Funny you're worried about 600 tons of fireworks, I lived there (Raf base) in the 60's and found out afterwards it was the UK supply base for our nuclear nuclear deterrent, used to sledge down all the funny shaped mounds in the winter snow
I very much doubt that! My father was posted there too and we lived in married quarters. Whilst I had a wonderful part of my childhood there free to roam on my bike, the nuclear bunkers, still in use at the peak of the Cold War were behind a VERY tight security fence. You would never have been able to penetrate that fence...simple as that. Nice fantasy though.
