me guessing till the end
This film reminds me of the film "My Name is Julia Ross".
Not seen this before .. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing.
Glad I found you.
“On the eve of his marriage, a young man's fiance disappears. He hires a private detective to help him track her down, but soon finds himself entangled in a web of lies, intrigue and murder revolving around his fiance's dead ex-husband and his wealthy, corrupt family.”
THE WHISTLER KNOWS....I remember those days.
Actually so did the SHADOW--know that is
Thank you
For those who want the true storytelling of the original radio broadcasts - right now (December 12 2021) I have up on my computer WAMU public radio at American University in D.C. - The Big Broadcast is on NOW with the original radio shows - a Gunsmoke segment, Damon Runyan Theater, Dragnet, Fibber MacGee and Molly and others - and last but not least, The Whistler. The Big Broadcast, hosted LIVE every Sunday night by Murray Horwitz on WAMU from 6:30 to 11:00 p.m., is the longest running program on WAMU.
great movie
Signal oil. You go farther with signal gas
Clyde J. Kell , a radio DJ, often plays the radio drama of "The Whistler" on www. mpir-otr . com

Just wasn't the same without Richard Dix. But it was still a decent picture. Micheal Duane did a good job.
I wonder how long that desk clerk would last in a real hotel.
The more incompetent the better. Standards are squirrelly. He would be just great.
TCM aired 4 of the films last night. Havent seen them in a LONG time. But in the first, The Whistler the killer was about to kill Richard Dix, and the Whistler appeared and whistles distracting the killer. I wondered if he was a bit like the Shadow or more like the narrator in things like this.
If memory serves, George Sanders also did the role.
Sanders had a great voice and played the smarmy Casanova to perfection
Good one, thanks.
What a wonderful, creepy movie. It kept me wondering every other moment what was happening and I hated that old woman and her son, although he was good looking. I’m going to try to find more it The Whistlers movies to watch. 😊😊😊
yessss! It better then what's on tv now! The young people won't get it to seed a good movie
archive.org/details/audio
Good triumphs over evil! What's not to like?
+Steven Torrey I agree. We need more uplifting films like this.
Well, that depends; us Evil Guys always get discriminated against! We should form a union and sue! ;)
Well never seen b4 but i can say good old B/K movie did like this one
Not sure why alot of these old movies and other films, show the driver sliding to passenger seat to exit the tanks. Wonder if it was like the norm or somthing. Funny though 🤣 😂 😆 😄 😅
I've wondered that myself. I was thinking it might have something to do with how they needed to position the camera, but it does look weird. You couldn't even do that with cars today.
20:50. He puts an ice pack on her ankle, and she assumes he's a doctor.
@lignore Repliesfrombores
LOL...
I guess it`s how confidently one does things :)
At around 40 minutes in, when the guy pushes her onto the chair and she says “I hate all of you “… She then turns her face toward the chair in what looks like an attempt to stifle a laugh!
The whistler creeps me out
Epic music
That's the best 1
I love happy endings!
Yes.... that satisfaction
This is not Paul Temple.
Good
P D James wrote ''Devices and Desires'' which featured a murderer nicknamed The Norfoilk Whistler. Wonder if she based the idea on this.
david pattison No she did not base it on this series. But nice of you to think of aunty. 😊 She would be amused. Devices was one of her favourites.
What a great story! Golly gee wiz criminals are so stupid. They could have had Alice sign over her inheritance to the family? That is legal. As she offered to give them EVERYTHING if they would let her go?
Looks good but can't post comment 'till i see it tonight on my IPad
One stupid line in there .... Whats the matter with the car... i don't know maybe the spark plugs got a little wet.
I haven't seen or heard the Whistler since I was a kid. Two out of five stars for this one. Too bad about the voice/film sync.
+Mike Ballard OLD TIME RADIO IS A CHANNEL ON PAY RADIO.....HAS ALL THE RADIO PROGRAMS BEFORE TV ....
Should never left the radio studio.
it would have been more interesting if she was in a parallel world and everybody thought he was crazy.
This lady would never betray him
💜💛💚👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💜💛💚
If this were true, when they find out the girl was telling the truth, besides arresting, charging and imprisoning the relatives - the hospital, doctor and nurses needs to be charged with aiding and betting a felony, kidnapping, assault and torture. The institution needs to be shut down and those involved should never be allowed to practice medicine again.
Some people actually enjoy being mean and deceitful
I know many things (don’t we all) cause I walk by night (so you’re a prowler)....
Any more Whistler series?
Damn that is one hellacious wedding night LOL!
I’ve had two wedding nights and neither was better than these. 3rd times a charm? (LOL ?)
@@jacquelinejanz8466 Were either of the marriages better than the wedding nights?
Tom Ripsin
Thanks for for your interest 😁😂
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I came here thinking this was about art theft.
Mr. Nickels? Where's Mr. Dimes? XD | Sorry. I like to comment a lot.
Return of the whistler, eh? Where's he been?
'Walking by night', I guess.
It’s a mystery 😉
indeed..😀
48:30 sanitarium misspelled as sanatarium
# Steve Eaton: This is done in films and literature to avoid confusion with the real thing. It's like a character who works in the circus as an animal trainer and big cat showman with a name like Leo Pard. This way, they don't get sued for anything disparaging, or sued because some person is claiming defamation of character or other things, just to be litigious.
West Winds Thanks.
It can be spelled either way. Google it. You cannot be sued for using a common noun, only if you use a name that is copyrighted or trademarked, or someones proper name. Sanitarium is more common but I think "A" is more British.
Just started watching, but had to comment. At 5::03 he left his car window open in the pouring rain?
+LINDA BROWN I do that all the time. Ans the moon roof.. ouch - I've flooded my car a couple of times.
Bad driving to the motorists in back of these people. The motorists don't know how to use their turn signals :p
Do you like being able to voice your opinion in these comments? STAY AWAY from any upload from " Films from the Vaults"!! That creep stabs ads, and disallows comments so you can't complain!
I have been jumping from channel to channel
I’m only watching this off a comment from a little nightmares theory movie ngl
48:30 the spelling bee!

Dix nix’d this pix
Is that doc from gunsmoke?
Doc is also in Sherlock (Musgrave Manor) the love interest of Hillary Brooke aka Sally.
Good story.(ls69freestyle)
is it whilester
Don’t you have any heart at all? 19:30
Boo.
Annoying music wen nothing is actually happening. Hotel Receptionist Stingy shit/mean & has the audacity to judge his customer for his own behaviour towards them. I bet he's the 'whistler'.. Cus, now he's acting innocent. Btw...I'm a new comer to these films & this era.....'you're only fortunate love-if he's not the whistler'....'whom I presume is a murderer? Or just the Narrator?
Lame 😒
