I have hundreds of these old programs downloaded on my iPod. I listen to those to go to sleep at night. Reminds me of laying on the floor in front of our upright radio record player.🤪

Based on the old radio suspense program "The Whistler" a wildly popular program out of California in the 40's and early 50's . I enjoy listening to the programs, on Old Time Radio, at night when I'm working on projects, on my computer. It's nice to see some of them made into movies, to watch. :-)

+Daisy Flowers I remember listening to the “Whistler” and the “Creaking Door” on our old RCA radio. The odd thing was we kids, (my sister, brother and I), would set on the floor and LOOK at that old radio, as if we were going it
      see something.

Hilarious!.. I think that all has to do with the great programming, do you think?.. I remember my Mom and Dad telling me about listening to their fav shows, on the radio. My Dad was a fan of Gangbusters and Inner Sanctum, and The Shadow. My Mom said She listened to The Whistler. I know I sure enjoy The Whistler and also the Great Guildersleeve.

My Parents also listened to all those great old radio shows. I'm glad they are the internet for all to enjoy again, as I do. If interested,
one can go to archive.org and listen in. They have a collection there that doesn't quit.

In the eighties, CBS Radio ran an hour-long Radio drama show. Loved listening to them while driving through the night. And I believe it was called The old-time radio. Where they would play two half-hour shows. You could rent tapes of radio shows and movies at truck stops. Just got tired of music. the top 40. Didn't make a difference. No matter where you were in the country, you would hear the same songs played at the same time. Usually, the number one song led the hour after the canned news feed that you here twice an hour all day long. and sometimes the next day too, verbatim.

The detective, Richard, (Dick), Lane, started a new career in the 1950s as a TV wrestling "blow by blow" announcer on the old KTLA channel 5 out of Las Angles. His signature saying was, "Woe Nelly". He also did Roller Derby announcing on the same station. The "good" guys were the Las Angels Thunderbirds, and the "Heavys" were the Chicago Bombers.

For those who want the true storytelling of the original radio broadcasts - right now (December 12 2021) I have up on my computer WAMU public radio at American University in D.C. - The Big Broadcast is on NOW with the original radio shows - a Gunsmoke segment, Damon Runyan Theater, Dragnet, Fibber MacGee and Molly and others - and last but not least, The Whistler. The Big Broadcast, hosted LIVE every Sunday night by Murray Horwitz on WAMU from 6:30 to 11:00 p.m., is the longest running program on WAMU.

TCM aired 4 of the films last night. Havent seen them in a LONG time. But in the first, The Whistler the killer was about to kill Richard Dix, and the Whistler appeared and whistles distracting the killer. I wondered if he was a bit like the Shadow or more like the narrator in things like this.

The institution needs to be shut down and those involved should never be allowed to practice medicine again.

      # Steve Eaton: This is done in films and literature to avoid confusion with the real thing. It's like a character who works in the circus as an animal trainer and big cat showman with a name like Leo Pard. This way, they don't get sued for anything disparaging, or sued because some person is claiming defamation of character or other things, just to be litigious.

It can be spelled either way. Google it. You cannot be sued for using a common noun, only if you use a name that is copyrighted or trademarked, or someones proper name. Sanitarium is more common but I think "A" is more British.
