    Kumar Purnima is a significant festival celebrated in Odisha, particularly among young girls. It is observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Ashwina, which usually falls between October and November. The festival is dedicated to Kartikeya, the son of Lord Shiva, and is also known as Sharad Purnima.
    Traditions of Kumar Purnima
    Unmarried girls fast and worship the moon on this day, with the belief that they will get a suitable groom like Kartikeya.
    They wear new clothes and worship the moon with offerings of flowers, fruits, and other items.
    The puja starts in the early morning and continues till the moon sets.
    Celebrations in India
    In Bengal, Assam, and Tripura, the festival is known as Kojagari Purnima.
    In these regions, it is believed that Goddess Lakshmi visits people's houses on this night and checks whether they are awake. !
    People stay awake all night, and kheer (a sweet dish) is prepared and kept under the moonlight.

    Celebrations outside India
    In Nepal, the festival is known as Kojagrat Purnima and marks the end of the 15-day Dashain festival celebrations.

    The festival is also celebrated as the birth anniversary of Valmiki, the composer of the Hindu epic Ramayana.
    It is also known as Sharad Purnima, which marks the end of the monsoon season.
