Your knowledge of all these old school/alternative/pirate way to make an offroader is impressive! I cant wait to see how this S10 performs. I watch Rudy and Holly and they seem like they are winging it. But axles and suspension might be all that Ram needs. The Dumpster Fire guy is doing a lot of body work, and relying on mostly stock running gear. Great work!
Really love the cheap Jeep/ off-road stuff! Learning a ton and good to see ways to keep it cheap! Your knowledge of 4x4 stuff is immense! Keep it up Colt love the channel so much
Just a suggestion - put the 6-pinion planet in the rear 231J t-case - it can see 2.72x the torque that it normally would from the output of the front doubler when the front doubler section is in low. The front doubler should be fine with the OE planet gears as it should be designed to hold the torque output of the 4.3L-700R4. Not that putting a 6 pinon planet in the front doubler is a bad idea but if you are on a budget and only have access to (1) 6-pinion planet set... If you need extra 6 pinion planet sets, NP241C/243C cases are a good source and cheap at a u-pull if you pull the gears out of it at the yard... If you are into the 231J rear case you can upgrade the chain and drive gears to the wider chain and drive gears found in NP231D (Dodge truck) t-cases.
Would it be just as easy to run the dodge 231 t case and the source a 6 gear planetary to put your stock 231 in front of it or is it not compatible im just curious you seem to have knowledge and I’m trying to learn. I might be doing something similar soon on a build
@@KC-7mm The 231D has a few advantages over the 231J: It has the wide chain and sprockets (same width as the 241/243 cases, 1-1/4" width vs. 1" on the 231J IIRC), the two 231Ds that I have had apart also used a double roller bearing on the input gear. I've had several 231Js apart and you only get the single roller bearing on the input gear. The 231D also has a 32 spline slip yoke for the rear output, the 231J is 27spline? slip yoke OEM. Maybe not as important as a slip yoke eliminator is the better option than retaining the slip yoke, but if your on a budget... The 231Ds I've had apart also have steel retainer for the spring loaded shift rail that rests on the back half of the case, this prevents the spring from eating into the back case half over time, haven't seen this feature in the 231J. Makes sense, a fullsize 1/2 ton truck that came with a 5.9L V8 probably needs a heavier duty tcase than a 4.0L Cherokee... When swapping in a 6-pinion planet gear from say a 241/243C keep in mind that sometime in '94 (I think) the sun, planet and ring gear cut was changed so that the gear tooth profile was less square and more "pointy". So use a 6-pinion planet from a year range that matches your 231. The old vs. new gear cuts will physically assemble if mixed but it will make bunch of metal shavings in your case and probably ruin it. There are different length input gear stickouts as well, don't remember all the details now... 231J 23 spline input gears varied based on whether the tcase was behind an AX15, NV3550 and the AW automatic, there may be other variations as well. Not sure if the 231D cases used different length 23 spline input gears, but I ran a 231D input gear in a 231J behind an AX15, then changed it to the longer 23 spline input gear when I moved to an NV3550 (took the input gear from the donor Liberty 231J) in the Comanche I used to have.
Great video Colt. I have to take apart my 231 and some of the pointers you show help even the more skilled tech's Cheers and good luck in the challenge.
Colt just wanted to say you are without a doubt one of the best teachers on UA-cam. Legit MVP of bleepinjeep i always learn something watching you build.
I love the 231 doubler. Your work proved it self on OnX challenge. Thank you for the off road education. I like to think of you as Einstein from the south. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I bought and installed the D&D kit 12 years ago. Great upgrade for my XJ. 4.0, auto, dual 231's, front 3 link, rear 4 link, 60's, 5.13's, locked, with 40's. High steer with hydro assist. Front and rear 8000 lb winches.
Wow colt! Thanks for the info. Never thought of the "pressure test" just blowing behind the area. I figured to run a small bead of gasket maker on inside to really make sure.
Great video Colt Hope the S10 is the winner. Glad viewers' are voting. after your last two videos Bleeping Jeeps back in the lead. Remember you can vote everyday to keep them in the lead. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE. :)
I love this channel. 99.9% of what I've learned from here, I will probably never do anything with but it is interesting to me. Unfortunately I dont have any friends that off road or that can help me with my Xj and Im the type of guy that alway does shit the wrong way first. It takes many UA-cam videos and FB info to feel comfortable enough to do slightly technical things. I need to change my pinion gear and new bearings in my rear axle as well as new shift solenoids in my transmission.
'89 XJ 4.0L, manual shift AW4 with Box4Rox 231/231 doubler...love the 2wd lo, & double lo/1st gear is 94:1 thru 4.56 finals! Good to see this being done again. I did add 6 pinion planetary & wide chain (231C) to *rear case* since the torque is tripled to it. Put 4 pinion in front range box. Been runnin' it for years. Do wish I had the sight glass your kit from Froelich came with. JBFab provided my twinsticks (years b4 Josh's WJ!) Wavin' atcha from nearby 57701
I did the 231 doubler 12 years ago, and run XJ 4.0, auto, 5.13 locked 60's. Also 3 link front, 4 link rear with 40's. Crawls and climbs like boss. It's a hell of an upgrade.
So rad! I am new to Jeeps and 4 wheelin' but not new to the wrenching scene by any means. I love seeing cool ways to use stock stuff and save a bundle while having a blast. Thanks Colt
One quick thing a note is the VSS, this is crucial if you’re running an LS, or a.m., 4L 60 in front of it, do you need to take the mount housing and it will basically bolt on to the back of the 460 four-wheel-drive version, you’ll need no adapters, but the VSS sensor can you get a Dakota Digital SGI 100 BT and it will adapt the jeep versus signal to the Chevy pulse per mile requirement, put it in your cab so that you don’t have to worry about water damage
This double transfer case build was both unexpected and awesome!!! I've seen them in use, but I've never seen it built from beginning to end like we did here. Thanks!!!🤙
I watch Dirt lifestyle with Nate alot and his build for this event is nice but its alot of just cuts paint, bumpers, mainly body work/cosmetics. I'm really liking the mechanical side of this build I think it's alot more of what UA represents. Great job I'm really enjoying your videos! Voted-12,580...lol You are winning and it is definitely deserved
Thanks for the design explanations! Learning a lot watching your videos, that’s why I ask about the shackle orientation, I just wanted to learn. My vote is for bleepinJeep!
I think your friend got fed up with you coming around using his stuff so he sold you a welder. 🤣🤣🤣 And each time I see those wheels you painted they look like they were anodised, really nice job. Really looking forward to seeing the finished product and I am sure that you are to.
This video was information that I will absolutely never need. But it was sure fun learning it. That way maybe someday I might get an opportunity to sound like I might know something.
I'm looking to do this with ranger bw1350/1354 but really glad to have this info in video form too! Build is in my head anyway so far lol, not in a hurry i have a '23 bronco lol
So does the fact that he sold you an old TIG welder mean the same as he doesn’t want you to come around anymore? 😉 Loved this episode. Definitely more of a how to than a let’s see if this works type of build. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey colt, one year ago I purchased a midnight metalworks Dana 300 rock box because of your awesome review. He has lost all contact with me within the last 6 months. I just want my transfer case man.
Thank On X for turning me on to you Colt. You and Nate are the best at explaining what you are doing and why You want to do it that way. I am not voting for anybody as I think all three teams should be able to go to show how you don’t have to have the money of Big Tire Garage to go on an ultimate adventure
Thatnks for the dana 300 info becaise i was watching you do this mod saying how great and affordable it was while remembering that i have a TJ with 3" drive shaft😂
Colt, you are doing an amazing job. I love love love this build and the more I watch, the more I want this S10 on UA! Your content is awesome. Keep it coming.
Awesome video Colt!!! Heck I didn’t even know that they made doublers for anything other then the 205/203 doublers!!! That is definitely good to know!!!! Remember to keep up all the hard work buddy!!!!
Thanks for all the detailed information about this process!!! Really enjoying this build and all the cheap but Awesome upgrades your doing!!! Great Job!
Best off-road content on the internet. I feel like this was a video version of an old pirate 4x4 thread. Don’t ever stop.

Probably one of the best technical demo I have watched excellent 👍 👌 👏 😀 😎 🙌 from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you for taking the time to explain your thought process with the shackle reversal scenario for the YJ front springs
Really love the cheap Jeep/ off-road stuff! Learning a ton and good to see ways to keep it cheap! Your knowledge of 4x4 stuff is immense! Keep it up Colt love the channel so much
Don’t forget you also get a 2wd single low option with this setup! Awesome stuff!
That was awesome.
The 4 pinion planetary already has the holes, you could make your own 6. It was a fun project for me and my son.
It looked like the carrier was the same for all 3 configurations -- makes sense.
@Andrew Martin there's a how to video. It was intimidating at first but we successfully made a 3 pinion into a pinion🤘💪
Thank you Colt for this step by step how to. You really bring great content to Bleepin Jeep!
Without a doubt learning more about the T-case than I will ever use. Glad you are doing this. Thanks for sharing.

You seem like such a chill guy, love your attitude 👍🤘
I love the 231 doubler. Your work proved it self on OnX challenge. Thank you for the off road education. I like to think of you as Einstein from the south. 👍👍👍👍👍👍
This was the best episode so far. Very interesting and a product that most of us are considering on a Bucket List 4x4

awesome. Ive wanted a 231/231 doubler for years now......and now that in building my lj I definitely need one now.
I dont even own a JEEP (own a 100 series LC) but really enjoy the explanation that you do that makes this pleb understand.
Although I don't have an Off road vehicle... I appreciate feeling as though I could follow along and do the repair myself...
maybe next year....
Your content is so inspiring to beginner builders. Thanks for all the knowledge and keep it up!
Wow colt! Thanks for the info. Never thought of the "pressure test" just blowing behind the area. I figured to run a small bead of gasket maker on inside to really make sure.
Colt, I have to smile when I watch you work because I work alone as well.
Loved the pirate 4x4 reference. Brought back memories.

Watching you move the welder off the trailer… “oh, 4 wheels and stuck? Rock it!” 😂 solid. 💯
Good old D and D machine. They were hard to get a hold of. But my doubler I bought in 2006 is still going strong in my Ford Ranger.
Hearing all the bad customer service stories kept me away for so long. Now that D&D has a new owner I might just give them a shot.
Yes on the Tig welding lesson..
Finally 🎉you guys are ahead, hail to Colt & Matt .
So rad! I am new to Jeeps and 4 wheelin' but not new to the wrenching scene by any means. I love seeing cool ways to use stock stuff and save a bundle while having a blast. Thanks Colt
Colt, as a fellow South Dakotan thanks for creating all this great content! I love seeing the Black Hills in the background of your videos!
The way you explain everything is great man. Got me on marketplace looking for something to build on the cheap.
Yes on tig welding lessons and great video!
Great content to building a doubler
Liquid Iron Industries leaf spring sliders are the answer to shackle reversal woes. I used them on my spring over, shackle reversed 79 Wagoneer.
Thank you Colt for keeping this channel alive.. the content here is wonderful! I've done a bunch of mods to my xj that I learned here.
Great information and I love that you showed the build.

I didn't even make it past the ads before I liked the video. Good morning ya'll
Awesome thanks!!
Good stuff. I love seeing this kind of second hand, blue collar project.
Love the channel, yes please on the tig video.
So much smarts. You make it look so easy. Maybe you should build them for sale. Thank you for sharing.
that amigo, was a labor of LOVE !!!!! wow....😊

cant wait to see the s10 done such a cool unique build
Learned a lot in this video! Who'da thunk you could make a double out of another T-case.
Your videos are the most informative out there. Great Job.
Yes do a video on Tig welding .
Your videos are always so informative and I really enjoy watching them. 😎
I'm looking to do this with ranger bw1350/1354 but really glad to have this info in video form too! Build is in my head anyway so far lol, not in a hurry i have a '23 bronco lol
I really like these lessons you give. It's going to be put to good use. Thanks again.
Love a good doubler! I run a 205 with strong box!
great break down on how-to 241 doubler plus the S-10 is amazing project, Thank You
So cool. I’ve never seen that before. I love all the tricks you’re using to really make a true unique rig
Colt!! Great explanation of creating a doubler. Thanks
With your limited shop space got get yourself a Miller Multimatic 220 welder. One welder that does everything, mig, tig, stick in a compact package.
So does the fact that he sold you an old TIG welder mean the same as he doesn’t want you to come around anymore? 😉
Loved this episode. Definitely more of a how to than a let’s see if this works type of build. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very interesting things you do. Nice UA-cam video. True about vandalized
so worth the viewing...
thnx, looking to see
what comes next...
That was a super cool money saver and gear getter video Colt.
Thanks 👍
This is a good one ,bud. Getting better all the time!
The full 231 will be loaded more than the solo range box, best spot for the 6 pinion is in the full 231
Voting for you guys every day!
Thank you JR!
Very similar to the d and d kit. I have heard that d and d went out of business due to his passing. Good job with this video
Very informative. Thanks for posting, Colt.
I love watchin u cause u remind me so much of one of my favorite cousins i grew up with. I hope u get to go on the ultimate adventure!
Thanks Colt! Really well explained on how the doubler works! Such an awesome mod!
Hey colt, one year ago I purchased a midnight metalworks Dana 300 rock box because of your awesome review. He has lost all contact with me within the last 6 months. I just want my transfer case man.
Nice score with that Tig welder, cant wait to see you put it to work.
Easily the best build of the three.
Thank On X for turning me on to you Colt. You and Nate are the best at explaining what you are doing and why You want to do it that way. I am not voting for anybody as I think all three teams should be able to go to show how you don’t have to have the money of Big Tire Garage to go on an ultimate adventure
Colt in my opinion that unique transfercase is really going to be a big improvement for sure
Thanks for the info truly enjoy watching your stuff and learning new things

Thatnks for the dana 300 info becaise i was watching you do this mod saying how great and affordable it was while remembering that i have a TJ with 3" drive shaft😂
Great tip on pressure testing, thank you for sharing that. Keep up the awesome videos!

Very kewl Colt.
Really cool video Colt! Awesome detail in your explanations! Can't wait to see this S-10 on the road/trail
Good info. you guys are in the lead for onx👍
10:21 Now you have to do a TIG welding vid because you have your own TIG welder now!!
I enjoyed it all, thanks much.
